[edit]TheCustomOfLife, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Dan100 (Talk) 14:17, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Portal:Canada leads
[edit]2nd lead change in Portal:Canada seems OK to me. Hopefully all this improves the topicality of the national portal. Thx. DL+1613 03:33, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Redirect or ?
[edit]Hello, TheCustomOfLife. You have a prep file off your user page that redirects eventually to the Andrea Muizelaar article. Would you like it deleted now, or is there a need to leave the redirect? Cheers, Jcart1534 04:26, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
leads
[edit]Comments here you may like to respond to. Thanks --MarkTalk to me 10:39, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, wasn´t clear on that
[edit]I´m sorry, I didn´t realize it would be normal to inform you. Brian had left me a message a few days ago saying I should put my next story on second lead, so I reckoned it would be OK. I´ll try to communicate with the previous authors before I do something similiar again. Sean Heron 10:41, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- Replied on your page. I don't mind being bold, but I would have just liked to know so I could have made plans to move my article as well. TheCustomOfLife 11:15, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Jessica Sierra
[edit]Any word with that picture? It could be awkward, as looking closer it seems she could be God-knows-where due to her rehab. Would you prefer I just asked Verge to supply us a publicity image? Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 16:18, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, I get like that in the real world sometimes, only quite badly, and the only remedy is to just take a break. I'll send them a message when I stop doing the van Canto questions. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 18:59, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Helping
[edit]I am helping this website as I have just created two articles. Don't refer to me as a troll, I understand that civility is not policy here, but being mean to people is just not right. Thank you.--Uga Man - (talk) 23:03, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Wikinews Editorials
[edit]Hello. You asked to be included on the discussion about Wikinews Editorials. I have begun such discussion here: Please feel free to comment. --David Shankbone - (talk) 16:35, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Operette / operetta
[edit]Hi Mike, thanks for reviewing my contribution, Operetta is actually not only German, but also Dutch. And that is my primary language... But I'm learning... :D regards, Theo Assen - (talk) 09:08, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Raus
[edit]Raus is an abbreviation of the German word "Heraus", which would be translated as "Out". In WWII in Germany there was a kind of slogan among the nazis: "Juden Raus!" meaning "Jewish people out!". Theo Assen - (talk) 09:12, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- I noticed your addition. Thanks, I will try to remember for the future to translate where necessary. Theo Assen - (talk) 09:17, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
help needed
[edit]Maybe I can ask for your help again: I put the story on Heesters on Portal:Netherlands since there was an ancient story there. Would you please check the contribution? Thanks in advance. Also: I uploaded the picture from the English Wikipedia, with the same description. Is that ok? Theo Assen - (talk) 09:50, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
RE: Leads
[edit]The current system is causing the word third lead item to be split across the screen. It starts on the right, under lead 2, but the last portion of the lead appears on the left hand side, under the first lead item. It is definately not a design feature. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 12:21, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
You oppose of "maybe in a few weeks time and an OR piece". I just wanted to make sure that you've seen the 2 OR articles he has written here?
- Half of life could go extinct by century's end, warn eminent biologists
- Protesters demonstrate at US Coast Guard Academy
--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 14:05, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Wow that's quite strict, I don't know if myself or other less active accredited reporters meet those criteria all the time... Anyway thanks for clearing that up, I'll close his AR as unsuccessful. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 14:19, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

September? Really?
[edit]Sorry to be a stickler, but your September 2007 contributions seem to be to talk and comments pages, and there are only three of them. --SVTCobra 04:42, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- I started planning different interviews in September, even if I didn't actually put them into practice. People in chat can vouch that I started there in September as well. Speaking of, how come you don't come to chat? TheCustomOfLife - (talk) 04:45, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you already know how that goes. I just end up asking you to set up dates for me with former Top Model contestants. By the way, Andrea Muizelaar never called. --SVTCobra 04:55, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi
[edit]That was me on Wikipedia IRC until my browser crashed --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) 07:17, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- Now you have to believe me. --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) 07:18, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
- I do now. It was just weird seeing you in #wikipedia and with another number at the end of your name. TheCustomOfLife - (talk) 07:54, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
