Prep file

Yes, you can go ahead and delete it now. Should I inform you when I need my next one deleted too? TheCustomOfLife 06:09, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, sounds good. Feel fee to drop me a note for the next one, or you can simply add the tag {{delete|not required, as per user}} to the page and any admin will delete it. Cheers, Jcart1534 11:17, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your car?

That is your car, SVTCobra? Very cool! I knew your name was based on that, but wasn't aware you owned one. lol! Nice. Jcart1534 11:25, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, she's all mine. It's a 2003. Thanks, --SVTCobra 11:46, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

archive templates

you are of course welcome to use them. don't remember now who i ripped them off from in the first place :) –Doldrums(talk) 13:36, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can add stuff now. I'll be back in about 40 minutes. --SVTCobra 20:22, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you finished or do you need more time? I have some stuff to add and then I think we can publish. --SVTCobra 21:05, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done now! Jcart1534 21:08, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your contributions. I made it second lead since that uranium story is really from the 29th. Cheers, --SVTCobra 21:52, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So is the Wikimedia Foundation story and it has been up since the 29th. It is a matter of staleness. Jcart1534 21:56, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Switch them if you like. In my mind (only a personal preference), I try to put original stories or interviews in "Featured" and leave them til we have new orginal stuff. You could also make the Aids Day story the Main Lead, since the Russia story won't be really big news until the results come in. I don't really care either way.--SVTCobra 22:06, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure it is quite ready for publication --Anonymous101 20:04, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, but I didn't publish it. What does it need? Are you going to add more content? Jcart1534 20:13, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I thought you published it, I misread the history page --Anonymous101 20:24, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No sweat. Have fun with it! It is an interesting story. Cheers, Jcart1534 20:31, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stumped

What the ?!? I know I read that article. I am looking ... will get back to you shortly. --SVTCobra 00:32, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think we lost the article while reverting page-move vandalism. I will try to recover it. --SVTCobra 00:39, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think I got it, please see Amtrak train smashes freighter in Chicago. Article history seems be lost (or only viewable with sysop powers). --SVTCobra 00:47, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good job! I couldn't find it. You're right. Some of the latest edits are missing i.e. when the page move vandalism occurred. Jcart1534 00:52, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I found it by going backwards through the deletion log. --SVTCobra 00:54, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jump5

Hi SVT! I am not sure that the singer Cali that you linked would be the artist at this show in Nashville. I can't be sure, but look at the Wikipedia entry and try the artist's homepage under External links. Just doesn't seem right. That's why I left it unlinked. Jcart1534 23:58, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll check it. --SVTCobra 00:08, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, you're right again. It is this young lady, who somehow doesn't have a Wikipedia page. Delinked in article. Cheers, --SVTCobra 00:27, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

oops

thanks [1] my mistake Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 19:58, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No sweat, Brian. I saw you did some year-end housecleaning, but thought I should add the DPL back. Cheers, Jcart1534 21:16, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

I dunno if you do RfA thanks here, or if it's just a Wikipedia thing. If not, I reckon the trend needs broken. Many thanks for participating in my RfA, which was successful. Unfortunatly, I can't use the excuse of testing my shiny new buttons to see what they do as I have them on Wikipedia ;). So, I guess that rules out any rogue-adminish behaivour ;-). Seriously, though, cheers, and see you around on-wiki! Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 15:22, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: year overview image

Thanks for the compliment, I enjoyed making it. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 12:50, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: David Hicks Released From Yatala

I actually did upload the picture on David Hicks being released into the Commons area but I was not sure how to embed the image into the Hicks Released From Yatala article. Hence the image has been uploaded twice. Yes I did take the picture and on reducing the size of the image also decided to remove any exif data from the jpeg. Looking at other image contribution my 550K file size was very modest and probably could have left it in its original ~3MB size. I guess storage space isn't an issue for the wiki group. --Pthornton 15:38, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have uploaded the original jpg overwriting the smaller one. 4 Meg not a problem as a contribution? --Pthornton 16:13, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you just re-uploaded the file here on Wikinews. I think perhaps I wasn't clear enough. The file should be uploaded on Wikimedia Commons, which is a part of the Wikipedia family where free media can be uploaded and shared throughout the Wikimedia projects. You may have to create a user account there before uploading the image. Sorry for any confusion! File size isn't an issue there, so go ahead and upload the 4 Meg file. Cheers, --Jcart1534 16:17, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Specialty?

Hi, you just changed speciality to specialty in the Garuda crash article as you were archiving. Was that a mistake, or is it some bit of US English that I'm unfamiliar with? Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 20:38, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oops! You're right about that BRS. I was too quick with my spell checker. I prefer the Commonwealth spelling as well, so I reverted that. However, I did find a couple of other spelling errors that I missed and corrected them as well. Thanks! --Jcart1534 20:46, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem ;-). Re archiving, I was unsure whether to change the source order and relocate the publish tag, as I was unsure if policy was different that long ago, so thanks for clearing that up. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 21:08, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving ...

Hi Jcart, I was gonna take a stab at some archiving and then the first article I picked, UN says polio eradicated in Egypt and Niger, had no sources. What do I do? --SVTCobra 01:25, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. That is interesting. I don' think I've seen one with no sources at all. Perhaps we should place a notice on it similar to the "sources" tag, but leave it actually untagged? Kind of an advisory? --Jcart1534 01:34, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I added an advisory. What do you think? It seems the best we can do for the older articles. --Jcart1534 01:45, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fine by me ... you have become the archivist ... it is probably possible to retroactively find a source for an article of this nature though. Cheers, --SVTCobra 01:54, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well if you want to find one, that would be best, obviously. I was just looking for an easy way out! Cheers, --Jcart1534 01:57, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archive template

Hi again. The {{Archive}} template asks users/editors to go to WN:AAA if there is a correction/edit needed. They can either add it there or (if they read closely) learn that they can add {{Editprotected}} on the collaboration page. But shouldn't {{Archive}} be modified to let people know to use {{Editprotected}}? I opened a discussion at Template talk:Archive. Cheers, --SVTCobra 01:58, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That is an excellent suggestion SVT. I modified the {{Archive}} template accordingly. What do you think? --Jcart1534 02:29, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I hope you're not surprised ... but I think that it is a good change. The only reason I didn't leap forward and do it right away was the warning about load on the servers. Though I am not sure that is a legitimate concern for a project of our size. I'll leave the {{flag}} on the discussion for a couple of days so others have a chance to comment. --SVTCobra 02:36, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you liked it! Just thought I would be bold. Your suggestion made so much sense. :) --Jcart1534 02:42, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed the article is on the main page (thanks, btw) under my old headline, but links to the moved article. Will this auto-update (had I just waited two [f]ing minutes) or is there some special Admin voodoo required?

And since I'm here, what do you/does everyone do about non-url sources? The source template doesn't like "url=" being left blank. Is there a preferred alternative? -- 203.57.68.20 17:14, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey 203.57.68.20! Nice job on the article, by the way. Hope to see more contributions from you. To clear the cache and see the renamed title, just click on "Refresh under "Latest News RSS" on the Main page. Cheers, --Jcart1534 17:18, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
With regard to the non-url source, I think the formatting is okay, but there may be some concerns with verifiability (see the Wikinews source page). Where did that source come from? Was it print? What info did you get from it that you couldn't get from the other url sources? --Jcart1534 17:33, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Refresh, damn, the number of times that's caught me... Anyway, yes, the "Adelaide Advertiser" source was print, I got the HSBC quote there plus Turnbull's bleeting. Did a google search for key phrases from the quote, plus the names; worked for the rest, not for that. Weird. -- 203.57.68.20 17:59, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Still, can go one better: There's a News.com.au story, which references a Fairfax-digital story which I can't find. Not on fairfax media, not via google. Why can't they put proper references... Anyway, I'll start it, and maybe someone else will have more luck, back to work... -- 203.57.68.20 17:59, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've applied the category to a selection of these articles - but not all. I moved the discussion from Admin alerts to the category talk page and flagged it. I think we need to iron out a degree of consensus over what is and isn't comedy in a news setting. --Brian McNeil / talk 10:30, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Jcart! When you are done adding Category:Comedy to various articles, I hope that you will give a report on your changes at Category talk:Comedy. I know you have been updating the tags, but without a mention it makes other people's comments look nonsensical. Cheers, --SVTCobra 02:18, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did about five seconds before you posted this! Cheers, --Jcart1534 02:19, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Coolio! Just didn't want you to forget. Cheers, --SVTCobra 02:33, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks - I've been busy both with IRL business and with other Wikimedia projects - but thought I'd pop back in here. Still every bit as obstinate that WN needs to have a way for accredited reporters to release interviews into the Public Domain though - before I'll publish any on here ;) Anyways, I'll try to stick around and at least tidy up existing articles - while using accredition to continue getting photo opportunities for WN and the rest of the WMF projects. Thanks, took me a while to find it but i think its amazing also :-) (Is it too late for our POTY??) --MarkTalk to me 18:40, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I believe it would be too late (2007 only?). You'll have to remember it for the 2008 POTY. --Jcart1534 18:53, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tops in readership....

Thanks! Evidently some people don't appreciate the articles I've worked on at Wikinews, nice to know that others do :). Wilhelm 16:27, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you retitle the article without discussing it first on the article talk page. In fact, the supercomputer is being designed "TO"...not just "CAPABLE" as originally titled. IBM to construct supercomputer to run entire Internet. Please move it back to the old name ASAP. See article talk page. 70.54.8.246 19:59, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you now reverting my edits to the article? 70.54.8.246 22:47, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To interpret what they are proposing as actually hosting the entire internet is nonsensical. Read the IBM white paper. --Jcart1534 - (talk) 22:51, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did, this why they are doing the work on this project "TO HOST" the Internet as an application on Kittyhawk. Do you not see that? 70.54.8.246 22:54, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you not see that they are only exploring the possibility of building a computer capable of doing this. Firstly, they are not doing it, only exploring it at this point. Secondly, they are only doing it to see theoretically if it could host the entire internet as an application. --Jcart1534 - (talk) 23:01, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving ...

Hi JCart. After the bot-archiving took place, the handy list of articles needing archiving on WN:AAA disappeared (was removed). I'd like to contribute. What is the best way to find the articles in need? I'd like to work on the oldest first. --SVTCobra 02:00, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SVT. If we try to keep up with the current ones, I believe we can start from February 15 and work our way forward. If it would be helpful, we can add TheFearow's DPL back to AAA (or somewhere else)? Also, once we are caught up, and if we feel ambitious, we can create a new DPL searching on {{Archive-unreviewed}} to find the bot-archived ones to give a final human clean-up. I should have a bit more time going forward to chip in. Cheers, --Jcart1534 - (talk) 02:57, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Jcart, I'm Dustihowe from the English Wikipedia. I'm checking out the sister projects and noticed that your syop list is kinda short. Are you needing more help with this Wiki project? Let me know, Dusti (talk) 03:44, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I know you wrote the two other articles about the Laval constable that was killed last year. Just wanted to let you know that I started an article about the verdict in the murder trial. It could use some expanding though; maybe you have something to add to it? (Zachary) 00:19, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zachary. Thanks for doing the article. I wasn't aware that the trial had come to a head. The oldest related news article was the first I had written on Wikinews. Sorry I don't have much time at the moment to participate. Cheers, --Jcart1534 (talk) 01:00, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
