Main Page leads

Hi @SVTCobra: we discuss the problem of deleting the Ngawi category. Then, is there any Ngawi category removed? If there is the latest news, it can be pinned in the ngawi category. How about this ? Trademarks do not infringe on copyright. I actually considered uploading the full logo (with the flower or whatever it is) locally like Wikipedia has done as it would be fair use. Trademarks provide protection from competitors trying to impersonate a product or service. For example, a gas station cannot put the BP logo on their fuel pumps, unless they are actually a BP station. A random drinks manufacturer cannot put the Pepsi logo on their cans. I think trademark laws were established as a form of consumer protection to prevent confusion in the market place. We are quite literally doing the opposite. We use trademarked logos to specifically identify the subject of a news article or category so the reader knows exactly what we are writing about. It is absolutely fine. On a totally unrelated note, could you change the targets of Islamic State, Islamic State of Iraq, and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant to Category:Islamic State? Yes, I know those are overdue. They are quite a bit more controversial than the SEC which I just finished. I will need to research if, in fact, that is an official new name or if there are fractions. When I populate a category, I also review each article to see what else might be in need (other missing categories, local links, and more). It can be quite labor intensive, as you may have noticed if you watch Recent Changes.
Islamic State can be a different kind of Pandora's box. A few years ago, we went through a whole big thing about separating Afghan Taliban from Pakistani Taliban. These organizations are usually not as centralized as media tends to portray them.

Placement of images

Placing the image above the infobox ensures the story's image, not the infobox image, displays when searching for articles from the wikinews.org main site. For example, searching for this article, File:Dominican Republic (orthographic projection).svg is displayed alongside the headline, not File:Santiago DomRep.JPG. That must have something to do with the quote box. In all my years, I have never had MakeLead 2.0 select the image from an infobox. Infoboxes, by tradition and per Wikinews:Article layout in a nutshell#Information boxes go in the line below {{date}}. There was no problem with the last article I published. But I am talking about when one goes to wikinews.org and searches for an article name in the box below all the links to the language editions. OK, I see the same. But is that an issue? Who goes to https://www.wikinews.org/ and searches for the exact title of an article they presumably didn't even knew existed? And if the little thumbnail displayed is a map or a flag instead of a photo from the article are they not going to click on it? In my browser, these are quite small thumbnails. I personally prefer having the image above the infobox for that exact reason. Is there a reason for keeping tradition for the sake of it? Moreover, when sharing an image on, say, social media, the image that automatically shows will be one relevant to the article rather than, e.g. the Dominican Republic map. If we're talking in terms of decades, an article from even 2013 has the following differences that are minute but now standardised:
  • Manually specifying units rather than the convert template
  • 'Said' without colon afterward
  • Citing DOI

I don't know. I spend so much time in the text editor it becomes visually distracting for me when reviewing and/or archiving when I can't find the infobox. I, admittedly, know nothing about how it looks on social media. (Should I add 'boomer' to my user page?) As for the other points:
  • Conversion templates are not mandated by the WN:SG as far as I know. Is it standard to do it manually? In your example, I don't know if one exists for milliliters to tablespoons. I only discovered them a few years ago and like them. I implement them during reviews from time-to-time.
  • The colon or comma is a tough one. IMHO, I feel it really depends on how the buildup is. I think both are grammatically correct. If I may illustrate how I might use them:
    • John walked out the door and said, "Wow, today is sunny."
    • John walked out the door. Afterwards he made a statement which said: "Wow, today is sunny."
  • DOI ... not sure what we are talking about. I googled it and found Digital Object Identifier. Alas, I am no closer to understanding your query.

When I updated the leads yesterday, WN:ML kept picking up the second sentence of China's Foreign Ministry sanctions US Representative Michael McCaul instead of the first sentence. I experimented with moving elements around, but it kept happening. In the end, I had to do it manually. Did you have the same problem with that article? I haven't published anything since that was published but I just tested it and I get the second sentence as well. I know ML cannot understand Wiktionary links and so will stop when it encounters one, but that's obviously not the problem here (and that cuts off sentences, not skips them). Email stuff

So, I've received no response from Grylidda or Acagastaya on the email situation. I may take steps to set up some sort of web mail situation for us. I am not wealthy and cannot fund a huge expense in that regard for a long period, but we need something. It needs to look/function in a credible way, so, there's that. Looking at Category:Raúl Castro as an example, I think |paren=yes was designed to get the entire image credit onto the same line. We have not had an issue to be resolved by ArbCom for a decade or more. If an issue should arise were it can't be handled by an Administrator, Wikinews will have to seek help from whatever resources the WMF has for Small Wikis. For a couple of reasons. First off, I did quite literally rewrite it. I did not copy and paste a single thing from The Guardian article, and if I copypasted anything, it would be the numerical form of the number one (1) from Google, because the button for the numerical one and the exclamation mark is broken. Secondly, I rewrote it how I felt it should be written. Most things I didn't think should be worded differently. I did change a couple of things though, some minor things, but still. Stop wasting my time. Whether you typed it or copy/pasted it, it was word-for-word the same as the Guardian. And it was the case for the entire article. I guess the Guardian just wrote it so perfect that you couldn't even think of anything to change. Well, that's not even how this is supposed to work.
