Help

[edit]

Hello,I want to know that how to show a new created post in a Latest Result stories, For example-if I creates a news regarding Cricket then how to show it in "Category:Cricket" in latest story result.i hope you understand.(Mr.Mani Raj Paul (talk) 14:29, 2 January 2019 (UTC))Reply

<pi zero drops in on conversation> @Mr.Mani Raj Paul: Hi. Once you've written an article and submitted it for review, it needs to be reviewed in-depth by an authorized reviewer, and if it's published, then it appears in the lastest-story listings of various categories. See the first pillar at WN:PILLARS. --Pi zero (talk) 14:35, 2 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hello Mr.Mani Raj Paul. What Pi zero said. Also at your talk page I proposed two changes which I think may be required for publication. Gryllida (talk) 22:19, 2 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Gryllida:@Pi zero:,hello , can I know that how much time will take for publish or review a news??,(Mr.Mani Raj Paul (talk) 13:54, 3 January 2019 (UTC))Reply

@Mr.Mani Raj Paul: One of the things it depends on is availability of reviewers (who are volunteers too, after all). I'm the most active reviewer on the project lately, and I happen to have had trouble fitting in review time for the past few days; usually, I'd like to think, I do better than this. --Pi zero (talk) 14:54, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
The review times should be about to drop drastically. I've recently returned from a long hiatus, but I've been limited in terms of when I can contribute because I've been awaiting a new laptop. Although I haven't physically laid my hands on it yet, it arrived today and I'll hopefully be getting back into reviewing. A word of caution: I'll be starting with selected reviews that look easier to me, because I need to get used to doing it again. But even so, by reducing the amount of stuff on the queue I should be able to help improve wait times greatly for all articles. BRS (Talk) (Contribs) 16:59, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
In my personal opinion reading the last section here and addressing it may improve the likelihood of publication. I would be glad to help. Currently I am a tad frustrated as it seems that this section was not read. Gryllida (talk) 22:01, 3 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
It was now. Thanks. :-) Gryllida (talk) 04:09, 4 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Briefs?

[edit]

I hope you can read French if you want to read the link, sorry, but I was wondering if it would be possible to create a system on this wikinews, like the French one, where brief, small articles are published seperately so we can report more events? Only a suggestion Source; [1]. Thanks, Qwerty number1 (talk) 15:35, 20 February 2019 (UTC) Or, at least, did? Qwerty number1 (talk) 15:37, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

<dropping in on the conversation> We've done things like that (called "shorts") in the past, but have gradually found it doesn't work well for us. It doesn't teach the right skill set, at the same time it takes nearly as much effort to write properly as a minimal article and the review labor, by the time you add in the logistics of sets of the things, may actually be more than for a bunch of minimal articles. So we discourage shorts nowadays. --Pi zero (talk) 16:20, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hello Qwerty number1 :-) Do the French briefs contain answer to all 5Ws and an H in their first paragraph? Just checking as I think when English Wikinews tried them it was a requirement here Gryllida (talk) 20:19, 20 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have got a first paragraph here (translated this time!)

According to Le Figaro newspaper, Congressman Jean Leal had planned a discreet meeting with about fifteen representatives of the movement this Wednesday afternoon to present a list with yellow waistcoats for the European elections in May.

Hope this helps, Qwerty number1 (talk) 08:34, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Qwerty number1.
  • Who: Congressman Jean Leal
  • What: planned a discreet meeting (what is that?)
  • When: wednesday afternoon
  • Why: to present a list with yellow waistcoats for the European elections in May. (what is this list for?)
  • How: (presumably he made an annoumcement either via social media or in person, this is missing)
  • Where: (missing)
I guess it is pretty hard to write a brief that has the answers to all these questions. English Wikinews requires these answers, they are pretty hard to gather in full, and this is why writing briefs did not work out. Now I am trying to address this by encouraging early feedback from non-reviewers --Gryllida (talk) 09:27, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks!Qwerty number1 (talk) 10:42, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yep, me yet again. This is not another suggestion, but an observation. 1)there are not many reviewers about 2)Gryllida; I like your idea about welcoming articles; A) can I join, despite being quite new to this project? B)Have you got any ideas for making for more widespread on Wikinews? Qwerty number1 (talk) 21:05, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

1) I'm one of the reviewers. I think there is not many about because a lot of them become overwhelmed and this welcome-a-bit activity may help people become more confident with pre-review activities and more likely to succeed as a reviewer.
2) I'm glad you like it, I hope to find instant feedback more effective.
3) You are welcome to sign up at User:Gryllida/welcome a bit and I'll add you to the system. It is very new and may have bugs. Please report all bugs to me via talk page messages or by replying to emails!! If you do wish to give authors feedback, please
  • do this at their personal talk pages where it is easier for them to discover than the article talk page,
  • make your messages easy for them to handle and not overwhelming - they should contain one or two action items to do,
  • don't edit the article content for the first 24 hours after its creation or after their last edit,
  • make it clear that you are willing to help the author if they ask (in this case you can edit the article within the 24 hour period as well and make sure you let them know once you are done editing),
  • daily attacks at reading WN:PILLARS, WN:SG and WN:CG for the first week are recommended.
  • if you're not sure what to tell them or how to respond, ask at #wikinews live connect
or at the water cooler and someone would be glad to assist you :)
Again please let me know if there are any bugs or issues. :) And thanks for offering your help. Gryllida (talk) 23:20, 21 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request

[edit]

Please your remove your "proposal to close this discussion." It's only about the content dispute on the crusader article. It belongs on that article's talk page. In its current location, it is disrupting the guideline proposal thread. I support your right to refrain from participating in the guideline discussion if you don't want to, but not any action that artificially prevents other parties from participating, such as closing the discussion before the community has had a chance to see it. If my proposal is really as meritless as you think, then you do not need to sabotage it. Darkfrog24 (talk) 04:20, 3 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for this request.
Unfortunately I believe that I have seen your described "I consider your proposed changes unnecessary, please review or publish the prior version. I will not seek a workaround, do it yourself, it is a wiki" approach more than once. Do you disagree with that? Gryllida (talk) 04:46, 3 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Task assignment

[edit]

When a reviewer provides feedback, next to each actionable item there should be three buttons which effectively mean

  • "OK"
  • "I will do it"
  • "I would like to do it, but I need help"

When these buttons are pressed the user should be directed to enter a clarifying message (via a prompt). After entering it their comment should be added to the talk page for others to see it, so that they know who is working on this task. --Gryllida (talk) 00:37, 16 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

That sounds doable. Doing it well calls for some thought, of course. :-)  --Pi zero (talk) 00:57, 16 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
I find the Enterprisey's "reply link" script a bit helpful for this: link to it is in my edit summaries. It attaches to signatures, but could be modified to attach itself to any line at a talk page of an article, and to include these three templates.
If this can be done with the dialog tools, even better, then others can easier participate in its modifications. Gryllida (talk) 01:00, 16 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Recent editions

[edit]

I was wondering if you had added the bot flag for the account which notifies users about recent additions? And if there could be a way it could be hidden from RC.
103.254.128.98 (talk) 02:46, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

I've wondered whether to suggest applying for the bot flag. Technically, the bot hasn't even been cleared to run by the community, and according to WN:BOT any admin could block it if they choose. --Pi zero (talk) 03:08, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I noticed that, yes. If it runs silently, I would not have an issue of it running and serving its purpose.
103.254.128.98 (talk) 03:50, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks 103.254.128.98 (Acagastya?) and Pi zero. I would be happy to apply for the bot flag. Is there a link that adds a new section at WN:BOT with the same template as used by previous requests? (As a side note, please note that if the bot is misbehaving, its user page has instructions about how to disable it.) Gryllida (talk) 04:26, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Well, requests go in the last section of page WN:BOT, and there are a couple of examples there of suitable format. I don't see a template for the purpose. (This ought to be a perfect application for dialog; I need to get myself into a schedule where I do a bit of dialog work each day.)

From WN:BOT:

The bot flag will not be granted to any bot that does not have the {{botblock}} template on its userpage.
--Pi zero (talk) 12:11, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Added the botblock template. Added the request at wn:bots. Gryllida (talk) 23:23, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Strictly speaking, of course, we haven't actually required nominees to confirm that accept nomination, when the nominator is a reliable witness who's testifying that they've agreed to stand. It's certainly desirable when possible, though. :-)  --Pi zero (talk) 23:35, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I would like to nominate you for ArbCom, if you’re willing to accept. I think you’ll be great in this role. --Green Giant (talk) 17:50, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Green Giant. I would be glad to accept the nomination. Is it online somewhere? Gryllida (talk) 22:03, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
You can find it here. You’ll need to add a statement saying you’ll accept it just under the nomination. --Green Giant (talk) 22:11, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Real time collaborative editing and Markdown support?

[edit]

I was working on the transcript of an interview and on my machine, I am using Markdown for it. Etherpad on Wikimedia does not seem to be using Markdown extension, and that prevents from anyone else collaborating while preserving the Markdown syntax. Do you know of any solution?

Talk: Bangladesh reports five new deaths due to COVID-19, a daily highest

[edit]

Which headline is perfect for this article? Md Tanbir Islam (talk) 06:07, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

And i don't understand that what is problem with the 1 and last paragraph? Thank you so much Md Tanbir Islam (talk) 06:08, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

First paragraph MUST say the What, Who, Where, Why, When, How of the current event. In this article it says "March 10, two people confirmed with COVID-19 in Bangladesh". This is too old. It is not fresh enough to be considered news.
Instead, write "On March 23, Bangladesh authorities confirmed the second COVID-19 death in the country." or something similar. This is current.
As an illustration, please see this picture from inverted pyramid:
Can you resolve this? Please let me know. Thank you! Gryllida (talk) 06:16, 27 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Are there any age limits for Wikinews?

[edit]

Do you have to be a certain age to edit wikinews? ICameHereForNews (talk) 07:54, 6 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

It is my personal belief that there is no age limit -- as young as children have a means and skills to read and write. Whether or not parent supervision is necessary, and if so then until what age, is different for different people and jurisdictions. Gryllida (talk) 09:40, 6 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@ICameHereForNews, Gryllida: It is worth keeping in mind that Wikinews is not censored. We don't sensationalize, but when explicit violence or sex is pertinent to the news, we'll publish words or pictures accordingly. What that means for a particular young person depends on the person; we had someone here at one time whom I knew to be in their pre-teens, once, but they were quite emotionally mature so it wasn't a problem. --Pi zero (talk) 11:00, 6 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Helo, Bddpaux. Is there some time, or number of votes, after which the request can be closed? Gryllida (talk) 02:55, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Comment Looking at the older discussions at WN:Requests for permissions/Bureaucrat, the general length seems to have been about two weeks.
* Bawolff - 13 days
* BRS - 7 days
* Brian NZ - 9 days
* Chiacomo - 14 days
* Cspurrier - 7 days
* IlyaHaykinson - 4 days
* Pi zero - 18 days
* ShakataGaNai - 9 days
* Skenmy - 8 days
* Tempodivalse - 32 days
* TUFKAAP - 8 days
I think it is fair to say all the bureaucrat votes have either reached 14 days or been long past that line. It would be a good idea to set a time limit for future nominations. Also I think it’s time to close Cspurrier's removal vote. --Green Giant (talk) 01:47, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi, thanks for the check. For Cspurrier - done. Will return online in a short bit to continue. Gryllida (talk) 02:03, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yep....it's been a while now. I think action is due. Historically, the adding of bits has been all over the map in terms of times. We should (soon, with some kind of consensus, of course) look at time limits or minimum times or something of that ilk. I recently closed an RfP that'd bubbled for over a year. Seems a wee bit silly to me.--Bddpaux (talk) 02:37, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
I’ve cobbled together some suggestions on these issues at Wikinews talk:Requests for permissions. --Green Giant (talk) 03:01, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Hello. As a reviewer, this note is just to let you know we are implementing a trial from February 1 to April 30 to encourage more articles to be published per the outcome of a current proposal. The minimum requirements for article length will be one paragraph of at least a hundred words. At the end of the trial the requirements will return to normal (3 paragraphs etc) and there will be an evaluation discussion about the trial. Happy reviewing! Temporary change to freshness

[edit]

Hello. As a reviewer, this note is just to let you know we are implementing a trial from July 4 to October 4 to enable more articles to be reviewed per the outcome of a current proposal. The freshness window is being extended to about five to seven days. At the end of the trial the window will continue to be at 5-7 days while we discuss whether to adopt the change permanently or not. Happy reviewing! [24Cr][talk] 17:36, 4 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi George Ho and Bddpaux
I had sent an email to BRS some time early December after the first message here, via Special:EmailUser, and got no response. Commented on the vote/discussion thing.

Perhaps we could come together and create a WhatsApp Jami or Tox group for all people who have some sort of privileges at Wikinews (doesn't matter which - reviewer, sysop, autoconfirmed etc)? That'd be useful in the case everyone involved actually commits to installing the instant messaging app on all their devices, and enabling notifications.
(I'm not sure how that'd be better than email, or wiki messages. Perhaps wiki messages do not generate a notification to people who do not log in to the site. I log in about once a week for example, as my Firefox is in Private Browsing by default. There was some time when it wasn't, but then I wouldn't go to the wiki site every day, as I had other things to do. But that -- 'it does not show notifications' -- is true about Jami and Tox as well; the only difference being that they have a tray icon and start on startup and auto-login, which the wiki doesn't. Hm.)
Is there a way to have a tray icon for the wiki on desktop, or an {Android, iOS, Maemo, Sailfish} app, that logs into the wiki automatically and shows a counter, and generates a notification, each time there is a new notification in Special:Notifications on any of the sister wikis? Help regarding spam flag

[edit]

Dear Mr/Ms Administrator;

I have been trying to post a message in the Water cooler but it keeps preventing me from doing so as it would flag it as a spam. Please could you help me post the message there?

This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: cs-spam-simple News gen (talk) 11:22, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I know not why your message triggered the abuse filter. I have, however, posted it and replied at Wikinews:Water cooler/assistance#Contact Address of Wikinews as a News Publisher. SVTCobra 14:41, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Replied at the water cooler to you, News gen. What a fascinating idea. Gryllida (talk) 23:12, 4 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@News gen: the automatically blocked edits contained words / phrases used by spammers / spambots on this wiki in the past. This DOES NOT mean you are a spammer; just that you tried to use similar character strings. I won’t list them but characters such as the AT symbol could be part of a spam email address for example. So, to remove BRS's Admin bit, which buttons should I press?--Bddpaux (talk) 22:09, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bddpaux, I see now that you already did it. Apologies for my slow response, and many thanks for closing the deadmin request and actioning it.
For future reference: I would suggest to put link to the deadmin discussion into the summary box when performing the action of removing this user right. Then it may be clearer that the action is backed by the said discussion and consensus, and easier to locate the discussion if needed.
Have a great day. Gryllida (talk) 01:58, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikinews:Writing contest 2023

[edit]

Hello. We've created Wikinews:Writing contest 2023, which will start on February 1 and end on May 1. It is modeled on the successful 2010 and 2013 contests. As a reviewer who has recently been inactive, it would be a great time for you to rejoin. If you are interested in signing up, please do so at Wikinews:Writing contest 2023#Entrants and create a category for the articles you submit. Heavy Water (talk) 04:05, 27 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

New Ibot

[edit]

Hello Gryllida, I saw your mention of Ibot on IRC and decided to try it out. I like the idea, and things were working fine...until the "Copy/paste the headline and URL here" part. I pasted this (headline in one message, URL in the next), but Ibot was unresponsive. A second attempt produced the same results. Heavy Water (talk) 00:24, 5 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

lbot does not count the lines or identify which part is an URL or a title, sorry.
lbot responds only to 'next', so you have to manually say it after each step. Gryllida (talk) 04:52, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Note, I will try to fix this in a future release. How would you like it to be implemented? Would you suggest that lbot continues after two lines have been sent assuming one of them is an URL and another is the headline? Or perhaps write «When done please write "next"» reminder about a minute after the previous prompt? Gryllida (talk) 04:54, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ohh, I see. If the instructions included, say, "Put the URL in one line, then the headline in the next" the bot wouldn't have to actually determine which is a URL, and it (should) be foolproof. The reminder could also be helpful (I forgot). Heavy Water (talk) 05:16, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
"PROMPT: At any time, please write 'next' to continue. Now, write 'next'." I think this is what confused me; "at any time" could mean only "Whenever you're ready, please write next on this step". Heavy Water (talk) 05:23, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'll reword, thanks! Gryllida (talk) 10:34, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

AI generated articles

[edit]

Hi. I wanted to let you know the article you recently reviewed was at least partially AI generated. Given the author's name, it may have been ChatGPT. I do not know how your own iBot project compares or how it works. I do think it is something we will need to discuss in some forum. Cheers, SVTCobra 06:12, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, saw ChatGPT's brain is proprietary and I would be reluctant to use it. My bot doesn't have an AI brain at the moment. Gryllida (talk) 06:45, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bddpaux, at Special:Contributions/Gryllida, click "user rights management" at the top. That should have tick boxes that can be added or removed, and a reason textbox to note in the log. Gryllida (talk) 04:25, 28 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Question about DR and bot

[edit]

Hi!

There is not much action on either Wikinews:Bots#Requests or Wikinews:Deletion_requests#825_sxw-files. Is there any chance you could have a look and decide what to do?

If I'm granted a bot flag it would be nice to know if the sxw-files are to be deleted or not. If they are deleted I will skip them. If they are to be kept I will fix them with my bot.

The background info is now located at Wikinews:Water_cooler/assistance/archives/2023/August.

Thanks a lot --MGA73 (talk) 14:23, 6 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi MGA73 :)
The bot request is marked as successful and the bot has already been granted a bot flag. I'm presuming no further action is required.
What is this SXW thing? Is it another document processing format? Is this format proprietary? Hoping to get more information on this.
Many thanks. Gryllida (talk) 22:18, 25 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
.sxw. Craig Spurrier said at the DR in the early years the Print Ed was written in LibreOffice, and "the open-source tools available for editing PDFs were few and had major limitations. Providing the SXW file was a way to provide an editable source file for it." Heavy Water (talk) 00:01, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Looks like this is not a proprietary format. Perhaps some contributors will find it useful as the print edition is allowed to be edited (please correct me if I'm wrong) while distributing in pdf format effectively makes the content read-only and means it is harder to make a derivative. I would be delighted to have these in docx format maybe these days but see no harm in keeping the old ones around. If this is the case, utilizing the bot to categorize them correctly would be nice. Gryllida (talk) 00:16, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
LibreOffice, for example, currently supports the editing of PDFs. (I should note all of these appear to have been created before LibreOffice was in 2010 — but it's thus obvious Cspurrier meant OpenOffice.) I agree there's no harm done by keeping them. Heavy Water (talk) 01:12, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Gryllida! Yes the bot request need no further action. The SXW are not needed but I fixed most of them so I will not save much time if they are deleted. So if you do not feel comfortable deleting the files you can close the DR as keep. --MGA73 (talk) 13:51, 26 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Requesting a review or admin action

[edit]

Hello, I am new to Wikinews. I see that you're an administrator who has last contributed in December, I've tried to contact more recent participants since last Wednesday but have not had any luck so far. The issue is that I see Wikinews is time-sensitive, and I would really appreciate for my first article to at least be reviewed before it is marked as stale and deleted. It's here and was submitted on Saturday, though I have been trying to line up a review for it since last Wednesday. Can you please review it – or if not, can you please approve Asheiou's RfP here as an admin so that they can have the opportunity to review it? Thank you, --Habst (talk) 16:06, 21 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Gryllida, I wanted to ping you on this as I have since WN:GATWICKed the article with a new anchor here: World Athletics Indoor Championships concludes in Glasgow with new world records and significant wins. Would you be available to help? To be honest with you, I would feel really disappointed if my first article went stale and got deleted due to lack of reviewer activity so I am trying to reach out to as many people as I can, despite the fact that English Wikinews has not published any articles since January 4 of this year. --Habst (talk) 14:36, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Habst,
Sorry for the delay.
Please ping me on IRC in the future, and stay online there for 12 hours after asking. I am more responsive there than at the wiki.
Could you please also advise me what languages do you speak and what are your main regions of interest (region and topics) for news?
Regards, Gryllida (talk) 03:12, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Are you still around @Habst ? Gryllida (talk) 10:37, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Gryllida, I have unfortunately not really had time for newswriting lately, though I am active on enwiki where I write primarily about athletics. Thanks for your offer -- I will keep that in mind when I have the motivation and time to write again. --Habst (talk) 11:56, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Habst I appreciate you getting back to me. I would like to ask you a few questions about how you write articles on the English Wikipedia.
  1. Do you use visual editor or source editor?
  2. Does it have a button to 'save and keep editing'?
  3. Do you usually spend around 20-30 minutes a day writing or do you make little edits which take a shorter time?
  4. In your personal time, do you read news about the 'Athletics' topic or do you only read encyclopedic materials?
  5. How do you collaborate with other contributors? Do you use IRC live chat?
  6. Do you program something related to your activity on English Wikipedia, or install advanced tools (those not enabled by default)? What are they?
Hope you have an opportunity to answer these questions, this may help me with editing. Gryllida (talk) 23:12, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
1. I use source editor, the 2010 toolbar editor.
2. It doesn't have a button to do that specifically AFAIK, but you can preview and keep editing, or you can save to a draft and then click edit again to keep editing.
3. Combination of both. I think long-form / prose writing is healthy but it unfortunately takes more time.
4. I read / listen to a lot of news sites and message boards.
5. I tried to start a Discord / Matrix group but it hasn't really taken off yet. So I mostly communicate on-wiki.
6. Yes to both questions. I use dozens of tools, too many to list. But you can see my scripts at w:User:Habst/common.js and at my user page.
--Habst (talk) 11:58, 29 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
In my scripts on enwiki or global (don't remember which) there is "instantSave", you might find it relevant to point 1 and 2, just (I didn't figure out how to switch to the old editor here on this wiki). I will check out your scripts thanks.
Can I ping you if there is a new draft about athletics here? Only athletics or any sport? Maybe it will be once or twice a year and your help would be very welcomed.
Thanks, Gryllida (talk) 12:09, 29 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi BigKrow
Nice to meet you. What are your favourite topics and regions?
A few points:
  • We had a "main reviewer" on duty usually, or a few,who could review anything. I was not one of them. I don't tolerate US politics or sports. I also usually,for last 10 years, unable to review anything that is not very short. My contribution was mainly elaborating how to improve a draft to make it more likely to pass a review. (Speaking in modern terms from water cooler, I was and am able to function as a pre-reviewer, but not as a full reviewer unless the story is in my focus area. My focus areas include Australia region, and science-and-technology topic.)
  • This year my activity reduced due to my personal circumstances.
  • I reviewed one draft this week and I will try to gradually increase my activity in the next several weeks.
Hope it helps and I am happy to help you further in case you have additional questions or suggestions.
