Welcome to Wikinews

A nice cup of coffee for you while you get started

Getting started as a contributor
How to write an article
  1. Pick something current?
  2. Use two independent sources?
  3. Read your sources before writing the story in your own words?. Do choose a unique title? before you start.
  4. Follow Wikinews' structure? for articles, answering as many of who what when where why and how? as you can; summarised in a short, two- or three-sentence opening paragraph. Once complete, your article must be three or more paragraphs.
  5. If you need help, you can add {{helpme}} to your talkpage, along with a question, or alternatively, just ask?

  • Use this tab to enter your title and get a basic article template.
[RECOMMENDED. Starts your article through the semi-automated {{develop}}—>{{review}}—>{{publish}} collaboration process.]

Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally.
As you get more involved, you will need to look into key project policies and other discussions you can participate in; so, keep this message on this page and refer to the other links in it when you want to learn more, or have any problems.

All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.

Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere.

The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing.

Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly.

The core policies
Places to go, people to meet

Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion.

There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Should this user be unblocked?

Cromium has reviewed 2006nishan178713's request to be unblocked, and the result was approved. The reason given by Cromium was: Apoears to have tripped a filter by accident. Attempted edit appears a legitimate draft article..
You should now be able to edit pages as normal.

Your account is blocked on English Wikipedia. Ordinarily this would not be relevant to editing here but it is useful to mention such things up front when asking for an unblock. [24Cr][talk] 22:33, 17 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for helping me out. I had mistakenly done a copyright violation in one of my articles so I got partially blocked 2006nishan178713 (talk) 04:01, 18 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Well, to that end....distancing our articles from source material does take a bit of patience and tenacity. Keep at it!--Bddpaux (talk) 22:34, 19 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
True indeed 2006nishan178713 (talk) 12:31, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Well........

for starters: You are a registered user here. You are 100% welcome to report on Nigeria-related news. Go for it! What exactly are you not understanding? Do you need help understanding how a wiki operates? I think you've had some articles published here........so, just keep writing and submitting. But: don't plagiarize. If you write synthesis articles, you can't steal wording verbatim for other people's work. --Bddpaux (talk) 03:43, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

....and one more thing: when you write something on someone's Talk page, sign off with at least 3 Tildes (~); you can even use 4 Tildes. It adds your handle to the entry.--Bddpaux (talk) 03:44, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
You mistook me for the Nigerian guy. The Nigerian guy did not sign his message. I am not him.
😂😂 Cheers! 2006nishan178713 (talk) 03:44, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I think I get it now........

You actually haven't had an article published here. I'd help, but I'm just a bit too busy at the moment.--Bddpaux (talk) 03:46, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's ok. @LivelyRatification is helping me out. 2006nishan178713 (talk) 03:47, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello. This draft has unfortunately passed its expiry date. However, it is a very significant mission with an expected date range and almost certainly will be covered by major news outlets. I’ve moved the draft to our holding area and hopefully we can use it as a case fir a fresh article in the next few months. Feel free to update it whenever you can. Closer to the expected crash date, we can have a discussion on how to approach the article publication. Thank you for your contributions. [24Cr][talk] 13:58, 29 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the impact date is not yet confirmed. It is expected to impact between Sept 26, and Oct 2, 2022. I will surely work further on this article if there are any major developments. 2006nishan178713 (talk) 15:33, 29 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

User talk:Sawrekhan#Please don't create disruptive pages

Those are some unnecessarily strong accusations of disruption. We don't *know* which Imran Khan the user means. It is possible it is just a hoax and they are messing with friends, or it is also possible that is real, could be a mayor of some city, who is also called Imran Khan who died -- how about you let them have some time to go and work on it? It is possible they do write an article, or it is possible, they don't edit the wiki after that edit. But such accusations do come out as rude and while I appreciate you pointing them to the SG, let users have a chance to do something.
•–• 13:54, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I was a bit rude there. But, searching for the topic in the internet doesn't give any appropriate results.
Here is a glass of Thandai for you Be Cool!!
Also looking at the account contributions, the account was created at 1146hrs UTC and was only used for creating Imran khan. Seems like a hoax to me but time must be given to see if anymore contributions is done by the author. wink Thanks 2006nishan178713 (talk) 15:05, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
There are times, stories are not yet written about, on the internet -- takes even more, if it is ocal news. You will see people make article like these, and even though it is good chance they are just fooling around, sometimes, they end up staying and contributing. Sometimes the articles which look silly are actually news articles. We don't want to make assumptions, neither good nor bad -- we must be skeptical, but at the same time, we don't want to chase away people saying those things. Point out to them, the guidelines, and if possible, ask who is this person in question and if they can cite sources, and that way, we have some real shot of making things possible. •–• 05:19, 1 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to have to concur with acagastya here on this one:You are learning the ropes here. Personally, I think you admonishing other users might serve to derail you from learning the ropes around here. I think you have excellent potential. Stay with it!--Bddpaux (talk) 02:48, 6 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Just curious

What is your larger intention with this article? New COVID-19 variant 'Omicron' spreads across the globe --Bddpaux (talk) 16:41, 10 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

I am giving my exams currently. I will try to update it with current information after the exams, which will get over tomorrow. Also, some more restructuring is required. That's why I have put the develop tag. Regards! 2006nishan178713 (talk) 17:12, 10 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
It would be helpful if you could give me some ideas about changing the article. 2006nishan178713 (talk) 17:12, 10 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Article improvement

Hi you have reviewed my article thanks for that but you haven't mention what improvements i have to do From a medical student to developer of First Podcast App of Kashmir "Aao Unhe Yaad Karai"

--Aroojakhan (talk) 15:51, 18 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for asking.
The improvements you need to do are-
  • Dividing the paragraphs
  • Follow the WN:PYRAMID policy (following this will help you arrange the information and put some context)
Clarifying, I am not a reviewer in Wikinews, I am just an experienced contributor. Honestly speaking, when your article will get reviewed, it might get rejected as Wikinews serves an international audience and the above topic seems to be based on a region and might not affect any other person around the world.
For starters, you can write some global news which is currently popular. This increases the chances of your article getting published. You can see the already published articles for some reference and help. You can refer to Google News, a collective news service for some suggestions on what article to write.
You can ping me for any further help!!

User talk:Stefan S Damnjanovic#Talk:Applied Sciences

Although your concern towards the article is valid, the way you worded your comments displays hints of a patronising tone. Saying such things as 'Given that you are new here' can lead the user to think that their edits and presence are unwanted. Phrases of this kind are used in common situations as a way to highlight one's ignorance and incompetence in a passive-aggressive manner, though this probably was not your intention. Simply saying that Wikinews does not accept encyclopedic entries would suffice, citing What Wikinews is not. Remember that Wikinews relies on volunteers to exist, and that you are also a volunteer. I ask of you to refrain from using such tones, phrases and vocabulary as these methods scare off new contributors that may be valuable additions to the project and that a situation of this kind involving you and a new user is not the first. Everyone needs to start somewhere and makes mistakes, as you may understand. If you have any questions ask them here or on my talk page. Henrymyman (talk) 18:14, 26 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that! I will take care of it. 2006nishan178713 (talk) 18:17, 26 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
I forgot to add this, but a quick review of Wikinews:Etiquette and Wikinews:What Wikinews is not may be useful to you. Henrymyman (talk) 18:19, 26 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
