Rename to 2022-23 Russian invasion of Ukraine, as the war continues; see Category:2008-09 financial crisis. JJLiu112 (talk) 00:02, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia had many long and painful discussions about this (from midnight on January 1) and there was no consensus to move because the invasion happened in 2022, although the war continues into 2023. Not saying that we should just follow what Wikipedia does, but. Heavy Water (talk) 00:09, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yet there, it's named 2007–2008 financial crisis :p...anyways, it'd be worth at the least discussing here, in the context of an evolving current events site. JJLiu112 (talk) 00:25, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That was in December. In February, they renamed it to Russian invasion of Ukraine (2022-23), then in March renamed it again to just Russian invasion of Ukraine. Heavy Water (talk) 02:16, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Chiming in a little late here, but an invasion is a starting point and thus can only be a single point in time regardless of whether it continues or was successful, hence 2022. If we change it, the new name should be an agreed-upon name of the conflict ("Russo-Ukrainian War" or something along those lines). My two cents. Cheers, --SVTCobra 06:15, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

However, I just realized WP uses it for all hostilities since 2014 (see w:Russo-Ukrainian War). SVTCobra 06:30, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be worth consolidating all articles of the Russian-Ukrainian hostilities into one mega-category titled 'Russo-Ukrainian War'? Same for Category:2016 UK EU referendum to one big 'Brexit' category, and I'm sure other examples exist. JJLiu112 (talk) 16:04, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It would be a big task: everything in Category:War in Donbas and Category:Crimea (post-2014) would need recategorizing. Worth it, though. I would certainly Support renaming "2016 UK EU referendum": besides the repetitive acronyms and non-standard name, recent articles there mention Brexit's aftermath, not the referendum itself (see Loyalists suspected of threatening Irish Foreign Minister with fake bomb, for example). Heavy Water (talk) 16:35, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I withdraw both recommendations per talk there. But I support renaming to Russian invasion of Ukraine. JJLiu112 (talk) 04:12, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Bumping the topic to see if there is still interest in it.
I would support a rename inline with SVTCobra's comments here and here and JJLiu112's comment here. Meaning I would support a move to something like Russo-Ukrainian War. I could also lend a hand in changing Category:War in Donbas and Category:Crimea. Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 15:24, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
