VoA - Six die in Nigeria church shooting[edit]

Could I please, once again ask you to reduce reliance on VoA as a source to an absolute minimum? I know they release material into the public domain, they have to — they are 100% funded by the U.S. government.

That is all the more reason not to import verbatim and require use of the {{VOA}} template. In this case, they have an additional two wounded individuals with zero indication where that comes from.

If you simply treat them as a regular source, taking the same pains to avoid plagiarism as you would with any other, I suspect you will be far less likely to unintentionally use loaded language or be biased to their POV. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:34, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Another thing that makes me uncomfortable about VOA is that, used in combination with a mainstream US or UK source, it's hard to judge how independent the two sources really are — since they don't have to credit VOA (just like some of them think they don't have to credit Wikipedia), and are more likely to take VOA info uncritically as they have similar perspectives. Using VOA and AJE one would have more confidence they're really independent, since AJE is less likely to drink the Kool-Aid (but if I'm using AJE and a US/UK source, the US/UK one I'd choose wouldn't be VOA). --Pi zero (talk) 15:54, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Wright Stuff[edit]

Since you followed this story, you may be interested in some headlines I just came across: [1] [2] Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 14:53, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for sharing those links Blood Red Sandman. An interesting compromise. --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 18:29, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Lead confusion[edit]

Things got a bit mixed up, I'm afraid. I do generally move from publishing an article directly to considering how (if at all) to make it a lead; usually (these days) I decide it should be a lead. It does take me a few minutes, often, because (besides being slow, as we all know) I consider which lead to replace, what leads (if any) to shift about, and —especially difficult, if the article doesn't have an image embedded in it— what image to use on the lead. --Pi zero (talk) 15:47, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Oh, sorry about that. I try to do that as well. No harm done. --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 18:36, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

For perseverance, if for nothing else![edit]

....just really thought you deserved this, considering recent contributions and what-not!

PA story for Dutch train crash[edit]

The Press Association article link from londonstockexchange.com is no longer online. See Talk:Netherlands train crash kills one, injures at least 117. Thought I should tell you in case you want to rework the article in any way. —Tom Morris (talk) 11:30, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Mexico authorities find over four dozen corpses[edit]

You made significant improvements to the article and it was published this morning. Strong on newsworthiness in a long-drawn out drug war. With the textual and graphic improvements you made, I don't think your audience will be spatially confused anymore. I added a source to account for the responsibility issue; in the Sun Sentinel, Domene was attributed as saying the Los Zetas were responsible. Good use of background in the article. Nice job! Crtew (talk) 14:27, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I wasn't fully awake when I initially wrote that article. -__- Thank you for the advice and sorry about all the mistakes. --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 18:25, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Wedding photo[edit]

Does Facebook have the wedding photo up on the PR site? Crtew (talk) 20:54, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Congrats, your article on Facebook's first couple getting married was published! I double checked for the photo availability myself, but I left the address of Facebook corporate PR as an answer to your question on my talk page. Check it out sometime! I didn't find anything either. This is only the second story I have edited of yours. I like your sense of news a lot and I find myself gravitating to your stories. You still need to work a bit on synthesis so that at least no more than 3 words are directly from a source article. My suggestion is to think about this as synthesis and less about rephrasing. There were a few details I added, for instance the NASDAQ offering. Since we didn't have a photo, I added a description of the wedding clothes. Overall, the article was a good one and I enjoyed editing it. I'm still working on getting my system down, which is why it might be taking me a bit longer than either Pi or BRS. Thanks, Crtew (talk) 21:48, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

UK court jails BBC Rogue Traders presenter Dan Penteado for benefit fraud[edit]

Found not-ready (review comments); there may have been a misunderstanding about whether it was ready to submit, as I did notice it was submitted by someone else. --Pi zero (talk) 16:13, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

I wasn't expecting SVTCobra to put that up for review as I hadn't finished developing it yet. Sorry about the mistakes, I will try to rectify them as soon as possible. --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 18:19, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
These things happen. We've evidently wall-to-wall good intentions. :-)  --Pi zero (talk) 19:07, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Please check the article's talk page. --Bddpaux (talk) 16:25, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Please can you review my article[edit]

Hi, I would preciate your opinion and help with my first article. Some ask for more sources, but it has already four coming from realiable strong media in Spain and the USAm and Poland. Thanks in advance. http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Artur_Balder_awarded_with_the_International_Spanish-American_Prize_2012 --FiloActual (talk) 17:08, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Costa Rican quake[edit]

  • You able to do a re-review? I've copyedited, reviewed and published five or six articles in the last 14-odd hours; I'm fried. --Brian McNeil / talk 18:27, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
Sure, I'd be happy to oblige. By the way, could you please review my latest article as well? --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 18:52, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Scottish police arrest man over four-year-old sexual assault in Clydebank supermarket[edit]

The title on this is a little long, and can be read as "Police have arrested a man for a sexual assault that took place four years ago" --Brian McNeil / talk 13:29, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Rectified --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 15:11, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

UK's Sunday Times names Exeter 'University of the Year'[edit]

See review comments. (As always when this sort of thing happens, I can't help imagining an alternate reality in which it got reviewed on the first day. :-S) --Pi zero (talk) 15:35, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

UK's Channel 4 cancels drama series Shameless[edit]

Sorry I didn't catch this one in time (I've just been reminded of it, as it was among the latest batch of articles formally deleted). S'pose my review rate has been recovering slowly after the big push for the Paralympics... but, well, no less sad for that. --Pi zero (talk) 13:00, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

'I'm not well enough to perform': Contestant Lucy Spraggan withdraws from UK's X Factor[edit]

I had some concerns about the article; assessed it as not-ready. Review comments. --Pi zero (talk) 19:57, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Review[edit]

Sorry it's taking me so long to get to that batch of three articles you wrote. You submitted them just as I was getting out from under the holiday and starting on my marathon review of the appeals court article.

The Mandela article had a bunch of stuff in it that needed fixing, btw. --Pi zero (talk) 20:04, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi, sorry about all the mistakes, I pretty much rushed through writing these articles. --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 20:10, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
