Hi DragonFire1024. I wanted to edit this article, but it's protected. Can you edit it for me?

Here is what I need done: Tag can be removed. Doing a bit of cleanup.

Thanks. Calebrw (talk) 16:47, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

No problem. Happy editing/writing :-) DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 01:34, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

I steered clear of that one, because it is so contentious as to what is actually happening. It will be interesting to see if we get a shit-storm of comments or an edit-war. Whatever happens, I doubt it will be silence. Cheers, --SVTCobra 01:41, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually i have another (general) question, which however is related to this article as well. What's the policy for extending/correcting an article after it has been published? Since I'm new to wikinews, I'd rather ask here before making directly any changes myself. All the changes/improvements made to my original text are ok, however there is 1 reformulation that is strictly speaking not correct. I described the problem on the talk page of the article. regards--Kmhkmh (talk) 12:47, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Style

Not that it matters much since it doesn't affect anything, but is putting Publish at the bottom the approved style? I didn't know that - will do it in the future if it's the "official" way. Sherurcij 02:22, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if its official, but its the style we have been using for as long as I can remember. I guess since everyone sees it at the bottom, it makes it easier to review I suppose. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:23, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough, cheers Sherurcij 02:24, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Either way, "self-publishing" is now a no-no, if not by policy, then by practice. --SVTCobra 02:25, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Well I don't know how OR can be "reviewed" other than C/E... DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:26, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Quelle surprise, zomg not good enough unless you photocopy your notes and send them to me! from an administrator -- can I repeat that this is a ludicrous policy for accredited users who have no history of problems? What's the point of sending reporters out to locations if everything has to be bottlenecked through two or three administrators anyways? You can phone the family, you can phone the court, either of them will confirm a WN reporter named Joshua was there - both will also confirm I am somewhat regular in attendance at these things. Can I ask if there's anything realistically halting the article from production? I'm out of town from now till the weekend, so solving this over the next twenty minutes would be appreciated. It'd be somewhat foolish to wait a week to report the news, when thusfar WN would be one of the very first to report this. Sherurcij 02:30, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Well what you said above are good notes...minus the other stuff. I tend to agree with you though. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:32, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
It's insane that a rant counts as "notes", but I'll copy it to the talk page and change it back to Publish-status; there's absolutely no reason "self-publishing OR" is a no-no, especially now that we're using the "stable versions" idea (which seems like a great idea, this'll be my first experience with it - but I'm hopeful (speaking of which, I assume you're on the list of reviewers who can push it through?) Sherurcij 02:34, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Yes...assuming that it/they (articles) meets standards. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:40, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
I fixed the only error I saw, an unclear pronoun leading into a paragraph; if there's anything beyond that, please let me know in the next 5-10 minutes so I can see it published before I head off. Sherurcij 02:41, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
  • To logged-out users at least, it's still displaying the {{develop}} tag -- I assume this is related somehow to the stable versions? I promise I'm almost done nagging ;) But four days of my time, plus two days writing -- I figure I can bug you for ten minutes :P Sherurcij 02:54, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
I am not sure what that mean. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:57, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
I did some reviewing...check now. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:58, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Excellent, thank you. I will now retreat back to my Fortress of Solitude where I am the only king with which I must deal ;) Thanks for the patience, hopefully we can sort out future issues as easily. Accredition should grant a certain amount of independence to reporters (especially since we're not even allowed to call ourselves WN reporters...) on their articles, even if that means tightening up the policy on accredition. Sherurcij 03:03, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

4:th lead

I see you working with the leads. Suggesting Former Georgian Minister accuses Saakashvili of war mongering to be 4:th lead as great effort from many wikinewsies made it to a good article. I cant edit the leads of some reason as they is semiprotected. international (talk) 19:57, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Or perhaps making that one the third lead and this one the fourth, US Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones dies at age 58. The Mind's Eye (talk) 20:16, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good to. international (talk) 20:21, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Guys keeps adding to old story

Could you deal with this guy, or archive the page or something: Ceasefire signed in Georgian-Russian conflict. I can't revert anymore without breaking the three revert rule. Gopher65talk 19:44, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Hiya

Haven't talked to you in a while - what's up? Thunderhead 20:03, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Nothing exciting really...Hot weather here and trying to keep WN updated. The usual stuff :) DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 20:04, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Same here, it's getting better though. Been raining a lot here. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things here. Missed it! Thunderhead 20:05, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Been hot, humid and hazy here. Yeah I am trying to get back into things too as during the week I don't have a lot of time for WN. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 20:07, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Review: a new thing?

I do a lot of mostly grammar, punctuation, or syntax edits, (sometimes under 209.137.182.35) and this is the first time I noticed the "draft" thing, where the edits have to be verified by an "established user" before being published. Is this a new thing, or am I just completely out of the loop? Keep up the good work! Matt White (talk) 18:03, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

You are correct in that this is a new thing. This is an attempt to have an editorial process. Some users, trusted regular contributers have tools which allow them to "flag" revisions in the history, that are legit edits. The review process if so that an article can pass certain criteria before publish...example: Is it newsworthy? Are the links correct? Is the information factual? When tagged with review, that tells the selected editors/reviewers that its ready for editorial review to check those things and move it to publish. Here is our draft olicy on this. Please note that is is not finished. Wikinews:Reviewing articles. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 18:10, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Pastor article.

You have a revision to your article, but I wanted you to accept it before I flagged it as reviewed. —Calebrw (talk) 15:09, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Georgia article.

I agree that with the other person. Those issues should be addressed in depth before returning to publish status. —Calebrw (talk) 17:58, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

The facts cannot be changed. Look at his speech and compare to the revision as of July 24 and onward. Whats there is there, and the facts are not disputable. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 18:00, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the welcome. I'm hoping to become a somewhat semi editor here. I've been using wikipedia for awhile and thought wikinews might be interesting to work on. This is first wiki that I've used that has flagged revisions, so I'm wondering how I could get bumped up to editor status? Thanks again for the welcome --PatrickFlaherty (talk) 02:03, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Just become an established user. Write some news articles, get to know the place and what not. At the moment its really experimental. Here is a start to explain it in a nut shell: Wikinews:Flagged revisions. Happy editing, and don't hesitate to ask for help. :-} DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:07, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Wiknews reports entry

I'm not sure who is in charge of the Wikinews reports. I fixed some grammatical and style issues on the campaign editing article. They should possibly get imported over to http://wikinewsreports.blogspot.com/2008/08/staffs-for-us-presidential-candidates.html . JoshuaZ (talk) 17:31, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

HMCS Toronto in Operation NANOOK

Hello there. Thank you for your review of the article Talk:HMCS Toronto in Arctic which has moved to Operation NANOOK 2008 travels through uncharted waters. Did I pin a better title, and intro on the article? I'm very much a newbie...This is my second news article, and my first was a collaboration effort between several folks. Asia Earthquakes

Hi. As you can see I'm a new wikinews user (long time wikipedia user). I'm doing my best with the earthquake article but I'm probably not following all the rules. Any help you can offer would be much appreciated. Many Thanks. Abc30 (talk) 01:25, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

No worries about the edit conflict. Thank you! :) Abc30 (talk) 01:56, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Why did you revert all of my edit when part of it was correct? XxJoshuaxX (talk) 19:03, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

I should have changed the picture back instead of an undo. My mistake. But the image tells it all. Vandals don't deserve pretty and nice calming images. Especially if they are regular vandals. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 22:39, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

I can understand about not giving them nice things. However, the template says at the bottom "Please contribute to Wikinews in a constructive fashion instead.". If we want to encourage them to do that,we shouldn't scare them away at the same time by using an intimidating image. XxJoshuaxX (talk) 15:56, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
