Talk:Thousands march in anti-Brexit protest, London
Add topicOR Notes
[edit]I did go to the march, living in London and having a spare day, as a reporter. I copied out the following discussions I had with people. (\ means 'Hi, I am •my name •, a reporter who is planning on writing a report on this march. I was wondering if I could interview you?). M=me and P=protestor
- Man, 43, John (London)
M; \ P= Ok. M= Thanks, what made you come here today? P= I came here, since I want to defend my children's right to live and work in Europe. M= Ok, what do you hope will come of this march? P=I hope the politicians will notice us, and listen to us and what we, the people want. M= Thanks for your time! P=You're welcome! Qwerty number1 (talk) 21:38, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
I then met Jasmine, 19 (London)
M; \ P= Sure, fine. M= Why did you choose to come on the march? P= I wanted to secure my right to work in the EU. Since I, and many other young people, could not vote in the referendum, we feel we are underrepresented. We feel this is our only way of getting our voice heard. M= What would you say to people who say the people voted for this? P= I would say 'we have changed our mind'. People do not have to stay the same; why would we have elections every four year if people never changed their minds then? Qwerty number1 (talk) 21:43, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
I also asked another man, who wished not to speak to me. Qwerty number1 (talk) 21:44, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
Another protester (Male, early/mid 50s) told me 'I do not want to be interviewed, but will tell you that they must stop ignoring us'. Qwerty number1 (talk) 21:47, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
Boy, 17 (and 1/2) (London) M; \ P; okay M; what, if there is just one thing we gain from this, do you want. P; perhaps this is two, but I want the government to listen to us and give us a people's vote! M; Thanks for your time! P; Thanks!
Woman, 61 (London) M / P okay, my name is Margaret! M Thanks, what do you hope will happen because of this march? P I hope Theresa {May} will finally listen to us and, democratically, give us a say in the form of a People's Vote. M Ok, thanks. P You're welcome and good look with the report. Long live Europe!
- @Qwerty number1: How did you record/copy these? --Pi zero (talk) 18:14, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Pi zero: I wrote (using a clipboard) the interviews on a piece of paper. I chose not to use recordings, because I was worried the noise would make them too hard to hear. If you want, I could take a picture and attempt to send it to, oh who was it?, er... Something@Wikinewsie.org?
Hope this is useful, Qwerty number1 (talk) 20:44, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- (Sorry for slow reply, 6pm only yesterday!20:56, 25 March 2019 (UTC))
- @Qwerty number1: In this situation, I would encourage but not require emailing a pic of the notes to scoop (that's "scoop at wikinewsie dot org"). This is because on one hand, we encourage slathering plenty of documentation all over these things, while on the other hand, one of our prominent original reporters has said in no uncertain terms they don't wish to share their handwriting and would not be okay if scanning handwritten notes were to become a de facto requirement.
These on-wiki notes, btw, are good to have regardless of whether such a thing is sent to scoop. --Pi zero (talk) 21:22, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

[edit]This thing looks really good, Qwerty. Way to take initiative. Darkfrog24 (talk) 20:39, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
Images
[edit]This is a nice image. There's tons more at Flickr, but their licencing is poor; I've requested the authors to adjust it as desired (list of photos where I requested a free licence). Hope to hear back from them soon. --Gryllida (talk) 00:42, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
- Some of them responded. Added some more images into the article and formatted them as a gallery. Gryllida (talk) 10:41, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
Background
[edit]The BBC just did a relatively thorough article summarizing Brexit. I think the bits I have added are suitable for publication but I do not mind if anyone wants to add or remove anything. The article is a good resource, but it does NOT say that many young people didn't bother to participate in the 2016 vote, that being why it passed. For that, another source would be needed. Title
[edit]How might people feel about changing the title of this to read "anti-Brexit protest"? Having the word "march" in there twice feels weird and tautological. 184.176.98.181 (talk) 19:22, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
- I like this suggestion. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:55, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for implementing it. Gryllida (talk) 20:20, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

[edit]{{editprotected}} Please replace the right top image with {{missing image}} as it was deleted from Commons. Heavy Water (talk) 00:30, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- Done but {{missing image}} doesn't work within gallery pages. It was designed for single images only. Anyway, applying the template within the gallery removed the "blank" image. SVTCobra 18:09, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
