Welcome[edit]

Rfc1394, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! -- NGerda July 1, 2005 21:58 (UTC)

Audio Wikinews News brief[edit]

Excellent pronunciation and tone! One minor thing I'd like to suggest, you may want to turn your mic's volume down. That's it! Great job! NGerda July 1, 2005 22:14 (UTC)

Congrats from me as well! Although I don't think it is that the microphone volume is too loud, but that your mouth is too close to the microphone. Great opening sound clip! --Munchkinguy 5 July 2005 02:33 (UTC)

Upload location[edit]

Hi there. Thanks for recording Audio Wikinews. Since your content is licensed with a free license, you should be uploading it to Wikimedia Commons, and not here. -- IlyaHaykinson 1 July 2005 22:26 (UTC)

Just to clarify, the links still stay the same. NGerda July 1, 2005 22:27 (UTC)

Audio Wikinews[edit]

You're doing great work on Audio Wikinews! Welcome and thank you! Would you consider joining us in the "real time chat" (link found at the top of your screen) for a few moments? It will be quicker than trying to conduct a conversation over talk pages... --Chiacomo (talk) 2 July 2005 04:14 (UTC)

Audio Wikinews Scripts[edit]

You may have seen this on the water cooler, but if not, please see: Wikinews talk:Audio Wikinews#Standardized Scripting for Briefs and Full Reports --Chiacomo (talk) 2 July 2005 05:29 (UTC)

Your recent Edits[edit]

If you have time could you please join us in the "real time chat" (IRC) for a few mins. --Cspurrier 2 July 2005 20:31 (UTC)

Some tips...[edit]

Please have a look at Wikinews:Writing an article and Wikinews:Reporter's tools for information on writing a story and especially how to properly format sources for an article using the {{source}} template. Oh, and by the way, you needne't use the {{date}} template on pages other than actual news articles -- they're used for sorting published articles and archiving. Transcripts don't require them.... --Chiacomo (talk) 2 July 2005 20:59 (UTC)

Just make sure you use {{date}} and ==Sources== on news articles, and you're as cool as ice! You've made some great article additions to the site! -- NGerda July 4, 2005 01:45 (UTC)

Future talk 2[edit]

Hello, I would like to invite you to attend our second future talk, it will be held on Monday, August 1 at 21:00 UTC. It will be held on the Wikinews IRC channel #wikinews For more information please see the page on meta The main topics will be audio Wikinews, WNN and portals/neighborhoods It would be great if you will be able to attend. --Cspurrier 15:42, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

Audio News, again[edit]

Remember to put in the license details and other things from the template. Template for Spoken Wikinews

Image:Union76.jpg - please source[edit]

please source Image:Union76.jpg. It may be deleted without a source. Bawolff 21:44, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

the problem is that it needs a link. I'm aware that its from the department of energy and stuff they make is pd, but it needs a link to where on their site the image was from. See Wikinews:Fair use for details (yes I know its not fair use, but policy still applies to the image). Bawolff 21:57, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Audio Wikinews[edit]

Your latest brief was very nice! However, one of the stories about digital music, was a copyvio... Best to check the page history and the original author, and google part of the text to avoid this... We should remove it from the brief also, I'll do it for you if you don't get around to doing so shortly. Also, I've uploaded the jingles I used in my latest briefs, in case you wish to use them: Media:Wikinews briefs part of intro.ogg and Media:Wikinews briefs jingle.ogg.--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 21:59, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Our editing style[edit]

Hi! Just a couple things.

I've noticed you're wikilinking dates in the {{source}} template; please don't do that.

I also noticed you're making inline external links in your articles. Please don't do that either. :)

Re: North Korea Holds Second Ballistic Missile Firing in One Week[edit]

Do you have a second source for this please?

Question[edit]

Hi Gryllida, I have at least 3 sources I'm editing the story and do periodic saves to prevent loss during editing even though the story is incomplete. The story will get a "review" tag when ready. --Paul Robinson (Rfc1394) (talk) 01:02, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

Yay this sounds awesome, thank you for the update. Gryllida (talk) 01:58, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
A few points so far:
- The headline is expected to be in the sentence case, ie 'second' is not a name or a place so it goes lowercase
- In sources the date format is 'July 31' not '31 July'
- The first paragraph is expected to briefly answer the 5Ws -- who what where when why how -- with more details unfolding in the next para and background at the end. inverted pyramid has an illustration to this. The current version of the first paragraph does not seem to fully answer these questions
Please do not take this too badly as I understand that this is still a draft. I hope these points may help you complete it correctly.
Again thanks and best regards, Gryllida (talk) 02:01, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, this seems mostly addressed. Please check style guide for wikilinks if you have the time, it is a minor edit but it may help readers understand what things mean.
On first mention also please spell them out in full such as 'UN'

North Korea holds second ballistic missile firing in one week[edit]

Hi. See my review comments on this. You need to develop a method of writing synthesis that doesn't involve copying passages at all. (There were some other problems, of course, as the review comments note.) The first article for Wikinews is often the most difficult; there's a lot to learn right off, basic elements for an article to pass review; hopefully it all gets much easier once over that initial learning curve (though, also hopefully, none of us ever stop learning). --Pi zero (talk) 04:45, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Pi zero. It looks like updating the story with recent developments is a good way to go. Gryllida (talk) 01:01, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
I have added sources and updated the first paragraph. Rfc1394 could you please resolve the copyright issue, and insert the exact time and kind of missile of the third test, and submit for review? Thanks! Gryllida (talk) 01:15, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
