New messages

At the top of the page it says that I have 2 new messages "My new messages (2)", however I have no messages on the message page "There are no new messages for you". Is this a tech issue/bug? Thanks Mrchris (talk) 13:23, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You clicked on the "My new messages (2)" link? --Pi zero (talk) 13:25, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and on that page it says "There are no new messages for you". Mrchris (talk) 14:12, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Very odd. It sounds distantly familiar, like some such happened to me once-upon-a-time, but afraid I don't recall how it came out. It may have just cleared up on its own after a while. :-S  --Pi zero (talk) 14:24, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok cheers, thanks. I'll just wait and see. Mrchris (talk) 14:30, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think I saw similar. My suggestion is go comment on an article, get someone to follow-up so your messages could should go up. Then go to the messages page and click read all. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:39, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the same thing just happened to me.......and I'd simply (yesterday, or so) posted a comment on an article's comment page......seems weird that there'd be a "reminder" that I have "new messages" about something so trivial.--Bddpaux (talk) 15:06, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Have I missed something??

Just review'd/ready'd an article.....and the widget that pushes stuff out to mains is broken, I think. The article ready'd OK....but the widget acted weird, then disappeared! --Bddpaux (talk) 15:07, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There's something broken about the mechanism that's supposed to automatically take you from publishing to running Makelead. So you have to manually call up Makelead, by going to page WN:ML, and enter the article title yourself. See User talk:Bawolff#EzPR. --Pi zero (talk) 15:16, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • It was working, if you got to the MAKELEAD link that dropped down quickly enough. It is now, however, breaking somewhere after completing the review, but before offering to let you maintain the leads. As well as simply typing WN:ML into the wiki search to get there, it's also available on the main page (if you've the relevant privs/gadget/whatever. A link [ML] should appear at the bottom of lead 1. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:32, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Liquid Threads

I'm just about to file a bug on Bugzilla about the Liquid Threads issue. Thought I should probably start a thread on here too. —Tom Morris (talk) 09:48, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, here we go. bugzilla 40501Tom Morris (talk) 09:49, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • There's a "metric buttload" of faults with LQT, and little interest in actually fixing any of them. My pet hate with it is deletion. If I delete a Comments: page I shouldn't have to delete every thread, and every reply on every thread.
LQT should be shot and covered in dirt. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:46, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DALEK

For those in-the-know, dalek.wikinewsie.org served us extremely well throughout the Paralympics. I lost count of the number of uploads it managed (but the category says 349 just now).

There was a billing cock-up which saw the VPS closed down partway through this month; I've resolved that by bringing the billing fully up-to-date through to the end of October at a cost of €54 (yes, it's €26.95 per-month).

This, to me, isn't a 'deadly' amount — but is more than I'd hoped to end up paying (when you add in the wikinewsie.org hosting, email etc. it's quite a bit).

Now, I do not want people popping donations into the pages for such on wikinewsie.org; I've discovered that PayPal are grabbing an unreasonable chunk from such, and they sure-as-hell don't deserve the extra money. If I can get things resolved so their cut is eliminated, or reduced, I will. Similarly, yf you look at the WMF and chapters (eg Wikimedia UK) none of them will contribute on this (instead, they'll offer free web hosting, or the 'underwhelming' Toolserver) — It is Not. Good. Enough. for a fully independent news organisation.

I'm open to any suggestions to ethically help defray costs; we can't use the Wikinews logo, but I'd not be adverse to using the wikinewsie.org logo on a few t-shirt designs (got a great slogan?). For editors in good standing I can offer lower-bandwidth, unencrypted, proxy services through wikinewsie.org; there's wikignomes.com (want a blog, or any other easily-hosted service?) Anything you can think of, bring it up. I had hoped that by the end of this year we would have wikinewsie.org running over https, a proper wildcard cert is more pricey than I'd like. Then there's the issue of professional-looking ID cards for reporters. Assume we can't rely on the WMF, can't rely on Chapters, and may-well need to set up wikinewsie.org as an honest-to-goodness charity in its own right. Your two bits of an idea is worth sharing. --Brian McNeil / talk 14:11, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
