Talk:Iran issues arrest warrants for 36 people, including US President Trump; seeks Interpol's aid
Add topicOmission of Trump and or Soleimani
[edit]It seems to me the real reason this is news is the naming of Donald Trump among the warrants. The sources certainly think it is important. Why doesn't this headline? I can see it another way, too, the commonality is the United States military kills Qasem Soleimani. One of the two need to be in the headline! --SVTCobra 02:50, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- Are those 30 people citizens of the US and not of any other country? If yes, maybe the headline can be more precise. Else, it is okay as-is.
103.254.128.134 (talk) 03:02, 30 June 2020 (UTC)- Well, all the warrants are related to Qasem Soleimani and his demise in Iraq. I don't think Iran is making any bones about putting Trump on that list. So what does it matter if all 30 are Americans? --SVTCobra 03:26, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- If Iran put warrants out for 30 drug dealers or thieves it WOULD NOT be news. (well, it could be local news). It is only because Soeleimani and Trump. You get my meaning. There needs to be more meat in the title! --SVTCobra 03:30, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- I think if Iran put warrants out for 30 drug dealers or thieves, depending on the circumstances, it may pass the car crash test. However, making predictions for things that haven't happened is not my job. There are too many variables to make a call before anything has happened.

- I get you point. I was meaning to put Donald Trump in the headline but I was cautious about this, so I played it safe. My main concern is that: only Iran says Trump is wanted. Interpol remains silent as it's not required to publish publicly names on its lists. (Although they sometimes do on their website.) Indeed, the title may be more relevant with Trump on the headline. Any suggestion? --Don't call 911 (talk) 06:45, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
- I've tweaked the headline from "Donald Trump" to "US President Trump", because, one, it's possible in principle for a reader to not know who Donald Trump is, and two, the reason he's significant is his office. Actually, here his office is more significant than his identity, although his identity is part of uniqueness. ("Tell the most important and unique thing.") --Pi zero (talk) 20:11, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Numbers in headlines
[edit]We especially try to rearrange headlines for disasters to avoid specific death tolls, because they're very likely to change within the 24-hour period after publication and we don't like to rename articles after publication. Wouldn't have guessed this number would be flexible enough to evoke the same principle, but since it's changed once, one wonders. --Pi zero (talk) 21:05, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
