There are important, but not critically essential details missing, for example:

• time of day in local time and UTC
• that they planned to do speech outdoors but did it indoors because of a storm
• (is it needed to write '2024' in first paragraph as we already have publish date further up the page)

I could not verify one part:

• Sunday 'morning' mass (source 1 says Sunday, source 2 does not say, or something) -- replaced 'Sunday morning' with 'Sunday'

The above items can be addressed within 24 hours after publication.

The image credit was missing and I added it as a minor edit as a part of the review process. It is required due to the licence requirements.

I recommend the author to also become involved in editing others' submissions -- those of them that are newsworthy, at least -- in the Newsroom, if desired. This may help improve their quality and their chances of publication, and provide experience with proofreading and fact checking in addition to writing and authoring efforts.

Revisit articles in review queue

While waiting for articles I've authored to be reviewed, I often revisit them as long as they aren't under review and 'tighten' them up by making sure they conform to the style guide, that facts are correct, I've chosen good images with useful descriptions (and attributed every image), etc.

I see that there are style issues in some of your articles currently awaiting review. Please see what you can do to help make the review of these articles easier/quicker.

Consider using {{verify}} to point to exactly what source is used for all information so reviewers who verify information can find it easier. This helps tremendously.

It is the author's responsibility to know our policies and guidelilnes, to include the style guide. Reviewers can and often do correct style issues before publishing but they are not required to. It takes more of a reviewers time to correct for style along with everything else they must check before publishing. You are more than welcome, even encouraged to help improve other articles. But please focus that energy on articles in the developing queue and review queue unless the article is actively under review. That way we catch more errors before review and definitely before publication.

Hi. Thanks for, well, contributing here, I guess. So really, if you want to write fast and write prolifically, maybe Wikipedia is a better fit for you than en.wn in its present state. The project couldn't handle a mass influx of even people highly skilled at writing for it (overwhelms the review process, reporters get demoralized). I'm tempted to say that you overestimated the project and what you could do, but that sounds wrong. I don't know why I'm saying all this. You probably already know it. Of what's left, we are overwhelmingly nice people, for what it's worth, and care deeply about en.wn. Just don't, I guess, overinvest yourself in it. One of our colleagues here likes to say "don't get married to your article", so perhaps likewise with the concept and future of the project. Then again, a late editor literally saw himself as embarking on a mission to save human civilization from intellectual ruin and mundanity by making something great out of this project. Re: revitalising Wikinews

Hi, I'm reaching out to you as you indicated support for revitalising Wikinews. Here are a few ways to help out, in no particular order:

1. write new articles by style guide and content guide
2. find news which happened today and share it on live chat or a news tip page
3. read drafts in Newsroom, especially those submitted for review, and edit them to make them more comprehensive or more current
4. read drafts in Newsroom, especially those that failed review recently, and address reviewer's comments quickly and re-submit for review
5. chat with new authors (of articles in Newsroom) and help them understand the key concepts
6. subscribe at Wikinews:Water cooler (there are 5 subforums, open each and click 'Subscribe' link at top - then keep a close eye on your Echo notifications) to help newcomers and help with editing articles when someone requests assistance
7. chat on live chat and help newcomers and reviewers with their review process
8. help with software development for authoring or reviewing articles, perhaps for the mobile platforms
9. chat with other contributors on audio or video chat
10. present notes about how Wikinews works at various conferences via audio and video communucations [as we don't have funds for travel at present] this can be linux, programming, journalistical, or wikimedia themed conferences
11. figure out how to get someone to do any of the above through a grant, sometimes google summer of code
12. find high school and university educators who would like to teach their class journalism by asking them to write articles for Wikinews (was done with in the past, and we have extension installed for marking students)
13. collaborate with Pharos on getting more news coverage of the New York City and adjacent areas
14. proofread, or read, Wikinews articles out loud for Audio Wikinews
15. make English Wikinews accounts on various social media like twitter, facebook, blue sky app (sp?), others [in consultation with someone on-wiki first] ensuring you're posting new news articles there with appropriate tags, moderate comments, and setup multiple moderators if possible and document which contributor is in charge of which social network account for Wikinews and how articles are being posted there

Please let me know which of these points you're most comfortable with, and/or would like to learn.

Which points would you like to contribute? Please name up to 3-5 points, if you like. Or suggest your own. :-)

I shot myself in the foot by relying too heavily on a source that I later discovered had an apparent paywall (only the first two days were free I guess). Hi, at my personal talk page at Wikipedia there is a user script, which may be copy pasted to Special:MyPage/common.js, that adds a new button in the editor: it prompts for an URL, generates a filled source template for it, and copies it to clipboard. It reliably inserts the source title at least 🤣 In many, but not all, cases it also gets the publisher and date -- though not always in the right "April 22, 2025" format -- properly, too. Works in 'Source editing' mode if it is the same toolbar as Visual Editor.

It adds a star icon. Clicking it prompts for the news URL, and then a few seconds alter it adds the filled source template at cursor position.

Note that date may be missing. Authors usually are missing. Publisher name isn't always correct (needs to be such that you can wikilink to wikipedia). So you need to check what it generated. But at least it gets title and date right 90% of the time for me and it makes writing easier.

The Wikimedia Foundation’s Sister Projects Task Force (SPTF) has issued a recommendation to close Wikinews. A community response to the Task Force is underway and I believe it's critical that we show clear support from contributors, reviewers, and administrators if we want Wikinews to remain open.

If you believe Wikinews still has potential for revitalization and should remain active, I ask that you:

First step is ensuring you now see the "Review" action in the top-right of your browser when you view articles in the review queue. Once you click on "Review" for an article, you should now see an interface that allows you to select options via drop-down menus for the five areas we review. All of those drop-downs must be "pass" for the article to pass. Otherwise the gadget will label the article 'not ready.'

Exactly - and the fact that no one was doing the reviews certainly puts out the message - whether true or not - that the reviewers care less about this project than the ones submitting the articles. This is made worse by the fact that there may be more reviewers than article contributors at this point. Regardless, we really needed a short term solution here, and no one was interested (actually, some WERE interested, but it got obfuscated away. Some people even claimed you supported the status quo!) With EzPR 2025, we can do partial reviews. So you could start a review and when you get to a point where you want help, you can save the partial review and tag another reviewer for a hand (I'd be happy to help).

Also, if the review process is daunting enough to keep you from doing the review, I think it would help everyone if you could articulate what is holding you back. It could be that the same thing is impacting other reviewers and it should therefore be changed.

It should show up in the Tools menu, the same place EzPR shows up (for me, they are stacked on top of each other in the right-hand sidebar). If you view an article marked for review, you should see "Review (EPRv2)" in your Tools. That's it.

As a reviewer, you should have access to Scoop so that you can receive OR material. Gryllida manages the email server and should be able to set up an account for you. If you haven't done so already, you should reach out and request an account. It might be a while before you're comfortable reviewing OR, and that's okay. It is a bit of a different beast. For scoop account username: it is not the same as your wiki login; unfortunately the email server was not setup for OAuth login. Usually, but not always, it's the legal first name and last name, to make the request more professional in the case you might need to contact one of the OR involved parties to confirm some information; one of the reviewers uses just their first name only for the username and one used their wiki nick.
