Some shitty source was running way too many JavaScript fetches on the main thread, heating up the processor, I haven't identified which -- but was real PITA.

@SVTCobra: thank goodness you are here -- my changes are here. npr says "Contact with the vessel was lost at 4:30 a.m." Re "due to diving too deep, or released the oil while raising to the surface", see CNN's last but one para.
