Request for reviewing and other assistance

[edit]

Hi. Next week is the start of the IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships and two Wikinewies will be attending to cover the para-alpine skiing ahead of the 2014 Winter Paralympics . This is part of an effort outlined at Wikinews:IPC Alpine Ski World Championships. Immediately following this event, there will be a Meetup in Barcelona where Wikinews, the Paralympics and efforts to similar sport coverage will be discussed. At the moment, there are only two active reviewers on a daily basis. Demonstrating an ability to get reviews for these types of events done quickly is important for Wikinews credibility and gaining access to these types of events. I would really appreciate it if you could sign up on the IPC World Championship page to review, promote articles published during this period, assist in translating these articles into another language or attend the meetup in Barcelona. Thanks. --LauraHale (talk) 09:31, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Arrest article

[edit]

Good work! --Bddpaux (talk) 03:23, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Managed to publish, but had to rip out a lot from the last paragraph because by the time I finally got to it, the fourth source was no longer available. There may be a moral there about that type of alert. --Pi zero (talk) 23:31, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Apologies

[edit]

I apologize for my overly critical reviews. Yesterday was a bit stressful reviewing wise, and I did not quite put it away when I was working on your articles. (At the same time, I am trying to do original reporting, and experiencing my own frustrations with that, which make it probably even more wise to stay away from reviewing unless an article is an obvious not ready instead of could be made ready if the reviewer spent an hour or so working on it. pi zero spends a lot of time with mine fixing those little issues that take time and I can appreciate how well he does that. The lack of time and lack of reviewers occasionally leads to misplaced crankiness.) Again, I am sincerely sorry for the overly critical reviews where I took out other frustrations on your articles. --LauraHale (talk) 16:44, 24 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Semi-retirement

[edit]

Was surprised to see you'd semi-retired. I hope it hasn't been caused by something bad that's happened in your life. We'll all miss you here. --Pi zero (talk) 02:01, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Glad to see you back and making an edit. :) You were missed.--LauraHale (talk) 21:28, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Jury finds two men guilty of Liam Aitchison murder

[edit]

Um. Sorry for the confusion, but a User:PeterAV submitted your article for review, apparently in the midst of you writing it. Because I suspect PeterAV (being a completely newbie) doesn't understand our workflow, I undid the submit.

So, please submit the article yourself when you consider it ready. --Pi zero (talk) 00:02, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Scottish court jails Joseph Kearins for culpable homicide of Jordan McGuire‎

[edit]

Can you add a better sense of time to Scottish court jails Joseph Kearins for culpable homicide of Jordan McGuire‎ and then it should be good to published? Very good work otherwise. :) --LauraHale (talk) 09:43, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I can tell you the defendant was sentenced yesterday. However, the sources make no mention of when he was initially charged with murder, so I can't include that detail in the story. --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 09:49, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the fix. And yeah, when I went back to re-verify that, noticed that problem. (And only one source says the date the sentencing actually happened.) Published. --LauraHale (talk) 09:54, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Also... good to see you back :)

[edit]

Just wanted to say that it is good to see you back and contributing. :) You were missed. :) --LauraHale (talk) 10:04, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Was I really? Thanks very much :) --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 10:05, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Stornoway, Scotland shop Wee W announces imminent closure

[edit]

I asked for some clarification on significance; my guess is it's newsworthy if clarified, but while it won't be equally important to all readers, all readers should understand from the article why it is important to some people. Review comments. --Pi zero (talk) 11:30, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Item at mosque

[edit]

Please see my comments here. The reviewing labour has been tough lately and additional timely work will be required before the article can be published, to properly address the "What is going on now?" question using fresh details. Gryllida 05:44, 27 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Barnstar

[edit]

It's great to see a collection of articles covering a particular story really well. I looked for a "barnstar" visually appropriate to the occasion, and found this.

To Rayboy8, for breadth of coverage of the Liam Aitchison case through a collection of articles over time. --Pi zero (talk) 13:17, 30 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Assistance with understanding how much original reporting costs

[edit]

Hello and I apologize for writing in English. As all language Wikinews improves, The Wikinewsie Group wants to be able better support original reporting done by contributors like you. One of our newsletters at The Wikinewsie Group/Newsletter said you have recently published an original report. This is why I am contacting you.

Members of the The Wikinewsie Group are trying to assess the costs associated with original reporting across all Wikinews projects. This way, we can determine how much original reporting currently costs, who is paying for it, what Wikinews and other projects get for these costs (especially when paid for by unpaid, volunteer contributor reporters). This information can then be used in applying for grants, measuring the success of Wikinews original reporting and seeing how reporters can be better supported. If you could complete this survey on that topic, we would very much appreciate it. We will try to anonymize the responses as best possible when writing up any report. Thank you very much for taking the time to fill it out (especially in English). Please do not hesitate to ask me or pi zero about any questions you may have about this research. We hope the results will enable us to better assist you in conducting more original reporting on Wikinews. --LauraHale (talk) 08:41, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
