From Wikinews, the free news source you can write!

Did it occur to you to do some copy-editing first, before publishing? The entire first paragraph is one gigantic run-on sentence. --SVTCobra 13:45, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

And I see you did it here too [1], even removing a cleanup tag from another admin, and publishing without doing any copy-editing. That's swell. --SVTCobra 13:57, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Official Release here, check it up if necessary for C/Eing..... Brock contact... 06:43, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

I have started WN:TO-DO as a place to list what should be daily or weekly points to check for regular contributors. Some parts are admin-only (e.g. Archiving) but others are things that anyone can get involved with. Feel free to add additional points and spread the word about this shortcut to get people helping do Wikignome tasks. --Brian McNeil / talk 15:52, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

I hereby award you the Original Reporting Barnstar for 'Suspicious package' causes closure of busy street in Buffalo, New York. It is excellent OR with photos and it is well written. User:Anonymous101 :) 16:23, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Indeed, looks good Jason, not too keen on the date stamps on the images though. Adambro - (talk) 16:26, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah I only noticed the date after I took the pics :( that problem is fixed though. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 18:10, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Al Qaeda leader in Iraq arrested article

[edit]

Hey! Thanks for your quick work in editing and publishing my breaking news article. I had one question about it though, where did you get the photo? I saw it on Wikipedia but I was under the impression that we couldn't implement an image unless it was on Wikimedia? Thanks again. Herb - (talk) 22:08, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Please see WN:PD#Criteria: "Abandoned articles - Unpublished articles that have not been edited for four days should be marked with {{abandoned}} and deleted two days later, permitting that no other edits have been made since then."

I don't think an article that hasn't been editing in six hours should be considered abandoned. Adambro - (talk) 09:41, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Commentary namespace

[edit]

I don't think we need a "reason to keep" these comments, rather we need a "reason to delete". If you think using "stupid" is a reason for deleting a comment, then we should get rid of the name-space for comments. --SVTCobra 01:42, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

I never said stupid. I said that his intentions, based on his edit history, and blanking the previous comments to tell the author to fuck off, were trolling. And still think it is. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 01:44, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
The offensive edit was the first ever, and after Pilotguy removed it, the anon restated in less offensive terms (anon used "stupid" not you). This new rewriting should stand, imo. --SVTCobra 01:49, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

I am, once again, putting myself up for Rfa. I would appriciate it if you could stop by My RFA and vote. Wheter support or oppose I would appriciate your vote to avoid another situation of having too few votes.-Ryan524 (talk) 23:12, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

I got an e-mail that says its not a troll...but I am not sure how to get rid of it either. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:31, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Original reporting

Since our last edition, many articles have claimed original reporting. Here are the most recent:

Several others wrote stories based on television sources. The Wikinews Reports blog activity was mostly related to some of these stories. You can ask any of the blog authors if you want to help out on the blog.

Editor's note

In the last few months activity on Wikinews has continued to decrease to an incredibly low level. There are hardly any new contributers joining and one of our best users, DragonFire1024 (talk · contribs) has gone on Wikibreak. However, some excellent articles are continuing to be written. Welcoming new users

[edit]

There is no policy stopping one from welcome non-contributing new users is there? --Remi (talk) 00:03, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, okay. I will do my best. I've found that qualitatively, it seems when we do welcome all users over a period of time on Wikiversity it seems we have the amount of users created bump up. I could be totally wrong... but just something to ponder, maybe. :) --Remi (talk) 09:20, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Wanted to drop in and thank you for reverting that vandal earlier; I should be on more often once school lets out :) Thunderhead 01:13, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Re: Hockey

[edit]

Thanks for the feedback on the hockey articles. My time does not always permit articles, or sometimes fully-expanded items, but perhaps that's where other editors should fill in. Generally we need more editors to work on things at WN; recruitment should be made a big discussion for the Water Cooler. Meanwhile, enjoy the new Detroit-Dallas item just posted. Scribble Wiki

[edit]

Why did you delete my page? It was under construction. Christopher140691 (talk) 20:05, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

"People engaged in public policy and Internet stuff have always found their way here," said Michael Godwin, general counsel for the Wikimedia Foundation.

Thought that in light of this article you had written, you'd be interested to know of Godwin's role in representing the Wikimedia Foundation at a tech conference 9 days later. Cirt (talk) 23:46, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Iceland earthquake

[edit]

Please substantiate you claims of copyvio. --SVTCobra 23:15, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Your edit was almost exactly the same as Reuters. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 23:16, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I dispute this claim ... yes the changes were mostly all facts from Reuters, which was the source I just added — so I was adding facts from this source — which seemed to be the latest news. However, I vehemently deny that I was violating their copyright. --SVTCobra 23:25, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Accreditation

[edit]

Hi Jason! I'm most active in it.wikinews, but I'm interesting to accreditation. Because of Italian law we have many problems to have accreditation, so, I decided to ask you if I can request it on en.wikinews. I understand almost the entire policy, and the request seems quite easy, but I wanted to ask you if it were difficult to obtain because I am more active on another project. I decided to ask you because I've already ask to Bawolff, but seems no active. Thanks for your help :-) --Stef Mec (talk) 17:45, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

My contributions on the Italian or English version of Wikinews? In it.wn I've more than 3.000 edit --Stef Mec (talk) 17:55, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
That's a good hope, but the Italian system of journalism it's good like...uhm, a dump?! ;) You believe that I can obtain easily (or at least with a few problems) the accreditation? It could be an additional means to contribute both in the Italian version and here. --Stef Mec (talk) 18:54, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Publication date

[edit]

Thanks for the tip; I'll remember it :) b2xiao (talk) 21:26, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Quality imrpovement

[edit]

I'd like you to take a look at User:Brianmc/Wikinews workflow. Read the whole page carefully then go look at the talk and comment where you see fit. I am disappointed and irked that some people want to argue that what we have right now is good enough. I do not believe it is, and am strongly arguing the case that we need to change. --Brian McNeil / talk 13:32, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Breaking news

[edit]

This article Two dead, seven others wounded in church by gunfire in Tennessee, United States is breaking news and has been renamed alot. I was wondering if we could get rid of these two redirects in particular with there associated talk pages, because they aren't linked to anything, plus they were changed because of a typo. Seven people in church wounded by gunfire in Tennesee, United States and One dead, six others wounded in church by gunfire in Tennesee, United States, and also deleting there comment pages. No sense have 2 unneccessary redirects. Thanks, The Mind's Eye (talk) 02:01, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
