- @Pi zero:What do you think about renaming the Main Page as Front Page?
- Well, I don't think it's to do with ArbCom, since on en.wn, ArbCom is not a legislative (or executive) body but a judicial one. But personally I think there's no reason to change it. It's been what it is for a very long time, it's got name recognition — there may be links to it most anywhere on the internet, on people's computers, in people's heads. Best to leave it alone. --Pi zero (talk) 10:58, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- I am asking because ArbCom members are the experienced ones. Redirecting would not be a problem, I think. And "Front page" is related to news. "Main Page"? It has nothing to do with "news". Just because it was inherited from Wikipedia/how MediaWiki works, why not tweak the title how it suits the project?
acagastya PING ME! 11:17, 19 July 2017 (UTC)- True, "Front page" has some specific relevance to Wikinews. On the other hand, "Main page" makes about as much sense, to me. Looking through major English-language sister projects, all of them (on my list) call their main page either "Main page" or "Project:Main page", excepting MediaWiki which calls its main page "MediaWiki". Since you don't see the name of the page when looking at it, there's something to be said for being internally consistent with our sisters. --Pi zero (talk) 12:27, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- We can say "Front page" on the front page while redesigning the page. And I don't see how it would create a problem with consistency if it is a redirect?

It is too late to question, but not too late to answer. "All Wikimedia Foundation board members, full-time staff, and paid developers are deemed eligible to vote, provided they have edited a Wikimedia wiki prior to June 1, 2017, 00:00 UTC in that capacity." Why should we let someone vote who knows nothing about the project? We are allowing anyone who has edited and WMF wiki. This could be misused.

@RockerballAustralia:What do you think about renaming the Main Page as Front Page?
- I can think of reasons for and against. Front Page does seem more newsy (see newspapers) but I'm wondering what problem we'd be at least trying to solve through such a change. --RockerballAustralia contribs 10:20, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- We don't always need a problem to change something.
acagastya PING ME! 12:24, 23 July 2017 (UTC)- <dropping in on the thread> Sometimes change is useful for its own sake, but... this feels to me like something likely to present "unforeseen" technical problems — unforeseen in their specific details, that is. In which case, one would like to know what one is buying that's worth the price of admission. --Pi zero (talk) 12:49, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- Might be interesting to note the "main page" of Debian wiki is called FrontPage. wiki.debian.org/FrontPage

- @Acagastya: a problem maybe not but a reason definitely. What would the reason for the change be?
- I think problem solving is an integral part of what ArbComm does, or would do if disputes go that far. --RockerballAustralia contribs 03:51, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

ArbCom members are the experienced ones, and to be honest, it is the only time I can expect them to answer these questions. Most of the experienced editors are not there when I want to discuss ideas.

@ShakataGaNai: If someone has requested for upgradation of user rights (reviewer, admin, b'crat, accredited reporter), should every ArbCom member vote for/against them in order to prevent power going to someone who is not worthy of it?

@Mikemoral:What do you think about renaming the Main Page as Front Page?
- Sorry for the very belated response: I wouldn't be against it. It's definitely a more news-themed name, but I'm not sure it's a necessary change. —mikemoral (talk) 08:39, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

@Gopher65: As you said on your talk page that you check Wikinews everyday, why is that you do not use the admin rights when vandals were spamming the project?
acagastya PING ME! 07:29, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- I check Wikinews about twice a week, not every day. Vandals haven't happened to be spamming while I've been on;). — Gopher65talk 00:49, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
@Gopher65:What do you think about renaming the Main Page as Front Page?
- I'm agnostic to the proposal. Either name is fine.
- However, that doesn't have anything to do with ArbCom. ArbCom is used when disputes pop up between users of the wiki in question (en.Wikinews in this case) that can't be resolved using other means. If both members or groups are acting in good faith, then it falls to ArbCom to resolve the dispute in as fair a manner as possible. That is the only purpose of ArbCom (at least on Wikinews), and neither it nor its members have any special authority beyond interpersonal dispute resolution. — Gopher65talk 00:49, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
- I know it has nothing to do with the ArbCom (since when do we have AGF?) but I would like to know what others think, and discussing this with others would be very difficult at some other point of time as there are so less editors.
