Singapore-area Wikinewsies?

Are there any Singapore area Wikinewsies? I'm hoping to get at least one person accredited as a reporter, one as a photographer, at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. Accreditation has just opened, at least in Canada. (There's also a special "young reporter" accreditation, so literally any Singapore Wikinewsie is eligible.) -- Zanimum (talk) 14:44, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Too bad, I'm based in Malaysia. Wish I could help. --Diagramma Della Verita (talk) 02:27, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for WP image

I'm using an iPhone right now, so could someone please help in getting this image on commons and posted on this article? Thanks! Benny the mascot (talk) 12:00, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I was about to oblige but now don't think it would be wise to do so, the image just doesn't smell right, the size and quality is not what I would expect from a self taken image nor is there exif data, which I would expect if this image was indeed self taken, or if this image was a crop from a larger image made by the uploader. There is also the fact that the uploader is a serial uploader of non free images as evidenced by his talk page.KTo288 (talk) 12:20, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid I have to second KTo288's concerns, the picture looks a bit suspicious for something in the public domain, plus the user's multiple warnings don't look good either. Perhaps something we can take under fair use, though? Tempodivalse [talk] 14:14, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki translation

Rodeo: Cristóbal Cortina and Víctor Vergara win Chile Championship is a translation of the original Spanish version. Is there a template that I can use to reflect that? Benny the mascot (talk) 00:21, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help with my first article

I have written my first article just to have it dismissed as "junk" and not to have neutral point of view.

I was trying to write a short chatty article about an otherwise complicated subject, could someone with a few published articles under their belt have a look and help me with what I am doing wrong.

The article is First Humanoid Robot in Space

Back ache (talk) 11:23, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the reviewer certainly wasn't helpful in describing the article as "junk"; the intro is ok, although perhaps you could use a slightly less "chatty" tone - we're generally not too informal in our articles, if you have a look through some of our other stories. I think the main problem with it is that it's too short - our stories should have at least three medium-sized paragraphs, whereas yours only has two. If you could add a few extra sentences of info in a new paragraph (preferably even more info for additional context), that would fix it. Hope that helps. Shorts

Would there be any particular problem with writing a "Wikinews shorts" article focused on local news for the general area where I live, so long as each short has two sources and is complete? In other words, is there a requirement that a story/short has to be notable on a broad scale, or can it be on a local scale? Stories I would include would be along the lines of this, this, and this, which I also found articles on in the local newspaper. Ks0stm (TC) 19:16, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We accept everything from local to international news, but generally we shouldn't have too much content focused on one article. If you think one or two of those are notable enough, I don't see an issue with including them amidst other shorts. However, there isn't really precedence for having a Wikinews shorts page focused on one topic or geographical area. –Juliancolton | Talk 19:24, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree; we've published UK Wikinews shorts before. Benny the mascot (talk) 20:56, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm the opinion you should write what interests you. So if this interests you, I say go for it. Bawolff 20:58, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just making sure. My article on STS-132

Hello, I submitted an article for review and just wanted to make sure it's in position to be reviewed , or there is more I need to do in order to submit ? I tried to follow the directions, sometimes the code-talk is a little tough for me. I am doing my best and will keep it up!

Thanks

Use the "Create page" dialog box (at the bottom of the Main Page, or top of the Newsroom, or bottom of the Howdy template on your talk page) to create the article, and put the content into the new page. Putting it in a section at Wikinews:Requested articles doesn't work (and the {{review}} template shouldn't be put anywhere except on an article page). BTW, you need sources for the article. --Pi zero (talk) 22:52, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article written on category page

Category:Chili Finger Incident seems to serve as both an article and a category. Anyone have any ideas on what to do with it? Benny the mascot (talk) 02:19, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Originally it was just Chili Finger Incident transcluded on there (since that article was meant as an overview article), then at some point Anonoymous101 substituted, and removed most of the categories. Its probably safe to remove the {{publish}} off category:Chili Finger Incident, but i don't see there being any problem with the article being on the page. Bawolff 08:16, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
