Welcome[edit]

Welcome to Wikinews

A nice cup of coffee for you while you get started

Getting started as a contributor
How to write an article
  1. Pick something current?
  2. Use two independent sources?
  3. Read your sources before writing the story in your own words?. Do choose a unique title? before you start.
  4. Follow Wikinews' structure? for articles, answering as many of who what when where why and how? as you can; summarised in a short, two- or three-sentence opening paragraph. Once complete, your article must be three or more paragraphs.
  5. If you need help, you can add {{helpme}} to your talkpage, along with a question, or alternatively, just ask?

  • Use this tab to enter your title and get a basic article template.
[RECOMMENDED. Starts your article through the semi-automated {{develop}}—>{{review}}—>{{publish}} collaboration process.]

Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally.
As you get more involved, you will need to look into key project policies and other discussions you can participate in; so, keep this message on this page and refer to the other links in it when you want to learn more, or have any problems.

All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.

Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere.

The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing.

Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly.

The core policies
Places to go, people to meet

Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion.

There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Use the following box to help you create your first article. Simply type in a title to your story and press "Create page". Then start typing text to your story into the new box that will come up. When you're done, press "save page". That's all there is to it!

It is recommended you read the article guide before starting. Also make sure to check the list of recently created articles to see if your story hasn't already been reported upon.

India Launches CYPAD place?[edit]

Hello Wikiexpert1234567

1) It would be great to include the place of the ceremony in the first paragraph.

2) We can not copy any passages from sources, please rewrite the second sentence in the first paragraph.

Again please let me know if you need any help. --Gryllida (talk) 09:48, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Did you save your edit?[edit]

At India Launches CYPAD none of the problems raised above have been addressed, this is really not appropriate to publish the article in its present form. Please address these problems and ensure the edit is fully saved so that others can see what you have changed. --Gryllida (talk) 05:18, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

YES JUST DID THAT.. PLEASE CHECK ONCE MORE.. THANKS
Thank you Wikiexpert1234567 :)
I think the formatting improved a lot, I fixed the sources formatting now for you.
Could you please rewrite the first paragraph in your own words and add the place. I think this is required for publication.
--Gryllida (talk) 09:57, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

The page has been moved already right? Please check..

Hi Wikiexpert1234567 :-)

Can you please write the article contents in the past tense instead of the present? I think this is required for publication.

Lack of freshness[edit]

I think the main event here is "US Bank JP Morgan lauches a cryptocurrency, JPM Coin, for the first time in US". This seems to have happened on February 14? If so, this news is now no longer fresh -- over a week ago. I'm not sure what to do here, perhaps a refresh is possible, but only if a more recent event occurs. I hope I am not mistaken here in this assessment of dates.

As a tip, when writing a news article, I'd suggest to check the "what, when" as a first step. --Gryllida (talk) 02:53, 22 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ok.
Should I drop the article?
If you can't find any fresh developments like something related happening more recently, I guess that is a yes. Alternatively you could do an interview if you are very interested in this particular topic (list what questions to ask in that case), otherwise creating a new story may be a bit easier Gryllida (talk) 07:31, 22 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Why don't you write an article about the summit at the Vatican over sex abuse, the ID of Alesha MacPhail's murderer being revealed or John Mcdonnel saying labour is 'moving towards' a second referendum on Brexit? Qwerty number1 (talk) 17:30, 22 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Some concerns from the previous review were addressed. However, substantial problems remain. It looks as if there may not be time remaining in which to address these; news is like that — it's been remarked that publishing an article on Wikinews is like creating a Wikipedia article from scratch and bringing it up to good article status within a period of no more than one or two days; our techniques for streamlining things do help a great deal, and it gets much easier once you get the hang of it, but it can take some practice to get used to, at first. See my review comments. --Pi zero (talk) 19:43, 22 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Timing[edit]

Re India launches Cyber Protection, Awareness and Detection Center in Dwarka

Did you submit it to review by mistake?? Could you please unsubmit as I think the event happened over a week ago

Re: JPM Coin Expanding to 220 Banks for Payments[edit]

Hi Wikiexpert1234567!

Where did you learn about this story? Was it in one of these sources?

Could you please clarify this. And write one paragraph answering the who, what, where, when, why, and how. Let me know if you need any assistance.

To reply please click here.

Question[edit]

Hi Gryllida, Hi, Yes I found out from these and more related articles Who: JP Morgan Chase Bank getting into crypto and blockchain. Sources New York Times, Bloomberg, FT, etc What: Blockchain technology and ironic move by JP Morgan and Jamie Dimon Where: US When and How: JPM Coin was announced earlier this year but the follow up expansion plan was announced yesterday. Source FT Bloomberg and CNBC

Thanks Hope things are fine and in place. If you think improvements are required, please let me know. Sid

--Wikiexpert1234567 (talk) 00:40, 23 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Cool, thanks. I think as Pi zero said in his review, you should add the date 'yesterday' and a description of how and who announced the expansion plan into the first paragraph. Gryllida (talk) 04:23, 23 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
In the previous message I've suggested that the first paragraph needs improvements. Do you plan to work on it, Wikiexpert1234567? Gryllida (talk) 00:38, 24 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
