- Name: George Watson
- Location: Lincolnshire, England
- Areas of interest: I write about anything that takes my eye. This is generally about culture, politics, or an obituary, and the United Kingdom always interests me more than foreign news.
- Reason: I have been on Wikinews for a while now, and would be interested in getting into original reporting. I would feel uncomfortable doing so without Wikinews press credentials. I am the editor-in-chief of my school magazine, for which I do a lot of original reporting already (most notably a probing interview with the headteacher, in which I made himr eveal some uncomfortable truths).
- Accomplishments: All the articles I have written are listed on my userpage. I am most proud of Twelve dead, several wounded in Fort Hood, Texas shooting, an article on which I and a few other users collaborated via IRC.

[edit]- Support User has written many good articles, I'm sure he'll do well with the press pass too. And age generally isn't an much of an issue with accreditation, I know we have at least a few users that were younger than you were when they received it (user:Boricuaeddie and user:Thunderhead to name a few). - Support Age is irrelevant. You are a good contributor with the ability, I'm sure, to do much work with the credentials. Basically the only thing age is an issue for is things you have to ID to the WMF for; if they let us, we'd strike those requirements. [edit]- OpposeI can't support anyone that has been blocked over copyright violations within the last month. This being said, I see no reason why you shouldn't try again in a month or so. You produce good articles so just remember to check everything you write before you submit it for review. --PatrickFlaherty (talk) 22:42, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose—sorry, a 72-hour block less than a month before this request, and another less than a week before that, both for copyright violations, make me unable to support at this time. Try again in a month or two. Dendodge T\C 15:17, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Neutral I wanted to support, but the above opposers bring up a good point I didn't consider. Still, i'm reluctant to oppose, seeing as you've done such a great job writing articles. If you can write some more solid articles without copyvio problems, then I'd be glad to support in 1-2 months time. Sorry. Tempodivalse [talk] 15:18, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose for now per PatrickFlaherty. Would support a renomination in a while; just need to see a steadier track record. Durova (talk) 18:07, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inactive Auto-Revokes
[edit]As policy change some months ago, all accreditation's are now subject to a 2 year "expiration". As part of this process, all users currently on the inactive list are to have to accreditation automatically revoked unless otherwise request. This is a formality thread (please, no voting). If you are an inactive user, received a noticed about your credentials expiring, and wish to retain them, please post a note here. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 20:29, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep - Lawton, Robert - plus add my vote for a badge. It's freaking embarrassing not having an ID. Oh, and I was accredited last year - so it's only been one year and not two. Rklawton (talk) 20:53, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Well the ID project is why I created & had the expiration policy approved. It is why I am doing what I am doing now. Unfortunately this expiration policy doesn't apply to the old accounts, once you re-up - it'll be fine. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 21:01, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- So am I re-upped? Rklawton (talk) 21:10, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Nah, that's down the line. Basically it'll be a really simple vote for all the users needing to be re-up'd. Unless someone has a specific complaint about you, you'll pass. Fear not, the system is totally convoluted and I have no idea how it'll work till it works (making this up as I go along) --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 21:11, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Reason: After a long absence, I returned to Wikinews last year and have now created almost 40 articles. Many of these are short, but recently I have been enjoying writing more in-depth pieces such as Chip and PIN 'not fit for purpose', says Cambridge researcher. Accreditation would allow me to supplement my articles with original research more easily, for example by seeking comments from experts on science stories. Also I can easily travel into Manchester with my camera to cover major events there.

- Firstly, @Benny...; that is correct, yes. Second, @Brian, yeah that's alright with me, i'll put 2 or 3 summary images up onto the commons, and put rest up as non-commercial CC on flickr. - Name: Jules Mattsson
- Location: London, UK
- Areas of interest: Original reporting, particularly photo-wise. Mainly cover protests and grassroots politics.
- Reason: I often photograph protests etc around London, my interest is only really in OR, it's the most interesting part. I'd like to apply for accreditation to help me with my OR and so I can contribute loads more stuff to WN. I'm particularly applying now because of an action this Thursday (10th Dec) which I’ll cover for WN, for which having accreditation would be a bit of a must.
- Accomplishments: I often photograph grassroots politics in London, mainly protests and pressure groups. I have previously had images published and used commercially, as well as published in places like Indymedia. Only written once for wikinews, unfortunately soon after that I had some kit damage to my camera and couldn't get it repaired for ages, also had college exams. But the wikinews article I’ve written is here Protesters against police violence surround London's Scotland Yard. I know that isn’t much, but I've only really starting to contribute to wikinews that one occasion and I’ll contribute more in the coming months, starting with the action on the 10th Dec . To verify that I do cover these demos and that's my WN was not just a one off check out my Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/julesmattsson/) and a couple of Facebook albums (http://www.facebook.com/photos.php?&id=746742920&s=12&hash=ee1a2fec5f7595798af55c234090691c#/album.php?aid=84652&id=746742920&op=12 and http://www.facebook.com/photos.php?&id=746742920&s=12&hash=ee1a2fec5f7595798af55c234090691c#/album.php?aid=84714&id=746742920&op=12) (Yeah, I’ve since realised the error of my ways and switched to flickr, that was a one off.) I haven’t really put all my demo photos online, as ones done for commercial use will stay on my computer and with the client, I won’t put them up anywhere as that would be a breach of contract in some circumstances.

This is likely to change as much of the landscape of my original area of concern, en.Wikipedia, is stabilising, or has already full stabilised, and it is time to move on: Wikinews seems a sensible new focus. - Reason: One of the main reasons why I want accreditation is because I am picky when it comes to writing articles due to copyright reasons. With AR I could do more AR. I live in a suburb of NYC where a lot of things happen. Also my school is a hot spot for senators and other government officials who try to push anti-cyberbulling laws (in fact Parry Aftab came to my school today (never got a heads up so I could not request a interview). Lastly my school is going to a anti cyberbulling event with my school, many senators + congressmen are expected to go to it and being accredited could help me set up a interview.

- Yea, I requested interviews with several congressmen and their press secretaries say I need credentials. At the conference I plan to take notes on what people talk about. I am not a photographer but I can always buy a camera or we could use stock photos as a last resort. Admittedly I have not written any technology articles (at least here) due to news worthiness. Also, I would totally consider doing live twitter streams, it would keep people in the loop and attract more people to wikinews. Irunongames•play 22:56, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- weak oppose. I would like to see other languages formulate accreditation policies, but without a well-established community that has cross-wiki language links to here, there is no way to judge if someone is suitable for accreditation, appropriately trustworthy, or vouched for by someone from the Tamil Wikinews that is well-known to people here. -- Brian McNeil (alt. account) /alt-talk • main talk 19:11, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- oppose. We have discussed this in Tamil Wikimedia community. The Tamil Wikinews project is in its very early stage. This is too early to consider such request for anyone.
