Thank you very much for that, it is a fascinating read from someone who knows the political landscape of Thailand very well. He is quite accurate that TRT was populist, but there is no mention of what the policies were that proved popular to the rural poor. It is interesting that he speculates that the suspended constitution will form the basis for its replacement, the issue is how do you keep the bodies like the Election Commission free from partisan biases? --Brian McNeil / talk17:49, 29 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

It works for me, I get a Collapse/Expand button at the top. It is inconsistent here (wikinews), it works in Firefox, but not IE unless you add wikinews to your trusted sites. On wikipedia similar navigation seems to work in all browsers.

I notice you referred to my edits as "crap". Just to let you know I think your edits are very stinky and worthless crap only good for braindeads who are a waste of skin.
I can prove my edits help the project because when I'm gone our audience drops like a rock (my last edits were Sep. 4th). Your edits are worthless crap which noone but you are interested in at all. Get a life.Neutralizer21:53, 3 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
This is the kind of nasty personal attack (calling my edits "crap") and insulting hypocrisy I found incitefully interjected into an attempt at DR. You are a terrible example of provocation and disharmony as shown in your "fuck-off" edits of the past and continuing nasty comments about the edits of me and others. You like to be nasty but don't like the exact same words thrown back your way. That's just too damn bad; this isn't a discriminatory project; the rules apply to everyone equally; look up the word hypocrite before you start bitching about other people being nasty. Hubble story questions
How do you cite sources if they are simply interviews? None of my sources are internet stories, as this just came up and the embargo was just lifted. I'm new at this, and I want to clean this up and get it to stay.
Also, did your comment mean that I need to put those notes in my own talk page, like this one for you? I just clicked on a link for where to put them. I appologize for putting them in the inappropriate place.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I don't apologise to trolls, the user has made multiple edits that could be considered a violation of his parole, and zero edits to main space articles since his return. I stand by what I said, and I'm not retracting it. --Brian McNeil / talk06:38, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Correction to block message
Latest comment: 18 years ago2 comments2 people in discussion
There is a problem with the block message when you view the source of a page.
You may be able to contact Messedrocker or one of the other administrators here to discuss the block, or [[Special:Emailuser/Messedrocker|e-mail]] the admin who blocked you using the "e-mail user" link on their user page.
I consider many of the things written by Neutralizer to be severe attacks on a wide segment of the Wikinews community. If labelling everyone who used the Journowiki site as a sandbox a member of some cabal bent on the destruction of Wikinews isn't a delusion, I don't know what is. Have you looked at the site at all? See here and click the link at the bottom. The domain has expired, a domain parking service has it in the hope they can either (a) make money from adverts on it, or (b) get extra cash selling it on if Amgine ever decides he wants it again. What does Neutralizer think? He thinks Amgine is now profiting from links to the site from Wikinews. Then there's the rant about me calling some of his edits "crap", I give an example above. Just how many countries are there that don't have an "innocent until proven guilty" judicial system? And how many of them have widespread Internet access as well? You might also look at the dates on that edit, it was a deliberate attempt to get that into a story where very few editors might catch it.
Now, if you want to dig through my past edits, you'll find that I have indeed insulted Neutralizer several times in the past. Go beyond that and you'll see I earlier had tried to mediate when he had disputes with other contributors, appealed for lesser penalties, and tried to explain how he could contribute constructively with less conflict. Now, last thing is to look up Neutralizer's edit history, and see that the vast majority of his edits are to talk and policy pages. He's a POV warrior, his ideology is more important than the project's goal of producing timely news. I simply gave up on him, he has to change - not the wiki. I believe those who have commented on WN:ALERT probably agree with me. --Brian McNeil / talk19:18, 6 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Funny to meet one of the very few ;-))) named Mc... not knowing that today France was beaten in football by Scotland... BTW I'll need someone else to rename it because, even if I take a login, I'll have to wait four long days to be allowed to change a title. 82.224.88.5222:01, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I must confess I've never seen the attraction of kicking a ball about a field. But I'll have a measure of something honey-coloured to celebrate beating the French. ;-) For the renaming, try and ramble a bit on the talk page about what you want to convey in the title, a short invitation to read the article that makes perfect sense after you read the first sentence is a good approach. --Brian McNeil / talk22:13, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't have it, so if you think that it would classify fair use, then please do so. I might have added another image by then, but feel free to substitute it. Thanks!
Very nice, thanks but I'm a bit concerned that you have tagged them as "logo", since they're not logos strictu sensu... However I can't imagine that this wouldn't be fair use, and logo is probably the closest thing to the truth... --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 19:17, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

PVJ59 called for my homecountry to be "destroyed" and "annihalated". And is getting away with it, without even apologizing. Wikinews claims to provide NEWS. What are you providing here, Hamas news? Or neutral news? If you want Wikinews to have any right to call itself 'neutral', this antisemitic idiot will have to either immediately and publicly APOLOGIZE or he will have to LEAVE Wikinews. I am not settling for anything less. --Daniel57523:50, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Brian I see this as a provocation against Bosnian people. You wrote "Bosanski jezik" in Cyrillic. The web site does not even register Cyrillic. I am a bureaucrat on the bs. wikinews and honestly am outraged for this action. Please read about the Bosnian language on the en wikipedia. I ask you to change this. Thanks, Vseferovic
I meant no offense, please tell me exactly what text you want and I'll put it in place. I'm sorry for offending you by displaying my ignorance. --Brian McNeil / talk19:22, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Put "Bosanski jezik" instead of Cyrillic. I'm bur. too and I've tried logging in here and it doesn't work. Please fix this bosnian... (preceding unsigned comment byEmx from Bosnian Wikinews)
Question about DPL
Latest comment: 18 years ago7 comments4 people in discussion
If I were to put a DPL on my talk page (for example, [[Category:Wikinewsies looking for help]]) would I get a "You have a new message" message every time it was updated, or would it not be an edit? Thunderhead(talk) 19:32, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Right. Basically the DPL is counted as a standalone portion of the page, and changes in what it shows aren't actually changes to the source code of the page. -- IlyaHaykinson19:54, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
I've just done my first blocks, two inapropriate usernames. But I was somewhat confused over the "account creation" prevention: should be unchecked in these cases, no?
Also, shouldn't that box appear unchecked when you open a page, I mean it shouldn't be the standard option, right?
The account creation block is, if I recall correctly, a 24 hour block on the same IP address creating a new account. I've never fully investigated all the intricacies of the blocking mechanisms. --Brian McNeil / talk19:50, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

This has come in so close that you could almost stick it into the article, but a brief "aftermath" or "reckoning" followup would probably be the best way to introduce the figures plus any other stuff coming up because of the hurricane. --Brian McNeil / talk21:21, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
If you don't mind, I have two more questions. One, do you consider this breaking news? Or basically, should I add the breaking news template to the article? And two, I noticed that there was a template for breaking news images or something like that, so does that mean that if this is breaking news, I can upload a pic, regardless of its actual licensing? Icelandic Hurricane00:11, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
You asked after I quit for the night, it might have been breaking then and whilst you could upload a picture because it was breaking it'll end up deleted if it is later found to run afoul of licensing restrictions. --Brian McNeil / talk17:22, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I wasn't aware of the 2 sources policy till recently, but will try and implement in as much as possible. I was under the impression that editors were supposed to use whichever date format they were most familiar with, which is why I used date/month/year. But if it will make your archiving tasks easier, I'll start using the dare format you indicated. PVJ(Talk)(Articles I have written)16:59, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm not totally happy that we're stuck with a US-ish date format, but the point is to be consistent on the article header and categories and sources. --Brian McNeil / talk17:01, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I note your request to claim your username on Wikiquote. The only way to do this is to get Kalki, the only Bureaucrat on Wikiquote, to move the existing Brianmc to another name and then allow you to create the user again. Wikipedia doesn't allow 'usurpation' of usernames, although their rules don't necessarily apply on Wikiquote. Fys22:42, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have seen it now, and I do not consider it anywhere as useful as the Digest. I suppose it is just being completist to collect all the categories together. Thanks, I need to get Skenmy to do the same statistical analysis he did on himself to see what percentage of the wiki I've touched. Incidentally, Amgine is a guy.
I wasn't totally sure how to approach that, but I like the dynamic sub-cats. What I'm not sure on is if I've "technically" make Wikipedia a person in the process. I thought we had to wait until it became self-aware before we did that. :-) --Brian McNeil / talk21:36, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's okay, thanks. I can pretty much officially say we've not got the Oscars. Despite my best efforts, they won't accept the blame for not sending me a copy of the credential application on time, something I have multiple reasons to blame them for. Anyway, have to pester the Academy monthly from now until this time next year, to make sure they acknowledge the internet's 10th most popular site as legit. -- Zanimum22:10, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Can you give me a shout on my talk page when you have time to pull something together about what went wrong with the Oscars? This should go up on the water cooler and we may have to take points to the foundation to make sure people can reasonably represent themselves. I would be very annoyed to discover that we effectively had a "ticket" to Oscars coverage and lost it because of internal bureaucracy issues, and I'm sure Jimbo would feel the same. If that's what happened we need to make sure it can't happen again. --Brian McNeil / talk22:23, 14 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Correction here is removing an elipsis character and explicitly replacing it with three periods ("...") No spelling error in the quote, but I do get your point. --Brian McNeil / talk20:13, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, like what? Lori Brown wrote the article after attending the press conference, asking questions, and reviewing all the press packet materials. It's what any reporter does. I then helped her with the editing. That strikes us as sufficient. But she and I are both new to WikiNews and learning how to do it. So if you know something we don't, can you be more specific? (And, please, don't direct us to a long file of instructions. A simple answer will do.)
That said, I can't help pointing out that it strikes me as unjustified for you, on your own initiative, to take down a posted story and throw it back into development when the story is quite fine the way it is. If it needs some tweaking on matters of "OR notes" (whatever OR means), just leave the story up and ask for the tweaking. We're happy to do it. After all, it won't be news much longer. 67.94.0.4616:48, 1 December 2006 (UTC) FredReply
