BEHOLD THE FLV PLAYER!
[edit]Hey Dragonfire!
I've uploaded the video player, it works perfectly. I'm just uploading a test vid - one that I think shows what many people think of americans as (even though it is unfair)
The video is off an australian comedy show (they like to poke fun at every country) so, don't take it too seriously.
Oh, and take a look at the player
lol
It is located at http://members.iinet.com.au/~symode09/flv/stupidamericans.html
note how fast it loads... on a sluggish server!
--Symode09 16:37, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- Also, if you hover over the video, the controlls will appear. It is pixelated because I stretched the video

Why were my edits reverted?
[edit]Hi Dragonfire1024. Why were my edits to http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Shooting_at_Virginia_Tech%3B_at_least_31_dead reverted? I used information from wikipedia with sources. Sifaka 20:30, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not a news source...and also, refrence'sare not used on Wikinews. Also, Wikipedia is and will likely be using the same sources as we are. DragonFire1024 20:35, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- My sources came from news articles, not wikipedia. It was merely copied from Wikipedia, which is not copyrighted, since this article is lacking information about the said topics. I think my edits should be restored. Furthermore that article on wikipedia is not going to be up for speedy deletion at all. I am not sure how you came to that conclusion. Sifaka 20:37, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- We do not copy and paste info from Wikipedia...if they have sources that are on Wikipedia that can be found on google news eetc...then we can use those sources. Wikipedia is not a news source. DragonFire1024 20:39, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think you may have misunderstood. I used the actual news sources, not wikipedia as a source. I only copied what was on Wikipedia. User:Ycanneh said "please refrain (from copying wikipedia), it makes us look like a mirror." However, the information of Wikipedia concerning the description of the shooter is valid and ought to be in the article is some form or another because it has been discussed in multiple news outlets. Wikinews ought to be kept current with the latest information, after all it is news. Why should new information hit Wikipedia first and not be available here? I believe that the shooter's description is an important part of the unfolding story and one people will want to know. Sifaka 20:50, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- It can be available here with proper news sources and edits NOT copied and pasted from Wikipedia. If you can find the info in separate sources, then it can be added. Sorry...not trying to be a hard-ass...but copying and pasting from WP and other news sources is not allowed. WP Info, if properly sourced on Wikinews, can be rewritten to fit into the article. DragonFire1024 20:53, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- I put a paraphrased non copy of the info on the talk page of the article with sources. If you want to rewrite it, it's there. Sifaka 21:07, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Welcomes
[edit]Why do you send welcomes to users who are not yet registered? How do you know they are not vandals? See: (Welcomes). --SVTCobra 02:42, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- I send welcomes to registerred users only and to anon users who test...Where do you get I was sending them to non-registered users? DragonFire1024 06:28, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
- Is this the "welcome" or the "test" message: User talk:71.103.67.189? --SVTCobra 20:38, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- So I made one mistake...su me...besides the user was already editing and I made the message the same time I warned them about posting rewards. DragonFire1024 20:50, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- One of these days you're going to welcome a WoW username that goes and does lots of vandalism. It is best to wait until newly registered users have made an edit that doesn't merit the test template or a vandalism warning. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:03, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

can u go onto the IRC, thanks
- Then why have a welcome committee? I have always done it like this...personally a welcome message shows them that we are already watching them and are aware of their account and the edits they may make right after creating the user name...IMO. DragonFire1024 20:19, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Symode09 05:48, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I've never understood the hesitantcy of welcoming users who havn't contrbiuted (weather it is useful or not is a debate for another time). If they are WoW, or some other vandal, so what. WoW is still going to vandalize regardless, the welcome message didn't hurt. Bawolff ☺☻ 22:04, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi Dragon, you seem to putting the welcome (or some kind of subst welcome) on user talk pages for which there is no user. (User talk:Saikano). --SVTCobra 19:43, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well any welcome message I send to a new user...is from the User Creation Log. DragonFire1024 19:48, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Were they deleted already? All the ones in red have no user page and no contributions. --SVTCobra 19:50, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Users don't need to have a userpage or contributions to be a user...the creation log is those users who have made an account with Wikinews, but that does not mean they have done anything more than create an account. DragonFire1024 19:54, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes they do. All users have the "User contributions" botton on the bottom left side of the page. User:Saikano is a user as he does have the "User contributions" botton. If a user doesn't, they are not a user and cannot edit with their account; they simply created the page. —FellowWikiNewsie 20:17, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

reverting
[edit]the rollback button provided for administrators is meant to be used in case of obvious vandalism and disruption and shld'nt be used as a shortcut for reverting good faith edits. "Rollbacks should be used with caution and restraint, in part because they leave no explanation for the revert in the edit summary. Reverting a good-faith edit may therefore send the message that "I think your edit was no better than vandalism and doesn't deserve even the courtesy of an explanation." It is a slap in the face to a good-faith editor. If you use the rollback feature for anything other than vandalism or for reverting yourself, it's polite to leave an explanation on the article talk page, or on the talk page of the user whose edit(s) you reverted." (WP on rollback). –Doldrums(talk) 09:05, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

- So ED...using anon IPS to evade a block? I could as well block you for that But I won't as I am now considering myself to be in a dispute with you. What you did was deceiving and evading block. It actually goes more to show what some users will do to evade blocks and cause trouble. Why act in a manner that IMO does not reflect your age? DragonFire1024 07:46, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Earthlike...
[edit]How is that a better image? It is tiny and subject to all kinds of restrictions. I will revert to the previous image in 15 minutes if you do not reply. --SVTCobra 03:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- One: The image listed previously is on commons with no sources, and is not "free" to use on commons as the ESO's image policy states. I know its small, but unless those images can be sourced on Commons they will be deleted, and I have informed them of it. WHo are we to know who created tose images.
- Also, none of the observations of this planet were made by NASA. In fact, NASA had nothing to do with this discovery. Those images are also falsely representing the license. DragonFire1024 03:22, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, well I just go by Commons. I don't use anything that's not on Commons and I'll use anything on Commons (as long as it's not already tagged) and as long as it is on there it is not Wikinews' problem, it's Commons' problem.
- But the fact that NASA didn't discover or have anything to do with the discovery is totally irrelevant to the discussion of images (all of which are artists impressions since it is so far away).
- Moving on... How do you know that that little picture is ok by ESO standards? Their statement is about 300dpi and above images. Shouldn't you find the image on ESO.org instead of space.com? You're adding an extra level of implied trust in space.com that they didn't alter or do anything to violate ESO's copyright. I'd rather trust Commons, there are lots of dillegent people who will take down copyrighted material as it is discovered. With your upload, I not sure if enough qualified people will review it. (I am certainly not qualified)
