Hello, I understand that there are some issues on the article, but I don't believe that is any copyright violation. Also I think i fixed the POV issue. Thanks, -- Cocoaguy (talk) 21:27, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

## Climate contrarians in Copenhagen

Please join the discussion, if you can do it attentively, if you have some free 30 minutes?

I'm just afraid that this novice user Wikiwide, the author of the article, being probably a scientist (you just look at the first version of this article), has a very little understanding of what Wikinews is. And probably has lots of other work to do, is not interested, etc. Even the topic of climate contrarians near UNCCC sounds scientific, doesn't it? I think that if you revive this article, it will be very good

## Today's quiz

Hi Sandman, due to an unfortunate error in this week's quiz one of the answers was wrong. Just a heads-up, please take a look at Wikinews talk:World News Quiz and adjust your score if necessary. Sorry. Tempodivalse [talk] 03:16, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

## UK Wikinews Shorts: December 23, 2009

Can you please change the date to December 22, 2009 in the title? Thanks, Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 15:32, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to have to ask you this, but can you please change "Wikinews Shorts:December 24, 2009" to "UK Wikinews Shorts: December 24, 2009"? It's just that I wasn't sure if all the articles that I would be writing about in this would be UK based. --Rayboy8 (my talk) (my contributions) 20:38, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

## re. Water cooler

Regarding [1] = Sorry if I irritated you. I just though displaying the image defaced the water cooler page too much, and would be better provided as a link. I wasn't sure whether to sign it or not since it wasn't really a comment. Tempodivalse [talk] 22:40, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

It's no big issue. I know you weren't trying to irk me so I don't mind, but it did a little bit. I deliberatly picked what seemed at first glance to be at the more extreme end of Commons since thats the most controversial aspect. Maybe just not sign at all? Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 22:43, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, no sig might be best. Also, if it's okay, I'll change the image caption since the issue is not to censor, but rather to provide warnings for instead. Cheers, Tempodivalse [talk] 22:50, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
• It would have made the point more quickly if the image had not been obfuscated. It is the perfect illustration for [[Untreated syphilis among <country> women up <newsworthy> percent]]. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:47, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
• I truly despair at the "voice of tolerance and reason". --Brian McNeil / talk 23:14, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
• Some of it is to be despaired at ("Boobs! Ugh! I'm shocked!"), but to some extent it is an issue we probably needed to discuss. Not all of the community will have thought long and hard and seen a lot of the arguments already; I only have since censorship interests me to an extent. I remain confident the thread will help people realise the inherent problems with censorship. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 23:18, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
I thought the Wikipedia link I posted might clue people in a bit, perhaps it went unread. If a free press is to act as the "watchmen" then it is up to said free press to decide what is appropriate material to present to the public. And, as I assume you'd agree, that can involve challenging what is legal and illegal in certain parts of the world. Words, I would assert, should be legal anywhere as a basic human right – the sunshine-and-shit principle of free speech. Censorship through the law can be a troublesome area, there are those who will fight tooth and nail to include what they find offensive. I understand why the government got the IWF to add hate speech to the blacklist criteria – it helps recruit morons to their cause. Ironically, the images they might choose to use can be far more newsworthy in illustrating what they're about than simply pretending they don't exist. I do understand the sorta-prudish concerns; but, people need to do their own background research into this and reevaluate their own position. Not censored is not censored, I can't give them all the same education as got me taken off one of the English Wikipedia OTRS queues (I sent a Mohammed image removal complainant a link to Wikipedia is not censored with a footnote see Autofellatio. --Brian McNeil / talk 23:34, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
It's a while since the written word has made me burst out laughing, congratulations for achieving it there. Yes, I can agree there. I have long fancied being prosecuted for having a copy of Virgin Killer; while technically it breaches the law as written I am confident that rights law would provide an adequate defence, even if I did have to spend several years fighting and go to Strasbourg to do it. I was disappointed to see the Girls Aloud obscenity thing dropped, that was similarly looking like it would be an entertaining ass-whipping for the police and CPS. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 23:40, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Alas, the polite "go blow yourself" response to cries for censorship is likely lost on 99.9% of the victims. Those interested in that particular article are likely socially awkward male teens going through the latter stages of puberty. --Brian McNeil / talk 00:04, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

## Latest Icesave story

If you're still about can you review the latest Icesave story Alexandr and I worked on? There's an issue with the details around the previous use of the veto. It isn't 100% well-sourced - even on Wikipedia. But, I've seen mention of it in google news archive summaries. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:44, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I understand the failed review. At the time I first wrote the article I only knew of the US embassy closing. (Sorry for butting in here, BRS, but i couldn't resist answering a question.) The numbers indicate how many characters of text were added to or removed from the page. The number is green if that's the amount that was added, red (and negative) if it was the amount that was removed. Tempodivalse [talk] 16:09, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

While you may think the bot has "malfunctioned", it hasn't. The archive bot checks sigs for date/time stamps. If there are no comments in the last two weeks (Which there haven't been), it will archive it. So if you don't want it to archive something, I suggest you add a comment. ## Wp attitudes

I see that you are a multiwiki user. I've found that Wikipedia to be a very hostile place in terms of trying to keep useful stuff from being deleted, driving me nuts! - Stillwaterising (talk) 00:57, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Sorry you're having an emergency in your world. Thanks for the referral. - Stillwaterising (talk) 08:13, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm back from the emergency itself, but I'm leaving the notice up for the time being since I'll mostly be staying away from my computer. I'm only really active here and Wikipedia (admin on both, Arbcom here). Wikipedia is almost a dirty word here; the irony is that even though a typical 24 hours here would earn me a civility block in the Other Place, I find Wikinews to be a more relaxed, easier going project. Of course, with the community small here it helps that in any given argument you know who you're arguing with, and often have done for years. ## Civility

Do not make threats against me. Do not put words in my mouth. Keep this to arbitration. --Soy Rebelde (talk) 18:18, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

• You used that word; never mind that you set out to antagonize someone new to WN, that was just petty. I also could have lived with the other colorful language for the same reason; petty. However, a combination of these made it difficult and I proceeded to address it in a manner parallel to the offense and which follows protocol.
• Ultimately, the issue is: Are you the type of person that will allow this behavior to continue and do you understand what it means to be on the receiving end of it? The problem is, I think the answer to the latter part of that question is yes and consider it the very reason you did it in the first place.
• You should know a handful of your WN peers have your back and I'm pretty sure I've made some "Wikinemies" from what was nothing more than an intention to contribute a proposal at the watercooler. People are calling me a terrorist (via a headline no less), amongst other things; not to mention WN is now plagued with that word; as is my discussion page. I have not entertained the hazing or exposed myself to reading offensive material that took others time to write. You are not helping the issue and only contributing to a hazmat area.
• Wiki is a foundation open to everyone, that receives funding from donations and is meant to embrace and enhance the world. It is not a private club made up of exclusive members with organized underground network of rules.
• I would appreciate if from here forth, every communication between us regarding this issue be through higher means; or not, just don't be surprised if you do not receive any response. --Soy Rebelde (talk) 19:12, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

## Briefs

I contacted James Pain a while back but when he never replied I just decided to re-launch AW myself. I've rebuilt a lot of the infrastructure to make doing these easier and to spread out the responsibilities so that no one person feels like they need to do everything. Hopefully, in time, more people will want to take part. It would be great if you want to write briefs whenever you can. Don't worry if you can't do them all the time, just jump in whenever you want to and do as many or as few as you are comfortable doing. I have a Wikinews:Audio Wikinews/Workspace page set up for scheduling and on the discussion tab is where all the discussion takes place when making the show. Really, all that is needed is to sign up on the schedule and then as stories are posted on the discussion tab, just add "working" and your time stamp under the story. Once you have the brief written, just post the text under that. Thank you for your interest and I really look forward to having you on board! Turtlestack (talk) 20:22, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

## UK elections: Hung parliament, Cameron to negotiate with Liberal Democrats

I normally dislike pestering people to review articles like this, but ... any chance you could review - or get someone else to review - the above article, when you get a chance? I'd like to get this news out as quickly as possible while it's still fresh, and nobody on IRC is the least bit interested in publishing. ## Disagree with comment deletion

Hi Blood Red Sandman. I'd like to talk to you about this comments page that you deleted. It appears that the comment was mainly a criticism of Wikinews, which I think should be deleted only if it's extremely offensive or disruptive. To remove mild criticisms of our own website would seem to go against free speech (albeit limited) and the very purpose of the comments page, IMO. Without criticism we can never improve as a news source, and I think that comments such as the one you deleted should be kept. Thoughts? Benny the mascot (talk) 10:55, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

I disagree. No actual criticism was made. The aim of the game was to trigger an argument. Had they said "very bad website the layout is poor" that would be fine. They are merely causing trouble. They want a reaction, preferably upset people leaping to the defence - but they don't really care what reaction, so long as they get one. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 10:58, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

## Failed article about Obama and appointment

Just come here to rant really. I have had to correct basic stuff on just about every article up for review at the moment, from broken Wikilinks to incorrectly formatted and ordered dates via copyediting, adding infoboxes, adding categories to uncategorised articles up for priority review and a whole host of WN:SG no-nos. I shall point them this away next time someone complains that articles are not reviewed fast enough (especially when people insist on putting in 15 sources). End of rant. --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 12:47, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

## Just out of curiousity

Who conducted the Saville Inquiry? Was it really seated under Trimble? - 17:51, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

My apologies for poor phrasing. Under which government's auspices was the inquiry seated? That is, did the UK pay for this, or did NI? In the former case, then the UK released the report, which is what it appears to be in other sources. I'm only mildly curious as I assume there is little fact to be discernible in the entire fiasco, just spin. - 18:14, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
<chuckle> Or we could be forthright and state the United Kingdom allowed the report to be released... but that might be a bit too blunt. I'm actually surprised Cameron allowed it so soon, but will avoid drawing any conclusions from it. - 18:20, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Butting in is perfectly discourteous, rude, and inappropriate. Which is why I do it myself from time to time :). More seriously, I was mistaken in which part of my edits Joe was commenting on. I want an independant candidate to get in over there. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 17:19, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

## interviews

whats the policy on publishing interviews? H.R.H Sovereign King Bradley The Great, Autocrat of All Australia talk 11:06, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

If you interviewed someone, see WN:OR. Hope that helps while BRS is offline. --InfantGorilla (talk) 17:32, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
Basically what IG said. We are very strict on checking out the veracity of interviews and the like, though, until you build up a reputation. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 19:10, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

## David Reutimann wins 2010 NASCAR race in Joliet, Illinois

I fixed that one quote. I didn't see any more, so how is it now? It is also the first one of mine to have been failed. --Nascar1996 22:48, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

I am going to remove it. --Nascar1996 23:18, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

## RE: Actress Patricia Neal dies aged 84‎

You are right, i thought i was logged in but after doing the edits i found out that i wasn't logged in. by the way, what does "hide your IP" mean? -- 13:34, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

And it would be nice if you review this too, otherwise it may go stale. Flash floods kill over a hundred in India, 500 missing -- 13:36, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Okay, if you suggest so, do hide my IP and, of course, thanks. -- 13:38, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

## Downed Airplane

If you could, would you please re-review Former US Senator Ted Stevens and former NASA chief Sean O'Keefe aboard downed airplane? It seems ready to be okay'd, and definitely overcame all the issues you pointed out. Aido2002 (talk) 16:55, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

## Vandalism?

I didnt mean any harm i was just voicing my opinion thats all. --Sorcagei (talk) 21:13, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

## I would like my IP hidden

Hello. Yes, if you could, I'd like my IP hidden. Sometimes I forget to log in, so I edit with my IP by accident. Thanks, --Shankarnikhil88 (talk) 21:37, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

## William_Pietri

If memory serves he is one of the foundation employees doing work on flaggedRevs (Specifically I think he was involved with making it palatable to the picky en wikipedians). He was probably given temp reviewer so he could see how we use the extension over here. Just in case you were curious. Bawolff 20:58, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

## William Pietri

(show/hide) 20:21, 13 August 2010 Blood Red Sandman (Talk | contribs) changed group membership for User:William Pietri from Reviewers to (none) ‎ (Huh? WTF? Why does this random guy have Reviewer?)

Just to respond to that: I'm not sure, but my speculation would be that it's due to the contract he had with the Foundation. He was the project manager for the flagged revs deployment on English Wikipedia. Philippe (WMF) (talk) 01:00, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

err.... I just realized this was pointed out above. Philippe (WMF) (talk) 01:01, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Lol. Never mind :P Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 01:13, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
You really do spy on us don't you Philippe? :P. Bawolff 01:23, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
Hey, I like this project. It gets a little more of my attention than some others because I love the concept of citizen journalism. But "spy"? Such an ugly word... no, no spying here :) Philippe (WMF) (talk) 15:10, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
lol, don't worry, you're always welcome here. Bawolff 16:39, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Haha. And I was all set for Wikimedia Foundation staff member admits spying on volunteer contributors. :p Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 19:09, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Probably unnecessary to create that story... wouldn't it be easier to just use [[Category:Wikimedia Staffers who are nosy]]? Philippe (WMF) (talk) 19:35, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that works. I'll go get Diego to populate it with his bot. :p Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 19:47, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

## Flagged revs RFP

I don't know if this is intended, but you don't seem to have signed this edit. Kayau (talk · contribs) 13:56, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Why would I? Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 17:16, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
In Wikipedia the closing admin (or non-admin, in NACs' case) signs the decision. And Mikemoral signed the one down there too. Kayau (talk · contribs) 05:38, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
I saw no point in signing because I made no real comment, just a brief note recording the outcome. Tempo, I think, really sealed it as a trend for people to sign even these but I've never seen the point. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 11:22, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
