My goal on this one was to get it prepped quickly. Improvements and collaboration are very welcome. Darkfrog24 (talk) 14:34, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I do see English language sources were late in reporting this, but the focal event is on its last legs. The initial sentence is baffling to say the least. I quote "artificial lighting in a combination of cold front, clouds and smoke" ... Obviously, something is out of order here. --SVTCobra 19:40, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, Gryllida, but I think we need a new focal point. --SVTCobra 21:52, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Really? Did something new happen? Gryllida (talk) 22:35, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
No (well, not that I know), but it happened Monday (no?) and it is Thursday now, Friday GMT --SVTCobra 22:38, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Freshness be a harsh mistress. Darkfrog24 (talk) 23:18, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Darkfrog24, SVTCobra, Gryllida: I think I may have just heard the PBS Newshour say (about an hour ago) there has been a new development in this story, something about reversing a previously stated position that they don't need international assistance to deal with the situation. Maybe. --Pi zero (talk) 23:24, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I hope Darkfrog24 can act on this. I am awake only about two hours every day, and doubt in my ability to contribute. I'm really grateful for your sharing of this. Gryllida (talk) 23:59, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

(edit conflict):::::True. I wonder why the news was so delayed. Sao Paulo is not exactly outside of normal communication distance. Did the "news" just sit on it while they reported on Hong Kong? --SVTCobra 23:32, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have heard there's been a push by the Brazilian government to minimize reports of the fires, largely because the indigenous won a lawsuit earlier this year that gave them rights to the land, and the Brazilian president went out in public, Trump-style and encouraged the farmers and agrobusinesses to violate the ruling.
