Original report proposal

An election is coming up in my country - campaign financing issues and resource imbalance is a factor when institutions, like the EU, talk about an erosion of democracy and rule of law regarding Hungary. I think I could do a tour in my hometown, and based on the number of campaign poster photographs I shoot, I could create a tally. The photos would be the source - and, I guess, I would have to upload all of them to Wikinews for verification and because Commons would not receive them (posters are copyrighted). So, the article would consist of a photo gallery (not all source photos would have to be shown, of course) with image descriptions, and a tally. Obviously, I could not walk around the entire town and it would take multiple days, but I could cover a reasonable percentage of the most poster-littered areas. Opinions? - Xbspiro (talk) 23:14, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think that would be incredible (and as someone who is not a fascist, very important). —Justin (koavf)TCM 23:51, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That would be a great idea. Greatly encouraged. JJLiu112 (talk) 02:56, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have a few questions. What are you going to use the tally for? Are you going to draw conclusions about campaign finance imbalances based entirely on the number of posters for each political party which you photograph? I am concerned this type of sampling is not statistically significant to draw conclusions for a nationwide election. Cheers, SVTCobra 23:36, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SVTCobra: I do not wish to derive conclusions. I have intended this to be a snapshot, marking the territory I have covered, and providing statistics for that (advertised thing, advertiser etc.). I have covered a portion of my town last Saturday, Monday and Tuesday (poster changes are usually made on Tuesday night, Wednesday daytime), and took about 900 photos. I have started to process them in Excel; headers: location (can be cross-checked with Google Streetview), date, poster type, owner, advertised, advertiser, photo codes. I wish to share this in CSV format on Wikinews (as notes). These are mostly poster boxes and billboards. I have shot everything, so that we could get a ratio of political campaign ads vs. all the others. I am open to suggestions. - Xbspiro (talk) 11:31, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SVTCobra, Koavf, JJLiu112: Here is the CSV as it stands now. Would you find something like this (along with the pictures) usable for reviewing? Would you request additional info/coloumns? Should I add an ID to each advertising surface and add them to the corresponding pictures?

The only other data I can immediately think of is some kind of totals or tallies. Amazing work. —Justin (koavf)TCM 02:06, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: Out of the first 104 items that I have processed:
  • not election-related: 64
  • election-related, governmental: 21 (I could not find usable photos for 4 until now)
  • election-related, indirect party ad: 2
  • election-related, direct party ad: 19
Out of the 19 direct party ads:
  • FIDESZ-KDNP: 9
  • Everybody's Hungary Movement: 5
  • Our Homeland Movement: 4
  • Solution Movement: 1

Can I write this? 64.39.81.54 (talk) 00:21, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, absolutely! You will need a second source. And for advice, read the pillars guide. SVTCobra 00:34, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thnx for the tips. I'll find another story with second source. 64.39.81.54 (talk) 02:25, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
