Here is a list of some of the articles I've done. I did most of the writing for some of these, but others were highly collaborative. Those listed are ones where I've started them and done a reasonable amount of the work. I do not list work on articles started by others unless all their contributions were removed. The list has not been consistently maintained, thus some articles may be missing.

“Healing / Psychic” Judge Floro had been consistently televised since 1999 regarding the case. More than 86 minutes of Philippine Television Documentary[29] had shown the great human interest and international / global focus on the story / administrative case (ordeal / longest suspension due to dwarf consultation).[30]

Welcome

Welcome to Wikinews

A nice cup of coffee for you while you get started

Getting started as a contributor
How to write an article
  1. Pick something current?
  2. Use two independent sources?
  3. Read your sources before writing the story in your own words?. Do choose a unique title? before you start.
  4. Follow Wikinews' structure? for articles, answering as many of who what when where why and how? as you can; summarised in a short, two- or three-sentence opening paragraph. Once complete, your article must be three or more paragraphs.
  5. If you need help, you can add {{helpme}} to your talkpage, along with a question, or alternatively, just ask?

  • Use this tab to enter your title and get a basic article template.
[RECOMMENDED. Starts your article through the semi-automated {{develop}}—>{{review}}—>{{publish}} collaboration process.]

Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally.
As you get more involved, you will need to look into key project policies and other discussions you can participate in; so, keep this message on this page and refer to the other links in it when you want to learn more, or have any problems.

All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.

Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere.

The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing.

Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly.

The core policies
Places to go, people to meet

Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion.

There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Thanks and can you help me go on, by adoption?[31] Regards.--Florentino Floro (talk) 05:44, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Wikinews doesn't really have a mentoring or adoption program, but I'd be happy to take a look at anything you try to contribute.
To some extent we do suffer the same issue as Wikipedia regarding begin sourced by third parties. Most of our content is synthesis articles derived by taking several other wire reports on a story and writing our own article which is hopefully more comprehensive. However, we do allow original research, but it is best to build a reputation for good articles before digging too deeply into this. For legal stuff there's a couple of us have accounts on the US courts' PACER system to dig up details when reporting. One other area of original reporting that might interest you is doing interviews.
Please don't report on yourself or your predictions. Many Wikinewsies are confirmed sceptics and you will find yourself in conflict if you do. --Brian McNeil / talk 07:41, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Oh, Sir. I never ever reported in Wikipedia English my predictions, since I contributed mostly on legal articles and Philippine related topics. If you have time, please view my first article here. BTW, in Wikipedia English, I heavily contributed to Thailand encyclopedic unfolding events. Thanks.--Florentino Floro (talk) 08:07, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
I've put some comments on the talk page of your article and renamed it to match the style guide. Numbers of 20 or less are spelled out. When it comes time to review it what may be problematic is having so many sources for a relatively short article. The reviewer has to read them all, so if there's any that duplicate information in others trim to whichever you consider the more authoritative. I also think the explanation of the street naming convention needs to go as it makes it difficult to read. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:34, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, sir. Thanks for the help. I hope that with the community collaboration, I will learn how to write well and I intend to write more top/most interesting news articles. Cheers.--Florentino Floro (talk) 07:55, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Please don't add the {{publish}} tag yourself, all articles must be independently reviewed. They will not appear on the front page until a peer review has been carried out and the article flagged as okay. Your first article requires some attention having failed a review on the style guidelines. There are comments on its collaboration page to help you bring it up to scratch. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:35, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your guidance, and sorry of the mistake. At least I had my first article published and updated by recent events. Cheers.--Florentino Floro (talk) 06:31, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello! Kamusta ka? Welcome to the English Wikinews. Mayroon ba kayo gamitin ang Wikipedia sa Tagalog? Mike Halterman (talk) 11:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Copyright

Please take care not to use the exact words or even the same general phrasing as your sources. This is how it appeared before I changed it:

  • Article: "The Northern Samar police provincial office has also formed "Task Force Mila" to investigate the killing as two local politicians offered a P100,000 bounty for any information leading to the capture of the suspects."
  • Source: "The police provincial office has formed a task force to handle the investigation of the murder as two local politicians raised a P100,000 reward for any information leading to the capture of the killers."

The phrasing isn't exactly the same, but it is too close for comfort.

Anyway, thanks for your effort in writing this article:). It was published today. Gopher65talk 02:35, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for you visit and concern. In my stint in Wikipedia English from July 2007 to November 22, 2008 (when I lost the battle against my very own co-Filipino-co-Ateneo de Manila editor-administrator, re: posting personal info on IP address, Mumbai, and other personal grievances unrelated to Wiki editing), I have had practically no problem with copyright policies. It is utterly different in Wiki English. I contributed several legal articles and 6,700 edits. I could edit 20-30 contributions a day in 7 hours. But here, I spend the whole day for just one news article.
Well, as beginner, barely a week, here, I deeply understand the worldwide UK, USA and Wiki copyright vio rules. As lawyer/judge, I really had a hard time, comprehending the reason and spirit of these rules plus jurisprudence on this. There are jurists who say that the rule of thumb, is 5-10% of the article published can be copied or quoted for research, etc. The goal of copy vio laws is to prevent commercial or infringement crimes which destroys a publishing business. Moreover, I deeply understand that editing by using "too close for comfort" copying or rephrasing is not good news reporting.
My continuing predicament however, is: journalists more often, than not, monopolize the use of the best words and phrases, depriving us Wiki editors from retrieving some better words from the thesaurus. To be candid, as lawyer (4 years law education) and A.B. philosophy, I never ever had enrolled in any communication or journalism subject. I was long invited in Wiki English to register here, but I delayed since I found Wiki English to be easier. As I try to read the tons of rules and policies here, on editing, it is like a nightmare; especially, when I desire to write a legal news article like my VERY FIRST dream legal news article "Eighth Filipino journalist killed this year". (I had created my dream article Extrajudicial killings and forced disappearances in the Philippines). ERGO, as shortcut to learn here, from scratch, I copied the style of published like articles. I hope, that since Wikinews is collaboration, you may, with deep KINDNESS, give some leeway to a poor jobless judge-lawyer, who, for sure, is trying his best to make Wikinews a better project for our learned sectors, inter alia. Cheers.--Florentino Floro (talk) 07:00, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
I think you're doing none too badly, so don't beat yourself up for a relatively minor criticism. It is obvious you put a good amount of effort into your contributions here. And, as you're still at it, I'm assuming you are getting a reasonable amount of satisfaction out of 'playing' here. You've been quite prolific since you first came over from Wikipedia, and most of your work goes beyond the minimum specified in the style guide as well as highlighting issues many people might miss.
One key point I've found since the review system came in (which I argued strongly for) is you have to keep the sources on your articles to a minimum. For my Thailand articles I may go through about 20-30 sources, but as I write a paragraph or two I will check which sources back the information and only cite them. --Brian McNeil / talk 16:49, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the help

Mea culpa. I know you would tell me this. I know I put so many sources. I am really nervous about copy vio. So, I wanted many sources to hide my newcomer groping into creating article, fearing copy vio, but at the same time, fearing a bad language, style and grammar. Like in this LA eerie massacre, I had a hard time about sources. The journalists keep on putting new facts. Like this ID thing. I put Msnb, well backed up, but ... Our Philippine Rules of Court are borrowed 70% from the Federal Rules of Service of California. Now, judicial notice is more than reliability. Courts must take notice of, and accept as evidence, newspaper reports, even tabloids. Why? Due to judicial policy; if a litigant desires to prove what James Hookway wrote in WSJ,[32] he does not need to bring him and be cross-examined in Court. Same with Msnbc, it says white, 250 lbs., etc. And we editors must be bound by that, except when there is gross error.
Sometimes, I get about 10 words from a source, and I could not erase that, since an editor failed my work due to no backing. I know that readers cannot eat so many sources. And this is the beauty of Wikinews collaboration. I think I CREATE, and the reviewers would be kind enough to correct and check plus pass instead of fail, since news must be fast.
I want to write articles which are not only breaking, but notable, in the sense that it is not just popular but one which can be outstanding in the year. Thanks for all your help, and since there is no adoption here, I hope that you will censor my works, I appreciate corrections, I want to learn. No pain, no gain.--Florentino Floro (talk) 11:19, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Wikilinks

Hi Florentino Floro. Just to let you know that we try and limit our links to Wikipedia. We try and not link everything just because it has a page. Countries and some people should be internal links rather then links to Wikipedia. Words for the sake of being words should not be linked. Keep up the great articles. Cheers, --PatrickFlaherty (talk) 07:25, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the concern and suggestion. Merry Christmas.--Florentino Floro (talk) 06:29, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

23 Australians arrested in global child porn network

See 23 Australians arrested in global child porn network

Please note that this article now has a substantial correction notice attached to it.

Given the circumstances, it was required that the article be corrected and the notice detail what was previously stated. This is not the normal way of dealing with things like this, but it was a serious error that could have been legally actionable. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:26, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for you message. I am deeply sorry for my mistake. I reviewed the whole thing, and searched why I mixed up things. I found that:
(My edit) "Retired former barrister, a Newham Victorian legal figure Neil James Williams QC, aged 74, was arrested by Australian Federal Police on October 22. Charged with six counts of sex with a minor girl, one of using a carriage service provider to view child pornography and two of possession of child pornography material, he appeared in the Bendigo's Magistrates' Court of Victoria and was released on granted bail, pending court hearing on March 4."
"Mr Lee appeared in Sydney's Central Local Court on Thursday, where he faced two child pornography charges and six child sex charges."[33]
So, I had put the Lee's sex charges upon the QCs. It's terrible especially, he is a legal figure. Don't really know why I had done this especially in a legal article. Merry Christmas!--Florentino Floro (talk) 09:27, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

On Writing

Happy New Year!

I just published your article on the Bangkok blaze, after a copyedit. There's a link to that on the article talk page, some of the grammar and tense consistency was a little awkward. Anyway, here are the three sources I use for Thailand news...

I always cite that last one as "Thai News Agency" for the author and MCOT for publisher. Often it is good to check where the publisher parameter in the {{source}} template lands you on Wikipedia. The one I'm always fixing is "BBC" to "BBC News Online"; that has a separate article in Wikipedia that focuses on news.bbc.co.uk.

Anyway, I know you're not working, but I assume you are not poverty stricken. I have a reading suggestion/recommendation. Stephen King's book, "On Writing". One of his key recommendations to aspiring writers is to read as much as you write, say an hour or two for each per day. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:29, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Please give an old, 56, years old jobless judge, who has not had a single subject in journalism more TIME

Thanks, and first of all, Good Luck and I wish you all the best this 2009! I deeply understand that you will have a hard time dealing with some of my works due to journalism, language and style problems. Despite my more than one year in Wiki English, Wikinews is so tough and difficult. But, I do understand from the policies, that, and with all due respect, unlike Wike En. this is collaboration. I can, with all honesty and workaholic, give HOURS, and all I ask is, that most of you who do have COMMAND in style and copyright, help me publish... that is why, in each talk page, I advertise, please help me publish. Well, I mean, like judges, they just pen decisions pro-forma, copy paste and just fill up the new parts for the new case. I mean, you can help me publish by instead of failing or just letting fly my bad works, to just correct the same, never mine if there are 10 errors, for IN TIME, they will diminish. Mathematically, I can give 7 hours a day, to create, develop and put to review. I know that many editors-reviewers here will be annoyed by my often bad style and copy pastes. But they and you will only need 30 minutes or an hour to publish some of my bad works.
In a capsule, or nutshell, we Filipinos have a saying: a bamboo if young, can still be corrected, but if grows older, it can't. I am not a negative thinker, but, please understand that legal language and this Wikinews stuff style and copyright are miles apart. I need your patience and guidance, since as you said, there is no adoption, here. At the very least, I had been part of your lives, this is something personal, we cannot get from the streets or books. Good luck again.--Florentino Floro (talk) 11:44, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Keep up the good work

I, Brian McNeil, award you this cub reporter trophy for striving to produce comprehensive and detailed reports on a wide-ranging variety of news topics.

You should really have got this instead of the Newcomer award. Might be time to scale back other aspects of your User Page and add an awards section - I somehow suspect you'll get up to the next award level fairly quickly. --Brian McNeil / talk 11:37, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

6 January 2009 - 14 February 2010: Earth Ox

Thanks for the message. I think, I had discussed this, but I can't find my thoughts, maybe, I failed to upload my comment on this matter. During the development and pre-review, I used earth (elemental) ox based on Wki En.[35]. I think I had suggested that technically speaking the year of the Ox starts on January 26. I cannot miss this date, since this is the birthday of my brother Robert, we await this. So, I am really sad that I had pushed the limit of the Chinese calendar backwards just because I love images, you know, as I stated since 1975, I am a failed Nikon photo dreamer. Lawyer-judge is not my ambition but race horse jockey and photo.
But suffice it to say, that, since this is English Wiki, then, I pondered that though the Ox starts on 26, but vis-a-vis the Gregorian Calendar and Wiki calendar of Jan. 1, earth ox can be merged with Jan. 1, since it is just 25 days. I know this is a big fallacy and no logic will accept this. I am sorry for my very far-fetched stretching of the Ox to Jan. 1. Here in the Philippines Chinese new year is celebrated in China Town on the Chinese date. Cheers.--Florentino Floro (talk) 07:41, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Pinoy blogger-Manila Bulletin copyright case

Not sure if it has already been reported here, but you might want to make an article on this. It's also been covered in other sources, but these three are the ones I have at hand. [36] [37] [38] . 125.60.159.198 05:52, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Can't pass the review due to late news

This is a very good story and travesty of Justice. But Wikinews has reviewers and according to style guide, it must be newsworthy, that is, updated with January 4-5, sources. This can be created in Wikipedia English as STUB, you can propose it in Tambayan there. Cheers.--Florentino Floro (talk) 06:16, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Suggestion: EGM shutdown

Hi, if you aren't working on anything (or have the time to work on something else), could you make a release on the shutting down of Electronic Gaming Monthly? [39] Used to read that fervently as a kid, wouldn't wanna see it pass away without mention. 125.60.159.198 08:06, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I am developing it. - Davis sells 1UP to UGO Networks/Hearst, closes Electronic Gaming Monthly. Cheers.--Florentino Floro (talk) 09:16, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Original Reporting

Interested in helping out with some original reporting?. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:26, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. I had been thinking of it, about something in the Philippines, since I live here at Malolos City, Bulacan, Philippines. If there will be a good news or interview article here and if the big times here will agree, then I will try. But as of now, I am still learning a bit, and have not read about original reporting. (Note, these days, our papers are flooded with the big headline of the P 50 million drug bribery which I had written here. I thought of doing this but I don't believe people here will speak). Cheers.--Florentino Floro (talk) 09:35, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
I actually meant on the specific article I linked to, but yes, some original reporting like interviews with people in the Philippines would be good too. Most of our interviews are fairly 'soft', and we don't do a Jeremy Paxman on our interview subjects. There is a lot of leeway in the interview format that means you do not have to be overly paranoid about NPOV. As long as things are clearly attributed to the interview subject and your questions are relatively neutral then the responses can be utterly NPOV - because it is what someone has said.
If you're interested in contributing to the new Tony Benn interview, check the couple of questions sent, those proposed on the talk page, and his article on WP. There is also a previous interview - for the full thing listen to the audio, I didn't transcribe all of it and I think Tony Benn's voice is a delight to listen to. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:57, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I see. As I read your User Page, you are from Belgium (I had just randomly written the article on the Belgian Premier amid the economic turmoil). Actually, I do have very very little background on world events, especially this, on Tony Benn. I have to read a lot to get into this. In fact, to be candid, I am a very slow reader. Nobody will believe that I never read novels or books in my life except school books. In 1972, we were assigned William Faulkner's "As I lay dying" and ordinary guys can read it in just 5 hours. I read it in one month. Maybe, this is the reason, why in RUSH Forum I had 54,000 views, they say, what I state is not the ordinary thing you hear on the streets, weird often, though. In my 6,700 edits in Wiki Eng. I just browse and do not even read the articles, so, I got prolific editing. But here in Wikinews, during December, I spent about 7 hours for just one article. In the LA 10 dead article, Dec. 25, I spent 4 days for that. I am a very slow reader (my IQ is 100 bright normal, last 2001, but I don't know now, how I go). Also, for me, it is very hard to write a news article that I am not interested in. I could have written 3 to 4 articles a day, but, since I write only with my heart, then, I have to take time. There are days, where I spent 3 hours browsing Google and all news sites to search for my news article. Pardon for my negativity, this is what I am. Even in the mental tests, in 1995, I have had no self-confidence, and this is typical of the GIFTED, I am. In layman's terms, an piano genius needs TIME and heart to write a piece. Cheers.--Florentino Floro (talk) 10:25, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure if this is useful or not, but I proposed a way to handle articles with large number of sources so that fact checkers can theoretically be more efficient (if it'd actually help in reality i don't know). Britannica interview

I've contacted Encyclopedia Britannica, and they are willing to answer questions about their "suggested edit" process. Seeing that you've contributed that fantastic article about the process, feel free to add questions for this article. -- Zanimum (talk) 14:54, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Statement

I am Judge Florentino V. Floro, Jr., the Philippine Angel of Death, who was appointed RTC Judge of Br. 73, Malabon/Navotas, Philippines on my 45th birthday on November 4/5, 1998. Since 1995, I had worn black clothes every Fridays as prophecy of pains and deaths for the loved ones of my detractors, enemies and persecutors, up to the 4th generation. LEST I be misconstrued, I hereby state that:
  • After suffering almost 68 months of preventive suspension since July 20, 1999, I was separated from judicial service on April 7, 2006 and became Googled; in having joined more than 140 forums, inter alia, I consistently laid my cards on the table: my only agenda in the forums, inter alia, are - to share my story and at the same time, to prophesy-predict the dire pains, deaths, lingering illnesses, disasters-accidents, cancer, stroke, nerve disorders, surgeries and hospitalizations of the loved ones, up to the 4th generation, of my enemies, detractors, persecutors, etc.; I was blocked in about 20 forums and hated by Filipinos, since I never found kindness in my own country;
  • I met PinoyExchange Forum member Omeng - Mr. Romeo Miranda, CEO of Filgenuity, Inc./Filgenutiy LLC, the owner of Kingsgrill, a coconut charcoal product, which he had sold locally and abroad - at his office in Sun Valley Drive, Paranaque City, Philippines last June, 2007; he was interested in my coconut healing oil and I gave him a copy of my 376 pages Book; he invited me to register in Wikipedia and its sister projects, as he registered User:Melanie Almeria, using Bhilly Castro also in Facebook and his other accounts. After reading my book, he created on 08:20, 28 June 2007, my Wikipedia biography Florentino Floro, and he was suspected a sockpuppet of User:Judgefloro. About June 28, 2007, Mr. Miranda invited me to join Wikipedia, as I also registered my Wikipedia account User:Florentino floro. I had repeatedly stressed that my only agenda in Wikipedia was to fulfill my religious dire prophecy of deaths and pains contained in the heading of my 12 blogs, to wit: Judge Florentino Floro's biblical curse and imprecation upon - the entire Philippine judiciary, Wikipedia-Wikinews Editors- Administrators, Ateneo Law School Classes '80 to '85, including all the loved ones of his enemies, stalkers, persecutors, detractors and all those who caused the loss of the Filipino dwarf judge’s job, in a pretend world, up to the 4th generation.
  • I had blatantly cursed Filipino Wikipedians about January, 2008 and demanded/dared that they should block me amid long discussions/talks. I had completed my prophecy when my NUMBER 68 was done: I was blocked as I desired on November 22, 2008, after about 6,800 edits, and after the deaths and illnesses of my enemies, amid the C-130 crash at Davao City, Samal Island, death of the 4 parents of S.C. Justices, and the aftermath of Mumbai attacks. When I placed the template of appeal, I utterly did not write any reason, since I wanted to blocked by my stalkers.
  • In Wikinews, I registered on December 3, 2008 and had planned only 73 articles, and repeatedly stated that I would be stalked and blocked by the same Filipinos and their co-editors/sysops of Wikipedia. Thus, I had created 73 Articles (I am Br. 73, RTC Judge) - December 3, 2008 to February 22, 2009, and you will notice that about February 24, 2009, I stopped creating news articles after creating the 74th where I hoped I will be blocked, as I had desired to be blocked on March 12, before the Friday the 13th. I had repeatedly stated in the collaboration pages of my created news articles that - each news article - that I would write, each edit, especially the disasters and accidents - will, as I did and do prophecy - my enemies, including Wikipedia and Wikinews editors/sysops will 100 times suffer the dire fate-pains-deaths that were suffered by the people who suffered in the news articles I created. Please notice, that I never participated in your blocking discussions as I decided that this is the holy hour and day for me to fulfill my mission and dire prophecy.
  • IN FINE, therefore, this Good Friday, the 10th day of April, hereat Philippines, I reiterate my dire prophecies, as I hereby give a final chance or favor upon any and all Wikinews editors/sysops here, except Filipinos, who had done me wrong, to apologize, repent and ask for my forgiveness, so that my holy angels LUIS, Armand & Angel would temper their/your sufferings; but Filipino editors and sysops here and in Wikipedia will never ever be pardoned due to my LIVING CURSE since they are doomed forever. I finally say that Wikipedia and Wikinews rules on appeals-blocks are not applicable to me, and are rendered moot and academic by the above presents.+ --Florentino Floro (talk) 08:25, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
