Local news[edit]

Hi there! I see you've been writing lots of local news so I wanted to point you to the page I have been working on, Quakers which is similarly specialised. You might want to consider utilising some of the features and potentially keeping some of the stories on the local Brampton page rather than the main page. Otherwise I think you're going to be asked to make lots of effort explaining the international context of Dr Kuldip's bbq :) You'll see on the Quaker page that we have stories that are only on that page as well as some that have been 'promoted' to the international page if they are of sufficient interest. I'm keen to see lots of local community news pages being developed so happy to help if I can! ClareWhite 16:15, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

He is inviting everyone to the BBQ, so a reader might want to jet set from Taiwan to the event. ; ) Anyway, thanks for showing me the Quakers page, Clare. I'm think of working on a Portal:Brampton, Ontario for the content, as a redirect from category:Brampton, Ontario. On another note, I'm a volunteer writer for a new weekly local paper. I essentially write one version of the article for Wikinews, one for the paper. I was thinking of maybe streamlining things by actually seeing if they'll print the Wikinews articles, with the proper credits. Have you personally heard if this has been done before with Wikinews content? -- user:zanimum

Heh, I might come along then :) I'm thinking along these lines too, my magazine is a weekly for Quakers and what I'd like to see if it being used as a tool for reporting from all over the world, which essentially our magazine could use as a source if required. In theory there are no barriers to using Wikinews reports anywhere, i think it's more likely that a newspaper might prefer rewrites, and if a story has been published, you need to rewrite it for Wikinews. The closest I've come (and it's the only example I know of) is someone submitted a story to my magazine and with their permission I used it on Wikinews directly, it was then published in my magazine later. To me it feels more ethical to have the author's permission to use work in this way but of course you should be able to do the same thing with your writing as you are the copyright holder and once you've submitted it, others on Wikinews or your editors can develop it in different ways. Anyway, exciting stuff, I hope we can work together. In the meantime I've tinkered with your barbecue story and added a Local only category which will put it onto the portal but not the main page. It's up to you of course if you use it, take it off if you like, but you'll probably already have noticed the distorting effect of having lots of stories about a specalism on the news list which is why we adopted it for the Quaker page. ClareWhite 09:40, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Lead Article[edit]

Thanks for putting up my story as the Lead Article. A first for me. :) Brianmc 13:33, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, it is an important story, very good article on the story, and the front page hadn't been updated since the 11th. Any other time you have something you'd like on the front, just go here, and go here.[1] -- user:zanimum

Use of the byline template[edit]

Use of Template:Byline is generally reserved for OR articles (where the reporter is actually on site). Please see Wikinews:Style guide for more information. --Chiacomo (talk) 22:43, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for that, Chiacomo. I just discovered the template yesterday, and assumed it was the new overall standard. -- user:zanimum

Re: Thanks![edit]

You're welcome, good luck on the job when you receive accreditation! BTW, I'm sort of a fan - how was being on Call for Help? :) --MrMiscellanious (talk) (contribs) 01:54, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It was good. Taping was running behind that day, because Leo was late arriving on set. They were both quite nice, and was quite helpful in talking me through my pre-show jitters. Leo says he's quite a fan of Wikipedia; he didn't really even try to challenge me on reliability, etc of the project. Mike Lazazzera was also a fan, and before my segment asked to make sure everything was alright at Wikipedia, because the site was down the day before, and no message was "site down" showing. I'm anxious to see the episode when it comes on... it's yet to debut in Canada, yet alone the US and Australia. They film the episodes out of order... episode 276 was filmed right before me, yet their on to 285 already. -- user:zanimum

News categories[edit]

The art-related categories you created seem more encyclopedic than news-oriented. Are you sure they are appropriate for a news site? - Amgine | talk 18:55, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There's a fair amount of news from the art world, despite the fact we don't have rigourous reporting on it yet. There's 2170 Google News results for "graphic design" [2], 8,410 for "art gallery" [3] , and 7290 for "fine art" [4]. I'm sure the numbers are exaggerated, thanks to columnists and interviews, but they still register fairly high numbers. I've added some existing articles into the cats, and I'm working on an article right now about the death of Iranian graphic art, so yes, I think its worth it. -- user:zanimum
What I meant, I think, is that "fine art" (as an example) is not a news category. "Arts" sometimes may be; more usually a fine art related news event would be classified under other categories depending on the news event: Crime and law for an art theft, Culture and entertainment for a showing, perhaps Politics and conflicts for a story about recovery of objects looted during WWII. Some papers have an "art beat" for weekend editions; it's broken down into events and reviews, performance events and reviews, and film events and reviews; while I am impressed with some of your articles in these latter categories, Wikinews has pretty consistently been opposed to reviews. - Amgine | talk 01:15, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's the capital of my country, and portals encourage people from the area to take an active role in Wikinews, since they think "they love my town!", which is always good. Don't worry, I don't plan to create more portals anytime soon. -- Zanimum 19:23, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

well done[edit]

Nicely done with the Curtis Grant interview. TRWBW 17:06, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks. It's actually just a template interview; I've emailed essentially all of the Brampton and Mississauga council candidates (somewhere around 200 total, I'd guess), and if they agree, they get a set of questions common to everybody in their particular city. Basically I just sit back and hope things work out. -- Zanimum 18:31, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Liberal leadership[edit]

As a reporter. Crimson 22:55, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a camera, and mind taking it? I feel we could benefit more from free imagery, as a debate could be covered from television coverage. -- Zanimum 15:09, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Liberal[edit]

Are you going to interview the Liberal leaders? I am in Toronto and not too political but the Liberal leadership seems like a very big deal? Blueline 12:07, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree, the Liberal leadership is a great deal for politics, much more important than who'll run each of Toronto/Brampton/Mississauga's wards. However, the reason I've been sticking to local politics for the time being is that it's easier to get participation. Liberal leadership candidates have news outlets around the country vying for their attention, municipal candidates only have a few local outlets. One of our "accredited reporters" had registered to attend the recent debate in Toronto, which I also had a desire to attend, however I haven't seen any results from them. -- Zanimum 14:20, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you list the source? Bawolff ☺☻ 18:45, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Appears to be someone using Wikinews as a webhost or something. I'm not yet familiar with the deletion procedures on Wikinews so I thought it would make sense to point it out to an experienced user (that is you) and let you either a) deal with it or b) let me know what to do. Thanks. JoshuaZ 18:19, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for alerting me to this. Whenever you see junk, just mark it with {{delete}}, so then it's marked for speedy deletion. Sadly, I'm not an admin, only an "accredited reporter", so I can't delete it permanently. But it should be gone in an hour or two. Thanks again! -- Zanimum 18:32, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Apology[edit]

Zanamium, I'd like to apologize to you for my recent absence and for not doing an article on the Liberal debate. I've had some work and computer issues lately, I'm afraid. I do have notes from the debate and would like to use them in an article on the leadership race. Crimson 00:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

is due for an update. one of the interviews might fit the bill.  — Doldrums(talk) 20:02, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's none that are especially good, IMO. I dunno. And the only ones I truely like are Brampton ones, and that could be perceived as favouring one candidate over another, technically. I dunno, which article do you think? -- Zanimum 20:04, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
i haven't really looked thro' them much, frankly (astonishing as it may seem, am not all interested in a municipal election half a world away :). if u think one of the articles reads better than others, i think u can go ahead and use it in a lead without worrying about "favouring". if i remember, each interview also listed other candidates and the template-thing links to the other interviews, that shld be good enough. i think original interviews shld be highlighted by putting (atleast some of) them on the lead.  — Doldrums(talk) 20:09, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Really? You're not? ;-) I was more wondering if one ward had a prettier name that the rest, or if you had a favourite number. To be absolutely honest, I've not read most of the interviews myself, just skimmed them for obvious signs of libel, which luckily there was none. -- Zanimum 20:16, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oscars/Event attendance[edit]

Can you give me a shout on my talk page when you have time to pull something together about what went wrong with the Oscars? This should go up on the water cooler and we may have to take points to the foundation to make sure people can reasonably represent themselves. I would be very annoyed to discover that we effectively had a "ticket" to Oscars coverage and lost it because of internal bureaucracy issues, and I'm sure Jimbo would feel the same. If that's what happened we need to make sure it can't happen again. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:23, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merry Christmas![edit]

File:Santa arrest.JPG
HO HO HO! These people got no presents from me this year.
FellowWikiNews is whishing thou a Merry very pegan Christmas , Seasons Greetings, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah, or whatever thou calls it, and
realised they had purposefully forgotten about thou. This user is completely thoughtless, doesn't care about Season's Greetings,
and therefore DEMANDS you have yourself a Merry Christmas... NOW!

Failure to comply will result in going to jail with Santa. (Note: Santa is Satan spelt backwards)!

Christmas Story (Children Friendly):

So kids, is Santa Democrat or Republican??!

Often depicted as an obese man wearing a tasteless red, ermine trimmed suit, Santa Claus is a self-employed Caucasian male who's been married to the same woman for several centuries. It appears likely that he is a churchgoer, insofar as he is a Catholic saint and a former bishop. It has to be assumed here that Claus was released from his vows, or else he would not have been married.

Frequent arguments have erupted over the political affiliation of Claus. Ten years ago, Dick Cheney inadvertently dealt a savage blow to the morale of the Republican Party when he misidentified the political affiliation of Santa Claus in his best-selling book, Parliament of Whores. "Santa Claus," he said, "is a Democrat." However it is perfectly obvious from his demographic profile alone that Santa is in fact a Republican.

This assessment is often rebutted by Democrats with Anne-McCaffery counter-analysis: Santa Claus has no children. High-achieving professionals without children trend Democratic. While the Clausian canon does not specifically address the issue of Santa's children, numerous extra-canonical sources suggest that Claus did, in fact, reproduce. Numerous Christmas TV movie specials alone support this point.

Santa is renowned for an aggressive adherence to a binary naughty/nice list, which suggests an impatience for nuanced moral positions that betrays his Republican preferences. Santa's mere willingness to define individuals along a naughty/nice axis demonstrates his indifference to the philosophical stance of, say, The New York Times. And note that no canonical or extra-canonical Clausian text indicates that Santa ever attended college or, God forbid, graduate school.

THE END!!!

FellowWikiNews approves of this story.

Hi, I just noticed you posting that you are planning on trying to get an interview with Drake Bell. Thanks for the question. Just to clarify, the question would be:
Have producers ever considered using your music on the series?

photos (animation) thingy[edit]

Good job with the photographer thingy for Annie awards. Bawolff 22:46, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Any sort of pre-planned event in a major metro area, I'm willing to try and get professional photographers to come out to it. I didn't expect many people would want to take pictures of people that are only famous within such a narrow community, but it's amazing how much interest that I got, just through a single Craigslist posting. -- Zanimum 16:04, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Zanimum — I really want to congratulate you on the story. It's a big thing to move this community past the virtual and into the physical world. Thanks for organizing it! -- IlyaHaykinson 08:32, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It needs a fractionally larger font, <small> doesn't get bolded, but it looks good on articles even as it is. When a few more people have played with it I'll do a QuoteRight version as well. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:08, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CES[edit]

In all seriousness, eh? Well, I'd be the youngest Wikinews accredited reporter here, so if they would let me in, I might be able to arrange travel with my uncle. I'll have to check around, though. --Thunderhead - (talk) 18:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Again, no promises that I'll be able to go. --Thunderhead - (talk) 18:49, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great, I'll start checking the application requirements. You seem knowledgeable, personable, and a good writer, so I can't see anything against it. They want to market their show and their exhibitors products, and so long as who we send can meet that requirement, I can't see anything wrong with that. I can leave the specifics out until it's approved. -- Zanimum 15:12, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not great. I've just checked around, and it's a definite negative, unfortunantly.  Thunderhead  ►  17:32, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The source is nbc. Even though there is no alternative, I don't think we're allowed to use it as it comes from a competing news source. Bawolff 01:52, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I could source it to the raw, unedited clip on YouTube. It was originally reported by a Fox affiliate, and most papers haven't credited it to anybody. It was also used as police evidence in the case. -- Zanimum 18:39, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Project Video Wikinews[edit]

Hey Zanimum,

Welcome to Project Video Wikinews!

Just so other members know who to contact for certain tasks, are there any specific parts of the project you are interested in? Writing a script? Editing? Presenting?

By the looks of things you are interested in finding a story/ reasearching or, writing the script. If you are, could you start to have a look for a story which could readily be investegated and discussed in much detail. The program will hopefully present stories in as much depth as a 60 minutes story. Don't know what 60 minutes is (the Australian version), it looks into stories at MUCH depth. If you want to see one 60 minutes story, go to http://youtube.com/watch?v=8DWZcf_GLWY

Please look for a story which is currently a major INTERNATIONAL issue or, is a small, local story which is heart-touching.

Thanks --Symode09 16:51, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While this is an admirable goal of quality, perhaps it's a little too much? Most stories that I could see people reporting on are somewhere inbetween. A protest, a local business issue, interviews, a furry convention even. But it's hard to land big stories unless you just so happen to be at their heart. The only international story that hit my hometown was the arrest of alleged terrorists. Otherwise, nothing really world-stage worth has happened in my town of 400,000. -- Zanimum 21:00, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can uderstand that but, we don't have to have a mig well known story - all we need is a powerful one (preferably one that hits people's emotions)

--Symode09 01:03, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great job! Could you please put OR notes on the talk page? Thanks! FellowWikiNewsie 15:52, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the story is by a university student, not me. Full notes on talk page of article. -- Zanimum 18:11, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Normally I would never write an article on wikipedia.[edit]

I only started using Wikipedia because of the first Sivaji: The Boss stills, and I was searching the net and came over wikipedia. Then I worked hard to make it a large article. Rajinikanth is the person I respect the most. If you look at w:Sivaji: The Boss and w:Rajinikanth you will see that I created most of his film articles and I have done lots of work on his current film article. I am sorry to say I am not a film buff, although I know of many Tamil films I do not look into them carefully. Even for high budget films I just know they are made when they come out in the cinema. I can't read Tamil but I buy the magazines every week (about 5 different magazines) to see any new stills about the film and I get my dad to read to me what they say about Rajinikanth. If I had known about wikinews in 2005 december I would have written over 500+ Sivaji: The Boss articles by now. You may not know the sheer level that this film has. This film cost over 5 times than a normal high budget film. Its just amazing. I am eargerly awaiting its release, I sadly cannot see it in India since I have exams. But I will see it on the first day and the first show in the UK. I could say so much more but I need to go to sleep. If you want I can write articles about other films, but I am trying to limit my articles to 1 per day. Even for Sivaji: The Boss I could have written so much from what came out in the news today. ~~ Vagish [wp] [wn] 20:45, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia election coverage[edit]

Hi. Could you add a link to Ontario Votes 2007: Interview with Communist Party candidate Shona Bracken, Toronto Danforth on the appropriate Wikipedia page(s)? Thanks. Crimson 18:35, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not a supporter. I was approached about doing an interview so I just used all the questions you've been using and added two of my own. Crimson 19:10, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fantastic! So, did you contact multiple candidates, or just her? I was tempted to send out a second email to everyone, to see if that would wake people into replying, but it wasn't much help. Glad to see your reminder stimulated at least one candidate. -- Zanimum 19:14, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What happened was Johan Boyden from the CPC contacted me earlier this week and asked me about how to get interviewed for Wikinews. I told him I could do that and I used your questions as a template (I actually didn't realize you'd done all the interviews to date or I would have consulted you) added two questions aimed directly at Communist candidates, and asked him to have the candidates send me the responses so I could code them. So far I've gotten two. I hadn't realized you'd already tried to contact them - don't know if your messages go to them or not. Anyway, hope I haven't stepped on any toes. Crimson 19:21, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, no, no. Please, any time you want to "step on toes", step away. The more interviews the better, I don't care who gets it done.
I contacted all the candidates (or, I think there were five Greens that weren't nominated by the time I sent out to them, but almost all the candidates, from every party). You'd think there would have been more, even if they just had an assistant answer as them. Basically, what's linked to from that template is the only people who replied. There were a few others that replied, but they just sent generic, unstructured biographies that I couldn't salvage into the default format.
I think it would have helped if I had sent to each fringe party individually. I sent to the LIB/PC/NDP/GRN candidates individually, but FCP/FREE/COMM/LIB/CFR/IND all as one. -- Zanimum 19:53, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Federal election coverage[edit]

Bonjour Zanimum,

I am the GPC candidate for Ottawa-Vanier. Feel free to contact me once the writ is droped if you are doing candidate interviews. julien.lamarche@gmail.com Jlam 16:08, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour Julien! This is great, to see people contacting me for interviews, as opposed to me bugging for an interview. Did you learn about Wikinews' coverage through one of the provincial Greens?
Do you off hand know who at the GPC could provide me with a full list of candidate emails, once more are established? I received a media spreadsheet from the GPO, and it made life a heck of a lot easier, rather than manually gathering email addresses from websites and the Elections Ontario info. -- Zanimum 17:55, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are there any Danish Wikinewsies, who could help me arrange election interviews of candidates in this election? -- Zanimum 18:56, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am fluent in the Danish language but have no special talents at gaining access to candidates. If you want to contact them in their native tongue, I'd be happy to translate. Likewise, if you receive material in Danish I can translate it to English. I suppose I could be more efficient in navigating Dansih websites to find contact info. Drop me a note on my talk page if I can be of assistance. --SVTCobra 22:18, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fantastic, glad to hear you're interested!
Darn, there's no da.wikinews.org? I presumed that I'd send candidates the same 4-8 questions in English and Danish, and if they replied to only the English, I'd post on en.wn, only to the Danish, I'd post to da.wn, and if they replied to both, I'd publish to both; no translation. But if there's no Danish Wikinews, that kills that, translating dozens of interviews into English is not worth it, even if we found multiple other volunteers.
Perhaps only the party leaders then?
Or are there any ridings/wards/districts/regions/whatever where there's a high English population, to make it worth the while of candidates in those ridings to reply in a non-official language? -- Zanimum 18:54, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not aware of any voting districts where English speakers are a worthwhile audience for candidates. Even if there is one or two in Copenhagen, they are all likely guest-workers who have retained their original citizenship and thus can't vote anyway.
All of the Scandinavian Wikinews sites are dormant. An attempt to create a joint Scandinavian one Wikinytt:Skandinavia hasn't yielded much, either.
Further, there are hundreds of candidates for the 179 member Folketing. There are 14 parties represented in the current makeup, plus some more that run without getting any seats. That said, we could attempt to contact some of the party leaders or the parties themselves. Let me know if you want to pursue this. --SVTCobra 23:19, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Some party e-mail addresses:
Everyone else polled less than 5%. --SVTCobra 23:40, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Eek, sorry! Okay, presumably what we'll do is interview them in Danish, and publish the interviews on the English Wikinews in tables, where one column is the Danish questions and answers, another column is in English. That way, it's on an active Wikinews, where they're likely to be found by search engines, and a bit more widely read.
Oh goodness, as I write, I see that it's next week that the election happens. This is the second election (the first being the province of Saskatchewan, Canada) that I've doddled on too long. If you can come up with some general, quick to answer questions in Danish, I'll come up with some introductory text in English, for you to translate and send the two parts off. -- Zanimum 15:15, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think we missed the boat, it is already 4:20 p.m. in Denmark on a Friday afternoon. The election is on Tuesday. But if you want to try I can translate when I get home from work in about 7 hours. --SVTCobra 15:20, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ouch, yeah. (I was reading a British article that said "next week", assumed it was Friday or so.) Well, next election I guess. Thanks for your willingness, though. -- Zanimum 15:39, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

per WN:IUP: "the fair use defense would not apply to images from other news web sites or blogs." --SVTCobra 17:51, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You need to add sources for a lot of the content in this article. It is just not in the ones listed now. Also, the images need fair-use rationale and source information. Last, why the Youtube video? Cheers, --SVTCobra 20:30, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Er, why did you protect this? It seems to be interfering with users' attempts to add content and I dont see any compelling reason to protect it. JoshuaZ 17:36, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had to revert your edit to Template:Featured picture because the picture was taking up the whole main page. I tried to make it 200px but the picture was still huge. There must be something wrong with the picture. FellowWiki Newsie 19:44, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Woops, I reverted after you fixed it. I reverted myself. Now the picture looks better. Not sure why this problem was happening. FellowWiki Newsie 19:46, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was copying all of the info from the article's picture, but I forgot to remove the ending }} of the "image credit" template. The templates didn't like that I had left the }} in, and that's why it didn't render. -- Zanimum 19:50, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Is that really the highest resolution that Jeb Wilson provided? Even at 200px there are jagged edges. --SVTCobra 19:53, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That in particular was a screenshot from his site. I'm downloading the zip file now, we shall see if he's provided better. -- Zanimum 19:56, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't quoting paragraph's from blogs and press releases a copyvio. ( I am contacting you as you were one of the users who edited the article). Please respond so I know whether to include it in the Wikinews Print Edition (as I don't want copyvios in the print edition). I am not saying you added the apparent copyvio but I need an answer soon so I am contacting most users who edited that page. User:Anonymous101 09:29, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, in this case copying wholesale isn't. These blogs and press releases were created with the express purpose of getting the candidate's message out to the widest amount of people possible. Thus, if they're cited as being from whatever site, and they are shown as being a quote, this is completely fair use.
Occasionally, my local major newspaper has reprinted entire speeches and testimonies, taking up a few thousand words each.
I'm guessing it's too late for the print edition now, but I'm not sure how many would be interested in reading the article anyway. -- Zanimum 17:08, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. I will make sure it is in the Print edition by overwriting todays edition as I think some people may have an interest in it --User:Anonymous101 18:28, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am interested in your justification of this edit, as a member of the Wikimedia Foundation Communications Committee? - Amgine | sw 17:40, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, there was absolutely no suggestion from WMF or WMFCC that it should be removed. However, what do 99% of the world care about? Some "leak", or the future leader of the free world?
To be honest, your article is actually a series of loosely related stories, that should have been split up as two or three. And frankly, the writing was sloppy in areas. Was the quality of the US election stuff much better? No, it was pretty skimpy. But at least it was of interest to more people. -- Zanimum 15:36, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I note the second lead article at the time had an even smaller sig. I was just wondering if your justification would outweigh your WN:COI. I'm still not sure it would, especially considering the replacement. - Amgine | sw 03:46, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lordi[edit]

I'd love to get an interview with Lordi! There would be no point in attempting to do it on my own; as a student I could never get BMG (or anyone) to take me seriously, so thanks for offering your clout with press credentials to set it up. Fingers crossed from ere, I guess... BMG Finland wuld be the best, IMO, but if you want to check it out, go through www.Lordi.fi, after skipping the intro (or not, if you're interested) and the sound has loaded (it jams up if you try and hit it before, or at least it used to) hit contacts (second gravestone from right, also at the bottom), you get two pages, most of which aren't any use at all but worth glancing over anyway. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 20:12, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great, good to hear you're interested. Yes, they have a direct email contact on their official website, Kayja Toivanen, on the Media page.

Main page leads[edit]

could you please stop adding the table, it doesn't solve the problem. AzaToth - (talk) 20:33, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it completely solves the problem. I don't see what the devil is wrong with this, compared to the horrible coding otherwise. -- Zanimum - (talk) 20:34, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Have you tried to look at it at resolution 1024x768 and below? AzaToth - (talk) 20:35, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and while it's lop-sided at 1024, it's a lot typographically better than having the things spill over like they are. And really, most readers of Wikinews are likely to have at least 1024. So few people have 680, in my experience as a web designer, that it's not worth bothering with. -- Zanimum - (talk) 20:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Answer[edit]

I saw your interest in my campaign on the Comments page for Ralph Nader's presidential announcement. I will not file with the FEC because I am a write-in candidate and I have no desire to be bound to their regulations. If you have any more questions ask them on my talk page and we could conduct an interview there. Thank you for your time.--Uga Man - (talk) 20:38, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So you're no more of a candidate than George Clooney or Flavor Flav is? -- Zanimum - (talk) 20:40, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No. I am still actively campaigning.--Uga Man - (talk) 20:46, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ralph Nader ran as a write-in candidate in 1992 receiving over 6,000 votes in the general election and won the 1992 Massachusetts Democratic Primary. He also did not file with the FEC like me. I'd ask that you please seriously consider giving me an interview. I promise it will be very well done and interesting. I have fresh, new ideas for the country.--Uga Man - (talk) 22:01, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The synopsis of this message is, "Are you interested in Wikimania 2008"? The above link is a page I've started on this and I'm looking to get people to sign up if they're interested in going along as accredited reporters and representatives of Wikinews.

What you'd be required to do is some sort of participation in a panel, possibly a short talk, and definitely a workshop to get other Wikimedians involved in working on Wikinews.

However, the key reason I'm sticking this on your talk as opposed to that of every single accredited reporter is down to trying to get us sponsored to get there. I've contacted the BBC and CBC to see if I can get them interested in providing scholarships for people to go. I'd expect in return you'd be required to do a couple of reports for them and provide pictures they could use from the event. Obviously with someone like CBC they're going to give preference to sponsoring Canadians to attend.

If this interests you, stick your name on the WN:WM2008 page and we can take it from there. --Brian McNeil / talk 17:59, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FlaggedRevs[edit]

If you have not already seen this, please look, comment, and vote both here and on bugzilla. Further assistance such as contact information for Google would be a very useful detail to share and help in petitioning for a listing in their news index. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:02, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What kind of review did you do of this article? We are trying to be more selective and do real fact-checking. Also, why did you publish as-of two days ago ... you know we don't do that. --SVTCobra 00:43, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Peer reviews[edit]

Since the implementation of FlaggedRevs we have also begun a workflow that includes peer reviews (see {{peer reviewed}}). Therefore we do not publish our own writing anymore. Cheers, --SVTCobra 15:20, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Google news[edit]

Yes, I'd already had that pointed out to me... btw: I've been using this template for the Canadian elections artices, so that they all used the same categories. - Amgine | t 16:55, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As long as I'm over here, I was wondering why your template uses Category:2008 Canadian federal elections rather than Category:Canadian Federal Elections 2008? I used the latter construction because it will auto-sort by Canadian, rather than 2008, making it easier to find by topic. We should collaborate and use only one category.
Category:2005 Egypt Elections, Category:2005 Iran Elections, Category:2007 French presidential election, Category:2008 United States federal elections, Category:2008 United States presidential election versus Category:German federal elections, 2005 and Category:Liberal Party of Canada leadership, 2006. -- Zanimum (talk) 17:01, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That previous elections categories are malformed does not justify that we should likewise use malformed categories. It's plainly easier to see a list of categories:
Canadian federal elections 2000
Canadian federal elections 2004
Canadian federal elections 2006
Egyptian parliamentary elections 1995
Egyptian parliamentary elections 2000
Egyptian parliamentary elections 2005
than:
1995 Egyptian parliamentary elections
2000 Canadian federal elections
2000 Egyptian parliamentary elections
2004 Canadian federal elections
2005 Egyptian parliamentary elections
2006 Canadian federal elections
However, if you'd prefer to continue with that format, and you're the only other person I see writing Canadian elections articles, I'm more interested in harmony than logic so I'll change the template. - Amgine | t 17:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll go with your category if it makes you happy. However, I was simply going with the first category created. -- Zanimum (talk) 17:39, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I had already updated the template with your category. Feel free to change the templates if you think the other might be a better naming convention. - Amgine | t 05:45, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interview reviews[edit]

I started reviewing the interview articles, but they're all the same - none of them have any journalism in them, and all require they go back to development. These aren't articles, they're e-mail responses to spam questions.

To be an article they need a backgrounder on the candidate and the riding. - Amgine | t 16:31, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember to use {{Peer review}}[edit]

When you are publishing articles, please make sure to put a {{Peer review}} on the collaboration page. I noticed that it was forgotten on Movie studios sue, hoping to bar a DVD copying program from market. Thanks. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 16:18, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the visit on my page. I posted a very long query, hence, if you please, you can shorten it. Wikinews talk:Story preparation/EB 2.0 Pardon if I grabbed the opportunity to dare to ask if I can write about myself to do justice to my case, since I cannot blame editors in Wiki due to bad journalism of wacky international writers dealing with dwarfs. A penny for your thoughts[edit]

Okay, not really, but I am requesting your participation in the following Water Cooler Discussion: OR and Broadcast report. The discussion involves the need for specific policy concerning how Original Reporting relates to information recieved from a broadcast report of an event. This can include both news-style reports and non-news reports, such as a sporting event. Thanks and again, please share your thoughts on this so we can get as many people involved as possible, especially since this relates to an important topic such as OR. —Calebrw (talk) 05:17, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Under the Privilege expiry policy (enacted October 13, 2012) the rights held by your user account have been reduced due to inactivity, or lack of privilege use. You can view your user rights log here.
Point 4 of the Privilege expiry policy provides for fast-tracking reacquisition of privileges. We all understand that real-life commitments can severely curtail the level of commitment you can give to Wikinews; the privilege reduction is in no way intended as a reflection on your past work, or to imply you are unwelcome. Wikinews Writing contest 2013 is here. :) Please sign up to participate?[edit]

We've created the Wikinews:Writing contest 2013, which will start on April 1 and end on June 1. It is modeled on the successful 2010 contest. It would be a really great time for you, as a Wikinews accredited reporter, to do some original reporting and conduct interviews. People should be around to interview to prevent a backlog, and several reviewers have access to scoop to make it easier to review any original reporting you do. If you are interested in signing up, please do so on Wikinews:Writing contest 2013/entrants. There is at least one prize on offer for the winner along with the opportunity to earn some barn stars as a way of thanking you for your participation. :D --LauraHale (talk) 10:19, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Per the proposed inactive policy, yopur account has been nominated to have its privileges reduced. Brian McNeil (talkcontribs) 15:26, 11 October 2013‎

We don't need the proposed inactive policy; we have the enacted privilege expiry policy. --Pi zero (talk) 17:11, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Per this version of WN:RfP, you may review the public announcement of this change. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:02, 29 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just a comment (since I probably won't be up to another review this evening): I note the lede doesn't say when the focal event happened. That is, when was this announced? (It's key information in determining freshness.) --Pi zero (talk) 21:32, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, updated, thanks! -- Zanimum (talk) 22:14, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Now that you've added the date, I realize... the article will reach three four calendar days since the event in less than two hours from now. Which is, well, awkward. I'm honestly not up to a review right now (and two hours is probably less than that one would take), and as we remark at WN:Newsworthiness, fourth-day publications are very rare. I'm thinking very carefully about it, though, because I'd hate to not-ready your first article in (how long? seems like it's been a while) over that. Seems like it wouldn't feel right; and if it really doesn't feel right, maybe there's a reasonable justification for bending some rules (as long as one doesn't end up on a slippery slope). Since we do make much of not being a bureaucracy. --Pi zero (talk) 22:31, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If possible, that would be appreciated. I approved for a media pass for the event, and I can tell from the limited correspondence so far that the organizers are on the cusp of whether or not they're open to my application. I'm basically hoping that this article would tip the balance, so that I can do OR from panels, etc.
Worst case scenario, would an original quote from the graphic novel illustrator qualify the rest of the article as OR? There's a chance I could get something there.
(I wasn't aware until after writing about the current quantification of timeliness, writing on a mobile phone.) -- Zanimum (talk) 01:54, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It may not be a problem; we'll see. The possibility of later OR building on it, seems fair to consider in this case, I think (I'd suspected as much). If there's some other snag that holds things up (perish the thought), things could then look different. --Pi zero (talk) 02:45, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I did publish it. See review comments, edits during review. --Pi zero (talk) 15:37, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! One of the notes on the article, about dateline, it didn't come up when I created the article on a phone. Perhaps there needs to be a mobile-only alert for new articles, to say that it's missing? (That said, I'm sure very few people actually use mobile to create.) -- Zanimum (talk) 17:23, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have access to a mobile device. It's also been remarked that {{translated quote}} and {{translation note}} don't work right on mobile; I'm not sure yet how to start on that problem. --Pi zero (talk) 17:47, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'd really hoped to get this reviewed more promptly. Alas, today hasn't been a successful day for me, review-wise. (A few years ago I could make up for a situation like this by reviewing late into the night, but lately I find I lose acuity in the evenings.) --Pi zero (talk) 02:21, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Things not going well, with this. The huge glut of student articles that arrived a bit over 24 hours ago doesn't help, of course, but I sense things would be going askew without that. At this point I'm trying to work out what lessons can be learnt for future articles, regardless of the outcome for this article. It seems the article was written with (...I'm struggling to articulate this...) a strongly time-embedded sense to it, as if it were describing an instant in time rather than a specific event in time, which made it especially vulnerable to the vagaries of review timing. --Pi zero (talk) 12:53, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sluggish review[edit]

I've got these principles I try to follow, because I feel I have to protect the volunteer nature of review: I try not to promise to review something, nor apologize as such for not reviewing something. But, without technically doing either of those things, I really do feel bad I haven't gotten to your article yet, and hope to review it next. --Pi zero (talk) 13:26, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, much appreciated! (I'm just concerned that the freshness criteria won't rear itself.) -- Zanimum (talk) 19:29, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm worried about freshness too. I meant to get on to this review hours ago. --Pi zero (talk) 19:39, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

One of the things on which we've been more strict in the modern era of review is documentation of original reporting. The core principle is that we want something that can be consulted during review to determine whether errors have crept in (which can happen to anyone). I see, as I start into this, you've listed the print program as a source; but I have no way of checking that; I don't see anything sent to scoop about this. Of the things I'm looking at here, how much of a problem is that likely to be? I mean, how much article content becomes uncheckable without the print program? --Pi zero (talk) 20:02, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi zero: Theoretically, everything in print should be repeated on fanexpocanada.com... Trying to think back, a lot of that was the other charitable booths at the convention, beyond the two photographed. Note, someone random added the DeLorean reference. I found a tweet showing its there, but in the autograph area not the charitable booths, but I didn't find the charitable aspect. Feel free to expunge that sentence. -- Zanimum (talk) 22:28, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the orgs page, doesn't mention Comic Corps, they were there as charitable, but they're new, so I guess they haven't been promoted to full status? http://fanexpocanada.com/organizations/ -- Zanimum (talk) 22:31, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Published. Not nearly as easy a review as we were hoping for. Review comments, detailed history of edits during review. Soft news? Well, I suppose, but it's OR which puts it in a whole different league, and... how to put this. It looks like the event was a gas. I can't help think, with all the awful things happening in the world, it's totally awesome some people can get together and have fun. --Pi zero (talk) 23:11, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Can you help me edit this article? I appreciate it. --George Ho (talk) 03:36, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just fyi. While working through student articles I've had an eye on yours. So far I've been doing things mostly chronologically in order of submission, which means yours is now second in line. --Pi zero (talk) 16:55, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! -- Zanimum (talk) 21:52, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
On what three(?) days did the event take place? The first paragraph should state this. --Pi zero (talk) 18:00, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Whoops, fixed. @Pi zero: -- Zanimum (talk) 22:59, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.

It really frustrates me that nowadays I'm rarely able to get any review done in the evenings; I just don't have the mental acuity for it. When Obama ran for his second term I was still able to do reviews in the evening, and sometimes stay up all night to review William Saturn's big monthly On the campaign trail articles. --Pi zero (talk) 23:48, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! (Yes, those monthly articles were mammoths, they'd have been a slog to get through that much all at once.) -- Zanimum (talk) 01:16, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Argh. I knew you were writing another article at the time, and in the press of dealing with all the student articles it just slipped my mind; I'd have taken it out of order (at least a bit out of order).

I'm uncomfortable about the freshness status of this. We treat photo essays the same as synthesis for purposes of freshness (I honestly forget where that's documented, though I think it's around somewhere). The focal event is practically a week old, now. :-S --Pi zero (talk) 00:23, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is the text of the article dependent on the images? As was the case with the Comicon article. (This seems to be what I need to understand here, and I guess I'm probably not up to figuring it for myself this evening.) --Pi zero (talk) 01:11, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, the text is a bit of an afterthought, frankly, just to make it a bit more than "people were wearing costumes". The event had accredited me, I was going to do formal interviews with people at the event, but near the time of the event, went incommunicado, so I basically just popped by to stretch my legs. @Pi zero: -- Zanimum (talk) 01:49, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So, it's a photoessay. I guess we've missed the deadline on this. Drat. --Pi zero (talk) 03:28, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still unsure about this. I've written review comments, discussing difficulties with it, which see; but I left the question open of whether it's truly lost freshness, instead not-ready'ing it on other concerns. --Pi zero (talk) 14:46, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've userspaced it. I feel bad about this, it's just the sort of thing I meant to not let happen despite the intensity of the student articles. --Pi zero (talk) 15:49, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Things have not gone well. On the reviewer side, we didn't get to this promptly; and on the writing side, there's a serious verification shortage. Review comments. :-S  --Pi zero (talk) 21:52, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zanimum, thank you for your article! For your information, I have translated it into Dutch language, see over here. It's a colourful contribution to our main page as well (four blocks down at the left, in the category 'photo reports'). So your contribution was very welcome to our edition of Wikinews too! Regards from Holland, Ymnes (talk) 16:06, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Ymnes: Oh my goodness, I'm genuinely flattered that you did this! I've been on Wikipedia since 2002, and most of the other projects since they were created, and I don't know if I've never had something as neat happen. You're welcome! It's a very welcome subject within a world where news isn't always so positive. So I gladly adopted your article :-) ! Ymnes (talk) 19:57, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I saw you made two new articles with a lot of photographs. They are very handsome for our section 'foto reports' so I gratefully made Dutch versions of them again :-) I changed the titles a bit to adapt the articles to a foreign audience (Netherlands, Belgium). See here and here. Thanks again for your contribution overhere! Regards, Ymnes (talk) 18:36, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Gwenom?[edit]

Am I correctly interpreting Gwenom as Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy)? --Pi zero (talk) 22:09, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi zero: Apparently, at some point this month, there's going to be a storyline with an evil Gwen Stacy symbiote, or something along that line. From my Googling, it's been delayed since spring, long enough for cosplayers to create suits based on the yet-to-appear character. -- Zanimum (talk) 12:37, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ohh. That would explain... something. So there wouldn't be a wp target, yet. Thanks. --Pi zero (talk) 12:41, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Email[edit]

Hi. I have sent you an email.
•–• 08:59, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! This story about Furnal Equinox 2018 looks interesting. :-) Is there any chance you could look at its talk page? It has some questions that I doubt I would be able to find myself. Most importantly an introductory paragraph. Having some captions to the images would also be nice even if you do not know the nicknames of all attendees. --Gryllida (talk) 00:43, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

<drops in> Indeed. I don't (yet?) see an OR tag on that article. We've been distinguishing between original reporting proper, and photo essays. Photo essays contain original content, but are not considered to extend freshness past the usual for synthesis; whereas even small elements of (textual) original reporting can sometimes extend freshness by a day or two, and more substantial OR can extend freshness by days or even weeks. --Pi zero (talk) 11:48, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gryllida: @Pi zero: I believe I mentioned this on the talk page (not sure, as I'm writing by thumb on my phone) I've got a small interview (and I use that term loosely, it's more "just say something about the convention") recorded. Trying to remember, do I send that to the Wikinewsie email, or someone specifically? -- Zanimum (talk) 12:51, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
scoop@wikinewsie.org Gryllida (talk) 23:46, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Toronto Comicon[edit]

I'm quite distressed we didn't get to these much sooner. The Furnal Equinox article had a bit of OR on it to bolster freshness (which I chose to consider sufficient); but as I recall we've generally followed the principle that photo essays don't get extended freshness from their OR element. Have you any thoughts, on the status this article? --Pi zero (talk) 14:55, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Zanimum: If I were to get a quote from a cosplayer, would that freshen it?
I presume there's no way to publish it with an earlier date, as if it was live for a while, simply not put it on the front page? -- Zanimum (talk) 19:27, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A nice quote, if provided quite soon, I think I would allow to freshen what is clearly a great deal of original photographic material. Though I realize we oughtn't make a habit of this.

(No, we don't back-date things. That would be propagating an inaccuracy. If we're going to do something that's a grey area with respect to our policies, we certainly want to be forthright about it.) --Pi zero (talk) 19:53, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Zanimum: I've solicited quotes from pros Cosplay Sisters and Holly Wolf, as well as cosplayer Trillian Zee. -- Zanimum (talk) 21:31, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi zero: (just realizing that I pinged myself last message!)
There are now quotes from one of the cosplayers in the lead image, Dayna, about the process of assembling a group of cosplayers to all dress as part of a unit, and from the cosplayer dressed as a ring-tailed cat, iluvcookiess, about why she chooses to sweat it out in a "fursuit".
The above-mentioned have not replied yet. -- Zanimum (talk) 00:03, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note, I did pull the article off the review queue, so do remember to resubmit when ready. --Pi zero (talk) 00:04, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for pestering, but any chance you might be able to approve this article, @Pi zero:, now that I've got new quotes from five individuals? -- Zanimum (talk) 20:49, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

On one hand, I'm acutely aware; on the other hand, I don't want to discourage you from politely reminding me. Thanks. --Pi zero (talk) 22:05, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Toronto Pride[edit]

I hope you are planning to cover the event -- I would love to see a beautiful photo essay. Event starts from the day after.

I had hoped to get to this sooner. I suspect — but have not yet confirmed, that's what in-depth review is for after all and I hope to dive into one momentarily — there are some things I'll need to ask for, which I hope will not be difficult for you to provide. But, we'll see what we see. --Pi zero (talk) 21:34, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, something is needed (see the latest review comments). Would have been convenient had I noticed it earlier, but, not a tragedy I think. --Pi zero (talk) 21:45, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zanimum,

Thanks for uploading the photos; it'd be nice to expand the story. Please check the talk page.

Cheers, --Gryllida (chat) 02:43, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A bit more is needed; shouldn't be difficult. Review comments. --Pi zero (talk) 15:40, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Zanimum.
Thank you so much for the rewrite.
"The end-of-summer event is one of three held in Toronto by Informa, a list that also includes the springtime Tornto Comic Con." is not clear to me; is 'Informa' a company or a list?
Do you know who are the last six characters in the photo essay? I don't appear to recognize them.
Regards, --Gryllida (chat) 02:18, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fur Suit??[edit]

Hiya Nick....I'm a bit confused on your article pending review: Did this even happen just this past weekend, or two weekends ago?? --Bddpaux (talk) 18:22, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Bddpaux: @Gryllida: Hi! It was indeed March 15 to 17. While I wrote "last weekend" on Sunday, I was presuming that the article date stamp would be changed to a later date, once the content was published. I've reworded the paragraph. -- Zanimum (talk) 19:42, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Review[edit]

I really do regret having not gotten to your articles sooner. Have them in my sights. --Pi zero (talk) 18:43, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi zero: Thanks! -- Zanimum (talk) 19:56, 23 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Occasionally I saw you on the Chinese Wikinews release Toronto Comicon 2019 welcomes fans with celebrities, creativity, cosplay, I feel great, and I am an anime fan, I am helping you to correct some translations, but I can't always appear on Wikinews, so if you plan to publish news in Chinese, please contact my ZH User talk to let me read your brilliant news and I can help.--Wasami007 (talk) 05:43, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please forward to scoop the reply email (at least) of the Jillea interview? (ASAP?) It really should be included in the documentation. I've been considering, under the circumstances, publishing anyway without waiting for it; and I think I'll do that; but if possible, to dot the i‍'s and cross the t‍'s as it were, forward of relevant email to scoop would be much appreciated. --Pi zero (talk) 21:08, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, just seeing this now. Sent. Thanks for the review! -- Zanimum (talk) 21:38, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The file "SW Hasbro.m4a" didn't reach scoop (there's only a 250 byte file header there). It's clearly needed for review of the piece. (I admit to being embarrassed, well above and beyond having not gotten to the review sooner, that I could easily have checked much earlier that all the files arrived at scoop intact, but didn't. Must add that somewhere on the Tips page, to help other reviewers avoid that mistake.) --Pi zero (talk) 14:48, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I think that the file has sent now, @Pi zero:, it seems to load from my sent folder. -- Zanimum (talk) 16:31, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4IOKvI99XhqMXh5TEZLNVA2M2s2Tm14eEtiUFJHeHE2Uzl3/view?usp=drivesdk

I've copied it over to Google Drive, as well. -- Zanimum (talk) 16:34, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've downloaded it from scoop and afaics (on quick inspection) it plays. --Pi zero (talk) 16:46, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ask / Facebook page[edit]

Hello, I'm Mikani from French Wikinews. I have small questions on the use of social networks made by the English version, especially Facebook. @Pi zero: told me that it was you who could publish on the English wikinews page of Facebook. Is it right ? Thank you --mik@ni 08:45, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Mikani: Yes, that's me. How can I help? It's manually updated, whereas I presume that the Twitter account use an IFTTT action, if that's the question. (I don't have access to the Twitter, so that's just an educated guess.) -- Zanimum (talk) 13:49, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I don't come for twitter. I manage with two other members of French Wikinews the Facebook page in French. I have read the Facebook Q&A. Look what could be done about our presence on this social network. I realized that it was possible to have a global page with local variations (https://www.facebook.com/business/help/331800410323820?id=960266880806087) (same name, different presentation). I want to launch a thinking on a possible merger of all Wikinews pages on Facebook in order to have content adapted to each language or region. From my point of view, this will be a way to increase the attractiveness of Wikinews on this social network. --mik@ni 16:23, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for delayed reply. That does make a lot of sense, I like it. So long as there are no objections from the community, and so long as I can't see anything tonight (Eastern Time) I think we should proceed. As I've noted on the water cooler, existing followers continue to get the same content, and our 2300 French-speaking followers get to discover that a very active community exists in their own language. -- Zanimum (talk) 20:01, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
