third paragraph

[edit]

{{editprotected}} Looks like a typo made the whole paragraph italicised. "Talaq" being the non-English word should be italicised and the rest of the sentence should not be.

And "talaq" in headline should be italicised.

Fixed the typo. I admit I don't tend to get excited about headline formatting; historically we've almost never bothered with it. --Pi zero (talk) 20:09, 29 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
That is not a good reason not to do that. Especially when the SG mentions foreign language words should be italicised and that applies for the headline as well.

Done and Not done back in November. --SVTCobra 21:34, 7 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you disagree with the actions in November, please resubmit with an appeal to why the reasons are insufficient and why the archive should be opened to make a minor, but technically difficult change. Please do not just revert the {{editprotected}} much higher in the discussion. That is not a valid appeal. --SVTCobra 01:10, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Style Guide itself is good reason to make the change. There is a difference between declining and being uncomfortable.

As a practical matter, what would be the wiki markup code for it? --Pi zero (talk) 01:30, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Nowhere in Wikinews:Style_guide#Headlines does it say article titles should have italics. Neither does Wikinews:Naming conventions. Both are official policy. Do you even read policy or do you just think you know it? If you would like to change this policy, please bring it up at Wikinews:Water cooler/Policy. Cheers, --SVTCobra 01:32, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't ever recall seeing an article on Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project that had a mix of italics and non-italics. I do not know if it is technically possible at this moment. So bring it up at Technical and/or Policy, but stop making it an {{editprotected}}. Thanks, --SVTCobra 01:36, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@SVTCobra: The way the headline is displayed when viewing the article can be changed; some Wikipedia articles do it, and some Wikinews articles. Afaik there's plenty of precedent for doing it and for not doing it. (It doesn't affect how the headline appears in DPLs, though.) Btw, there's a bit in the SG about italics, might be what was being referenced, though I don't think that bit explicitly discusses headlines. --Pi zero (talk) 01:46, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
I know about italicizing entire article titles, but a single word? I have never seen it. For a whole title it is {{Italic title}} on WP. You can see my use of it here at Longboat Observer. --SVTCobra 01:55, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) (twice) @Pi zero: {{DISPLAYTITLE|Supreme Court of India begins hearing against <span style="font-style: italic">triple talaq</span>}}. If I got it right. -- Riddle, Tom Jr

Edit

[edit]

{{editprotected}} In the third-to-last paragraph, please delink "Union government", which links to the now-deleted Government of India. Also Deccan Chronicle is misspelled "Decan Chronicle" in the |pub= for the first source. Heavy Water (talk) 04:01, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
