Hi. I left some {{advice}} at the article. --Pi zero (talk) 04:59, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Let me know what else I still have to do before submitting the article for review. The Irate Communist (talk) 15:00, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please make sure you add wikilinks using the {{w}} template. Add relevant categories too. Looks like a long nice article!

Also, those last two sources were added but, other than the url, they copy the fields from the preceding source. These are fairly small things, though. I agree it looks pretty sound. Of course there might be some deeper problem lurking in it, but that's for an in-depth review to find out. It should be submitted as soon as reasonable possible, to leave as much time as possible for review (we're all volunteers here, which makes timely review an interesting logistical challenge), and of course for revision/re-submission/re-review if necessary. --Pi zero (talk) 17:26, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you would like a picture on the article, that needs to be done within 24 hours after publication. --Pi zero (talk) 23:03, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As below: Congrats on your first publication on Wikinews! (As always, see the review comments and detailed history of edits during review.) --Pi zero (talk) 23:09, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations of getting the article published![edit]

American[edit]

Noted your user-page self-description. Indeed, iirc we've had Wikinewsies with personal politics running from anarchists to constitutional monarchists. We generally avoid "America" to refer to the US, though (this is mentioned at Wikinews:Neutrality#Avoiding phrase bias and America); an edit-summary we use from time to time is "the US is a country; America is a supercontinent". A policy we've got some push-back on, typically from traditionally conservative areas of the US. --Pi zero (talk) 02:41, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. As stated in my userpage, objectivity and neutrality is always a priority over personal politics. The Irate Communist (talk) 13:58, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Published. Thanks, and congrats! Review comments. --Pi zero (talk) 22:06, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! More to come. The Irate Communist (talk) 00:56, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hi The Irate Communist. Saw you were writing about the second Presidential debate in the US. Thought maybe you could find the "welcome a bit" programme interesting. It notifies you of newly created drafts, either here on the talk page or by email, automatically. I am running this in a hope that once notified, you might decide to proofread or edit these new articles at your leisure. If you're interested in it, please let me know. --Gryllida (talk) 09:22, 15 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We've hit a snag on this one. Review comments. (And of course, history of edits during review.) --21:18, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

Available reviewers[edit]

Alas, we had a major crunch in the lead-up to the election; I pulled an all-nighter to get the October campaign trail article reviewed by noon the day before the election, and was then out of commission for quite a while as all-nighters don't come easily for me anymore (I was amazed to find I was capable of one at all, though in the 2012 election I used them for lots of the campaign-trail articles). You're right, of course, that we can be limited by availability of reviewers, but this was an exceptional situation. --Pi zero (talk) 23:59, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, I understand. Hopefully I can get some of the other articles I've started ready for review if time allows. I'm really wanting to write alot of these. The Irate Communist (talk) 21:55, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mink article[edit]

Bit of a glitch; left a not-ready review comment, hopefully straightforward. --Pi zero (talk) 20:28, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi The Irate Communist

Thank you for sharing the story. It is vastly outside my area of expertise, which limits me in what that I can do. Would be greatly interested in your help with these two tasks:

Please let me know if you would like assistance. --Gryllida (talk) 20:42, 10 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re EFF's counter notice[edit]

Hey, The Irate Communist, I appreciate you showing interest in that story. And apologies for undoing your edit. We do NOT list sources in the article that we haven't used for the article. I was nlt going to use any of the sources, as I had drafted the article in my mind, what all should be mentioned and how can that be cerified. If is a rather straightforward OR. I did wanrt to add more to the article, but that would have resulting in quote-farm. I am awaiting responses from Sergey M and GitHub. Other than that, I don't have anything else to add to the article. However, if you feel something is missing, and you would like to add more, please feel free to add it. If the information comes from a source that is not already listed, please add it. But please don't add a source without adding any information from that source. Cheers.
•–• 20:52, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No worries about the revert, I get it. As far as listing sources that haven't been used in the article, I just got in the habit of saving them in there for future use, it's usually the first thing I do when writing an article. But I can just Sandbox that shit from here on out. Cheers, The Irate Communist (talk) 21:41, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Head's up[edit]

Hi, The Irate Communist. Thanks for working on Leader of Iranian nuclear program assassinated near Tehran. I noticed you had mentioned The While House in the article. Please note, White House links are ambigous and should be updated to something clearer. Maybe US White House or Executive Office of the President of the United States. Please keep in mind in the future. Cheers!

Retirement[edit]

Sorry to hear of your retirement. Your contributions have been appreciated. --Pi zero (talk) 04:27, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for abruptly leaving. I was busy graduating college while juggling a myriad of other stupid complications stemming from my state's Covid surge. I recently resumed editing on enwp, so I figured I'd make an appearance here again. Good to see ya again! The Irate Communist (talk) 00:43, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re: 'welcome a bit' notifications[edit]

Hi The Irate Communist!

I've added you for the 'welcome a bit' notifications for developing articles for any topic. These notifications will be delivered to your talk page -- i.e. this page. Thank you for signing up!

There will be many notifications. If not touched, they may clog your talk page and look spammy. It is be possible to archive them via this script: [[1]], which can be enabled by clicking Special:MyPage/common.js?action=edit and adding importScript('User:Gryllida/js/wab-talk-0.2.js');. Then 'Archive' link will appear near each notification heading, and it will interactively prompt you to remove a notification.

As new articles appear, I personally encourage you to follow these steps immediately, as soon as the notification is received and you have a few free minutes:

  1. Approach their author at the article talk page (if they're experienced) or at their personal talk page (this is more suitable for newcomers, as this is where they notice new messages the soonest). Tell them two-three most important things they can do to improve the article, and offering your assistance. It helps to give them tips from content guide, style guide, and/or some important questions about the news event that they're reporting. Remind them to edit quickly to get it published within 2-3 days after the event, leaving some time for review to occur.
  2. Edit a copy of the article in your personal sandbox. Aim to improve as many things as you can.
  3. If no response is received within six to twelve hours, then I would recommend to edit the article to completion and submit it for review. (If response or edits are received, then your revision would need to be merged into theirs.) Leave the author a note about what you have done, outlining the main two-three changes that have been made.

This should hopefully help authors and the news readers. There is no commitment; I prefer to do these steps with articles in my topics of interest (my country and my topic, i.e. science and technology).

If you need any assistance, or find a bug in how the notifications are delivered, please let me know.

Many thanks. --Gryllida (talk) 00:27, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

HELP THEYRE GANGING UP ON ME

December 2022[edit]

Please block the user who pawned this account off on me. It was a secret Santa thing. I got royally fucked dude. I only wanted it for the cool username. He told me the original wikipedia account would get special privileges because the account because it had 100+ edits but it ended up getting instantly blocked. I only made the "PooPoo" edits to get revenge on him. Please unblock my IP address —The preceding unsigned comment was added by The Irate Communist (talkcontribs) 01:02, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I just checked in at The Irate Communist's Wikipedia userpage, and yes, the account was blocked on December 6, but as a compromised account. Specifically, after making no edits from December 1, 2021 to December 6, 2022 (which might legitimize your claims of this being an unused account, but that's irrelevant), the account moved "Ben Shapiro" to "MILK FART", eerily reminiscient of what has been done here on Wikinews. That earned a disruptive-editing warning, and you created a new talkpage section saying, "I am not the original owner of this account. My friend told me they were no longer a communist, and they gifted me this account. Now I'm just having a little bit of fun and games with it." Within hours, you were blocked indefinitely as a compromised account, and had your unblock request declined on the same grounds.

On December 11, you arrived here and began perpretrating the same vandalism (which, by the way, would not be excused by your friend screwing you over). WP:COMPROMISED (there appears to be no account compromise policy on WN) says account compromise can occur when "the person who created the account has lost access to it, and it is now controlled by another person," not just when hacking occurred. This is the same reason your unblock request on WP was rejected, and it will be the same here, because vandalism is vandalism.

Interesting to hear of your friend's supposed shift right on economic policy. --Heavy Water (talk) 02:27, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The culprit is technically my uncle, he is my coworker at the local hotel and my associate and friend and roommate. He got the hotel's IP banned and created a few fake accounts here and there. He actually said the account has gone through several other people in his friend group and has gone through multiple management changes throughout its history. I just want to continue to use this account for its sheer legacy. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by The Irate Communist (talkcontribs) 04:48, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Whether the account was compromised through hacking or voluntary password sharing is irrelevant. We have no way of knowing who we are talking to any longer. For all we know, you are still the vandal, just telling a story to get unblocked. If you are the original Irate Communist, well I am sorry, but you ruined your 'legacy' when you gave away the login information. --SVTCobra 10:52, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am neither the vandal or the original Irate Communist. I'm the current owner. I did not do the page moves or the published news articles. I was actually hoping I could use this account for an assignment my supervisor at the hotel gave me. He said
1. See previous comment by SVTCobra. 2. Wikinews articles are not press releases or advertisements, which is what it appears you tried to say you were told to do. --Heavy Water (talk) 15:15, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently, the "real" Irate Communist did not even know others had control of this account whatsoever. That's news to me. He said he retired in December 2020 and just never used the account again. How Jacob acquired access to the account is unknown to me at this time

Um[edit]

Can the original Irate Communist sue me in civil or criminal court? The Irate Communist (talk) 18:50, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No. And you will not get to use the account either, no matter who you are. --SVTCobra 02:29, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, FYI, an individual cannot sue in criminal court, or it is not, by definition, a criminal court. Heavy Water (talk) 02:49, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What the hell is this account good for anymore then? I'm probably going to start my own newspaper wiki from within my talk page. ANYONE can edit, regardless of how many people have used your account in the past. Is that okay? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by The Irate Communist (talkcontribs) 03:14, 15 December 2022‎ (UTC)[reply]
Given that these are WMF servers, no, I don't think you're allowed to use them to establish a competitor. --Heavy Water (talk) 04:19, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SVTCobra: The Irate Communist was globally locked as a compromised account on December 15, apparently. Heavy Water (talk) 00:41, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The Irate Communist: No, that is not OK. Goodbye. --SVTCobra 01:17, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
