Who are Schmidt and Yang? --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 10:55, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, they are Eric E. Schmidt (Google Chairman) and Jerry Yang (Yahoo chairman). I really should have included that in the article as many people will not recognize the name. --{{SUBST:Anonymous101/Signature}} 16:18, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Those two OR pieces were written last year, both within a three month gap of each other. I don't think that's enough for me to want to give accreditation. I'd want at least one OR piece a month. TheCustomOfLife - (talk) 14:08, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't want him to churn out one OR EVERY month, but at least an average over a span of time. I just wasn't horribly happy with presenting pieces from a year ago and going "This is my contribution." To me, that didn't sit well. TheCustomOfLife - (talk) 14:22, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

- I'm aware of the issue. Basically Leon's tool which my bot got the data from has not been maintained for quite a while. Recently the toolserver folks rearranged stuff, and no one has fixed leon's tool. On the bright side, Wikipedia currently has real stats coming from wikimedia servers, which might spread to us at some point, but in the mean while we do not have any data source for statistics. Featured picture
[edit]I think we should probably consider moving to separate featured pictures from those displayed in the news in pictures displayed on the main page. Since featured pictures should really be subject to a community discussion before being defined as such and this process doesn't fit in with the current idea of displaying a relevant image of a recent news event. In the current situation there is little value to declaring proudly that an image is featured because it doesn't mean anything more than one editor has decided to put it in news in pictures on the main page.
We might even wish to consider scrapping the whole concept of a WN featured picture altogether if it doesn't seem workable. Adambro - (talk) 16:10, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- "Featured" is a misnomer, the "News in pictures" header is more appropriate. It's just meant to make the front page more graphical and to promote photojournalism: consider renaming the template if you want to avoid further confusion. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 16:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Please note that I just used the Wikinews template name and moved it to commons with wikinews-en before it. --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) 17:18, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Stevenfruitsmaak. Before we close this DR, I'd hope we could get a comment from you. Basically it involves migrating "Featuredpic" to "News in Pictures". You were the caretaker of this and the one who ran the Picture-of-the-Year. Cheers, --SVTCobra 00:55, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Rename AIDS category -> HIV/AIDS?
[edit]Hi, I just noticed that Category:AIDS might be more accurately named Category:HIV/AIDS since some of the articles relate to HIV, and not HIV with a low CD4 count and an OI. Also this would give it consistent naming with Wikipedia:Category:HIV/AIDS, although not the commons category (Commons:Category:HIV). -Optigan13 (talk) 05:46, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Okay, not really, but I am requesting your participation in the following Water Cooler Discussion: OR and Broadcast report. The discussion involves the need for specific policy concerning how Original Reporting relates to information recieved from a broadcast report of an event. This can include both news-style reports and non-news reports, such as a sporting event. Thanks and again, please share your thoughts on this so we can get as many people involved as possible, especially since this relates to an important topic such as OR. —Calebrw (talk) 05:18, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Accreditation Expiration
[edit]Greetings, I wanted to let you know that our policy regarding accreditation has recently changed slightly. Specifically we've enacted an automatic expiration of accreditation after 2 years. You can very easily "re-up" your accreditation should you choose to, but at this point in time you're on the Inactive list. As such your accreditation will automatically be revoked on March 15th unless you request otherwise. Currently, posting to the following thread will keep your accreditation. At a later date, all Accredited reporters will be put in for that "re-up", at which time you'll be notified. Thank you, and should you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 20:47, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
