Some words of the wise...
Hello Brian New Zealand! Congratulations in your AbCom election! Just some word from the wise (You don't know how much it hurts me to repeat these words...):
For our non-kiwi friends (including myself), here is more or less a translation:
Yeah (err... Hi?) that's probably a horrible translation. Nevertheless, sounds like a great chant, only if I wasn't on the opposing side. terinjokes | Talk | Come visit the WikiBistro 17:42, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

You changed the title recently of "Canadian Green Party leader set to challenge Mackay for seat". Could you please change it again and replace "Mackay" with "MacKay". I forgot to capitalize the "K" and I don't know how to change a headline. Cheers, Jcart1534 10:49, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Theme Song
I'm not a big fan of the theme song, I don't know what others think but it doesn't sound "newsy" That cannot be compared to the NBC or Sky news theme song which is used for many networks (sky news uk, Au, NZ, channel 7 (australia) etc)

I'm a student so, I can go and see if womeone at school can put something together - we have quite a few compluting labs with acid installed so, heaps o people I know could compose something. I can't be bothered doing it myself - mabye if we play the current theme song backwards? :P

Debatepedia.org launch press release - "the Wikipedia of debate"
Thought you might be interested in this as a reporter for Wikinews.
For Immediate Release The International Debate Education Association Launches Debatepedia.org
Debatepedia calls on citizens to take a stand as editors on the “Wikipedia of debate”
Main Page: http://wiki.idebate.org/index.php/Welcome_to_Debatepedia%21
NEW YORK, NY (October 12, 2007) – The International Debate Education Association (IDEA) announced today its launch of Debatepedia.org, a wiki with the ambitious mission of becoming the world’s "Wikipedia of debate and reason". On Debatepedia, at www.idebate.org, people can help edit and co-create an encyclopedia of debates by adding pro and con arguments and compiling bodies of supporting evidence within a unique pro/con “logic tree” structure. Debatepedia is also a place for documenting the positions of leaders and organizations. The potential range of debates on Debatepedia is limitless and includes topics that are international, national, and local in scope. It also intends to offer different language versions. Its ambitious mission will have a major impact on the way citizens engage in pressing debates, draw personal conclusions, and even influence their representatives and leaders.
Debatepedia is the product of over a year-and-a-half of work by a dedicated team of individuals. It was founded by Georgetown students and alumni in the Winter of 2006, who then outsourced a software project to India in the Spring and Summer of 2007, creating software that enables users to easily use and manipulate the original and essential “logic-tree” pro/con structure of debates. Debatepedia merged with IDEA in the summer of 2007, joining a talented international team, and benefiting from the migration of roughly 500 refined debate articles from IDEA’s existing Debatabase (the product of over 8 years of work). The merger of these teams under the umbrella of IDEA and its network has made the new Debatepedia into a powerful force of effort, vision, and potential.
With Debatepedia’s launch, the focus moves to building a vibrant wiki community of volunteer editors. Like Wikipedia, such a community is fundamental to its mission. Debatepedia’s launch is a call to debaters, students, experts, and citizens to register on Debatepedia and become active editors and members of its community. It encourages editors to engage for personal reasons in the issues they care most about, using Debatepedia as a tool to gather and weigh pros and cons, and back up the positions they take. For debaters, its the ultimate forum for gathering and depositing evidence.
Debatepedia founder and chief editor Brooks Lindsay says, “I am incredibly lucky to be the chief editor of Debatepedia because the process and structure pushes me to read widely on the most important issues of the day, inquire in areas of uncertainty, gather and organize arguments, deliberate on them, and determine where I stand. It’s the ultimate personal philosophical tool, and a great tool for debaters.”
In the coming year, Debatepedia’s focus is squarely on the hottest debates in the world today. For those living in or interested in the United States, it will be featuring roughly 50 essential debates that surround the 2008 US presidential and congressional elections.

big bold change to main stylesheet[2]
It didn't work (I'm assuming it didn't, it shouldn't have) because @import rules have to be the first rule in the css file (well almost. Some things (like @charset) precede it, but you're probably never going to use them, so for our purposes @import has to be first). Happy editing. Bawolff ☺☻ 02:23, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Block of User:CommonsDelinker
Could I ask that you consider unblocking CommonsDelinker? I'm afraid I don't understand the justification for blocking it. Whilst it has not received local permission, its actions are, forgetting any mistakes Commons admins make, entirely helpful to this project and received a great deal of support on a cross-wiki basis at Meta:Requests for permissions/CommonsDelinker.
I understand there is an ongoing discussion at Wikinews:Bots but as no major concerns have been raised I would suggest it is appropriate to allow the bot to run until such time as the community decides otherwise.
Perhaps if you feel it inappropriate to unblock this bot, could you clarify your reasons for blocking it. Thanks. Adambro 16:26, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

There are two requests in relation to CheckUser and oversight which require the approval of the Arbitration Committee before they are presented to Wikimedia stewards for action to be taken. I would ask you to review these two requests:
- User:Brianmc has recently been elected to the committee and requests CheckUser and oversight
- User:Chiacomo hasn't been re-elected and has been inactive on the project since March, User:Adambro has suggested his privileges are revoked.
I would appreciate your input, as a member of ARBCOM which I understand has the final say on whether a user has these rights, on these two requests. Adambro 14:12, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Portal:Football
I registered today because I saw that Portal:Football was very out of date. I have written a few articles so far today and will do every day to keep this updated. I was thinking of an idea though but I wanted to ask a sysop first.
Could we 'employ' users to be football writers for their team. So if this goes ahead there would be a group of users per team who will write up the latest news and match reports for Wikinews. The team links would be Portal:Football/LeagueName/ClubName. So for Celtic it'd be Portal:Football/SPL/Celtic. If you go to Portal:Football you will see that the fixture list has been updated, the featured results has been updated and that I am going to start a major revamp of Portal:Football. I am going to ask Dark Squall to help me as most of his contributions are football related topics.
Thanks. Please send your comments to me ASAP. Celticfan383 01:05, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Unusual request
Just FYI, I'm cross-posting this to Brianmc's talk page as well. Hope you two don't mind.
I need help convincing User:Edbrown05 that he can trust me. He's convinced that I'm a liar, and that I want to use his sockpuppet accounts myself. Ignoring the latter, I'd like your help doing a CheckUser on me. I've already posted the request to WN:CU. To re-iterate what I wrote there, I'm not concerned about my privacy. If I were afraid of people being able to identify my IP addresses, I'd edit through Tor. :)
Thanks for any help you can provide. irid:t 05:15, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- If it's not too much of a hassle, could you also include all of the IPs I've edited from? Or is that information not available? Effectively, I'm trying to prove that I have not edited in any misleading way. Thanks for the checkuser in either case. :) irid:t 05:56, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
"Been bold and approving it. I feel that many of the the !oppose votes are non-votes. And should not count."
I'm afraid I'm not happy that the result of this should be approve Admittedly, I was one of the people who votes oppose so could be seen to have a conflict of interest. I count two support votes and two oppose votes and I don't understand on what basis you have decided not to take the oppose votes into consideration. I would appreciate you taking the time to explain the reasoning for your decision. Thanks. Adambro 15:47, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- I too object to this, for the same reasons. For me, it is too early to give this user accreditation. Please reconsider your action. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 21:44, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Personally, I'm glad that you have been bold and approved it. I'll try to do my best so that you'll not regret this decision. I'll contact you separately about the pass question. --Gwyndon 21:13, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- There's bold and then there is too bold. Any decision to approve an accreditation request should reflect consensus, I'm not convinced this is the case here. Whilst I am sure Gwyndon will do his best not to disappoint, I don't however feel the accrediation request should have been granted just yet due to the lack of contributions for the community to study to aid them make their decision. I was unaware of the deletion discussion about this category, and no one notified me of it. Is there a way this can be restored? The category is used on Wikipedia and other projects, and has been used on Wikipedia for quite some time now and is stable over there. Wilhelm 17:57, 24 December 2007 (UTC).
- Why is a category that has existed at Wikipedia since June 2004 not deemed appropriate here? Can we please have another deletion discussion so I can raise these points, since I was not notified about the last one, even though I was the creator of that category? Wilhelm 21:42, 1 January 2008 (UTC).
- Category created in June 2004 on Wikipedia and Category stable in December 2007 and to this day, on Wikipedia. I should note that the category also exists in Wikipedias in fifteen other languages, and on Simple English Wikipedia. Wilhelm 21:44, 1 January 2008 (UTC).
